There has been a lot of talk on social media about a mystery dog illness. The pathogen responsible has been identified as a bacterium similar to other upper respiratory diseases such as kennel cough. The next steps for scientists will be working toward finding a cure and developing a vaccine. There are currently no reports of this illness being transferred to humans. Signs are typical of respiratory illnesses such as coughing, sneezing, loss of appetite and a fever. This illness progresses quickly into pneumonia and is not very responsive to antibiotics. Make sure your dog’s vaccinations are current. Avoid public spaces like dog parks, doggy daycare, and grooming establishments where dogs may be exposed to the illness. If you do go to a public space, avoid shared food and water dishes. Here at the clinic, we are still having dogs waiting in vehicles, they are kept separate inside and we continue to disinfect after every patient. If you think your dog may have a respiratory illness please call as soon as signs are noted. Dr Todd and Dr Lori

Just a reminder that our office will close at noon on Tuesday, October 17 and will reopen at 8 am on Monday , October 23. Please pick up medication refills and prescription foods by 11am on Tuesday. We will not be able to authorize medication refills through our on-line pharmacy, Vetsource, until we reopen Monday.
