Happy birthday, America! While today is a fun day for humans, it can be stressful and scary for our pets. Before fireworks start, take your pet for a walk and watch for signs of stress during the day. Keep your doors and windows closed to minimize noise, and consider using a TV or radio to distract your pets from party noise.

Practice safe food handling, keep sparklers and glow sticks away from pets, and keep an eye out for any firework debris that might land in your yard from celebrations. https://news.cvm.ncsu.edu/july-fourth-pet-safety-5-tips-for-owners-to-keep-in-mind/

Last-Minute 4th of July Pet Safety Tips
1. Secure Indoor Environment:
Create a Safe Space: Set up a quiet, comfortable area for your pet indoors where they can feel secure. Ideally, this space is away from doors and windows. Include their favorite toys, bedding, and calming items.

Close Windows and Doors: Ensure all windows and doors are securely closed to prevent escapes.

2. Identification:
Update ID Tags and Microchips: Make sure your pet’s ID tags and microchip information are current in case they get lost.

3. Mask Noises Indoors:
Play Background Noise: Use fans, calming music, white noise machines, or the TV to help drown out the sound of fireworks.

4. Avoid Fireworks Exposure:
Keep Away from Fireworks: Do not bring pets to fireworks displays or let them near fireworks at home.

5. Secure Outdoor Areas:
Check Fences and Gates: Ensure your yard is secure if your pet needs to go outside for a bathroom break. You may even want to bring them out on a leash versus letting them roam freely.

As the 4th of July approaches, it's important for pet owners to be prepared for a safe and enjoyable day. More pets go missing on July 4th than any other day. Now is the time to ensure your pet's tags and microchips are updated in case your pets get loose in the festivities.
