- When you schedule an appointment, you will be charged a non-refundable deposit which will be deducted from the total bill during your appointment.

🐾 Weekly Adoption Recap 🐾

Last week we helped 29 pets find new loving homes! This included 5 dogs and 24 cats. Nine lost pets were also reunited with their families.

🧑‍⚕️🐾CAMP SPOTLIGHT🐾👩‍⚕️

Do you have a child at home interested in becoming a veterinarian? HSSW's Vet Camp provides an age-appropriate introduction into shelter veterinary medicine. We will be learning about medical exams, animal body language, administering medicine, and spending time with our shelter animals! Plus, they’ll have the unique opportunity to watch a live spay/neuter surgery! A great experience for aspiring vets! 🐶🐱

It's time for our favorite weekly segment - Nice Cat/Naughty Cat of the Week!

😽 This week's Nice Cat is Checker! Checker is the sweetest little guy! When our Cat Care Staff open his enclosure, he does a biiiiiiig stretch and crawls out so gently and politely onto their shoulder. He then sweetly asks for snuggles (which we always give him). He is very demure. Very cutesy. ❤

🙀 This week's Naughty Cat* is Franklin. Franklin has figured out how to get onto the top of the bank of enclosures at Petco. When up there he choses to just stay up there and survey his "kingdom" as if he is Mufasa in the Lion King. After he is done playing his little game, he will give in to the volunteer's coaxing and come down, but only on his terms 🙄

*Naughty Cats are still amazing companions and would love to go home again!

HSSW Pets at Home Update! 🐱🐶🏠❤

Larry was about 4 years old, in 2014, when he found himself at HSSW. A sheriff rescued him and his two brothers Curly and Moe beside a country road. While his brothers were adopted quickly, Larry found himself still waiting for that right home. While they were reluctant to get a new dog, so soon after the passing of their previous dog, Larry’s sweet brown eyes won his new adopters over quickly and they ended up adopting him!

Larry then went on to fill the role as an unofficial ambassador dog for a few events for HSSW when an adoptable dog was not available. With his very laid-back posture and gentle disposition he was perfect for events. He even had his own alumni vest and name tag to designate his role.

While Larry lived an incredible life, his adopters shared the following news:

"It is with great sadness that I acknowledge the loss of our great alumni Beagle, Larry, who crossed over the Rainbow Bridge last week. He personally helped me at a time when I was going through a rough patch of my life. Of all the dogs we have had in our lifetime his presence will be the most memorable. Live free Larry B. You will never be forgotten. Till we meet again!”

We'd like to introduce you all to La Gata ❤

La Gata is available for adoption, but is not at the shelter. She is spending some time in a foster home while she searches for a more permanent home with an equally loving family. La Gata's foster mom recently wrote this about her:

"Today I thought I would share a little about La Gata, my foster that is ready for adoption… this little lady came to me hissing and growling and needing a shelter break, big time! The first 48 hours she growled at me and hissed. She would sit next to me but was gonna smack me if I extended any touch….

So of course, I let her do it her way… each day the growling got less frequent .. I put on the calming diffuser, NPR radio, soft lighting… I would talk to her and read out loud from my book…. I found that she LOVES, Churu lickable treats.

Well, day 14 she surprised me and jumped on my lap and hasn’t gotten down since…(not getting anything done here, but who cares on these frozen days… lol!) The moral of the story is, you never know how it is going to go when you pick up a foster…! Hahaha!

If you or anyone you know is looking to adopt a loveable LAP cat and willing to give her a couple of weeks to decompress in your home, I think her future is very bright… you can see her squishy beauty by the photos…. I have “a million” pictures and videos to share…. Oh ya, her eyes really are royal blue….😊"

Have you ever noticed that some of our pets have cute little shaved tummies? That's likely because they have recently been spayed/neutered! We shave their tummies when we do these procedures to keep everything clean and sterile. This helps the pets to heal nicely after surgery and prevent infections.

Well, to shave our pets, we need clippers! Our current clippers have seen many better days, so we're looking to invest in new ones. But, we need your help to do it! Below are links to the clippers we are looking to purchase.

Meet Rogue! Rogue came to us back in August with a bit of plastic wrapped VERY tightly around her back leg. This plastic caused her leg to become very swollen and painful for her. Ultimately, her leg needed to be amputated. After her surgery, she went to a foster home to heal up. And as you can see from the video - she's doing GREAT! Rogue enjoys the company of her human and feline housemates, but would love a more permanent home to call her own. We just want to take a minute to brag up our animal services team and give them a huge round of applause. 👏 Today 20 (that's right 20) of our shelter dogs got to get out of their kennels and jump into a doggie playgroup. 😍 Not only are playgroups a ton of fun, they also provide essential benefits. Playing can be a dog's most natural form of positive interaction and communication with both humans and other dogs. They are essential in helping decrease stress and promote a better quality of life while here at the shelter. In addition to exercise and social interaction, playgroups provide opportunity for enrichment, assessment, training and behavior modification. We want to send a huge THANK YOU to Dogs Playing for Life for teaching us the importance of these playgroups as well as how to conduct them. Happy dogs = more adoptable dogs! ❤❤

Milo had a doggy day out and enjoyed his time out of the shelter. He loved getting to snuggle up on couches and take naps. Plus, we got to know more about how Milo is in a home environment! 🏡 Here are some things we found out! 🐾 He LOVES getting treats. (his favorite was chicken nuggets) 🐾 He enjoys romping around while playing with toys! 🐾 He's a gentle giant who just wants to have fun. 🐾 Milo is a HUGE lovebug! He just wants to be around his people. 🐾 A gentle giant! Do you think you're the one for Milo?
