Like the Zodiac Sign states: "Friends" is one of Leo's favorite words. Our Leo is no different. Leo genuinely adores people after a quick warm up session. He came in a little shy at first but quickly realized the more people you know; the sweeter life can be. Bella took an inventory of our kitchen today and noticed that we are running very low on dog wet food! She doesn't know how to work the computer, so she asked us to make this post for her and all her dog friends at the shelter. They're wondering if anyone out there in Facebook-land could send them some much-needed wet food??

It may be a little bit chilly outside, but thanks to Blain's Farm & Fleet our pets will stay nice and warm. Today merry elves from Blain's dropped off boxes of fleece blankets for our shelter pets. Diamond may be thankful for the box (if I fits, I sits) ... but we know the rest of the dogs will be thankful for the coziness. So, cozy our development team had to try it out as well. 😁

So what's your role? For this position, volunteers would be responsible for:
✅Playing with the cats
✅Processing adoptions
✅Providing the cats a clean environment
✅Commitment to one shift every week

Last week we helped 38 pets find new loving homes! This included 5 dogs and 33 cats. Nine lost pets were also reunited with their families.

🐶It's time to !🐱

We're thrilled to join BISSELL Pet Foundation and Cathy Bissell for the Holiday Hope Event from Dec. 2-17. Through the support of the Bissell Pet Foundation, we are able to reduce adoption fees during this time period! After you fall in love with your new best friend, you can spin our ‘Wheel of Adoption Fees’ to see what your adoption fee is – adoption fees will range between $0-$25. To see all of our adoptable friends, head over to our Adoptable Pet page at petsgohome.org/adopt. 🐾

This applies to most adult dogs (6 months & up), adult cats, and kittens! Special adoption prices do not apply to off-site adoption centers, like Petco.

Additional fees: City of Janesville licensing, cat carrier (if not provided), leash and collar (if not provided). During Empty the Shelters, adopters are still required to complete a standard adoption application as if it were a normal day.

🌭 We are in need of hot dogs for our dogs! 🌭

Currently, we are caring for 50 dogs in shelter - that means we are going through a lot of hot dogs each day! We use hot dogs to help us to do training activities with our dogs and to put any daily medications they may need inside.

Hot dogs (any brand) may be picked up at your area grocery store and dropped off to HSSW any time during our staffed hours.

Or you can Venmo us at and we'll go out and do some shopping!

It's time for our favorite weekly segment - Nice Cat/Naughty Cat of the Week!

😽 This week's Nice Cat is Louisa! Louisa was such a sweetie when some kids visited her during a field trip! She was rubbing up against their legs, getting all the pets, and snuggling into them when they picked her up! 10/10 GOOD girl! 🥰

🙀 This week's Naughty Cat* is Haunt! Haunt has been the worst roommate this week! No one loves a roommate that eats their food, and Haunt has been doing just that! Once she finished her bowl, she moves onto her roommates food too! 🤦‍♀️

*Naughty Cats are still amazing companions and would love to go home again!

🐾HSSW was recently awarded a $500 grant from the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce!🐾

Thanks to this grant funding, HSSW will be able to assist Beloit residents in need of financial assistance for spay or neuter services for their pet.

We are so excited to be able to continue doing more good and having a greater impact on the pets in our community! Thank you for your support, GBCC!

HSSW Pets at Home Update! 🐱🐶🏠❤

Ricardo came in as a stray back in 2017, and when no one came to reclaim him he began his search for his new family. Well, he didn't need to wait long because he was scooped up by a wonderful family who lovingly renamed him to Oliver.

Today, you can find Oliver living and loving life with his canine sister, Bailey, and feline friend, Fart Muffin! Oliver's adopters say he is "the best snuggle buddy/shoe thief ever." 😄

🎨 Twilight wants to know who will be joining her for our Canvas and Cats paint night coming up next week!? 🎨

Wednesday, December 4th between 5:30pm-7:30pm, Rhettro Design Co will provide paint-by-number kits to create your own work of art while adoptable feline friends offer inspiration and opportunities for therapeutic pets. Participation is $28 and includes a paint-by-number kit, great for all ages and skill levels. $5 from each kit sold will be donated to HSSW! Wish list donations welcome, too!

Meet Rogue! Rogue came to us back in August with a bit of plastic wrapped VERY tightly around her back leg. This plastic caused her leg to become very swollen and painful for her. Ultimately, her leg needed to be amputated. After her surgery, she went to a foster home to heal up. And as you can see from the video - she's doing GREAT! Rogue enjoys the company of her human and feline housemates, but would love a more permanent home to call her own. We just want to take a minute to brag up our animal services team and give them a huge round of applause. 👏 Today 20 (that's right 20) of our shelter dogs got to get out of their kennels and jump into a doggie playgroup. 😍 Not only are playgroups a ton of fun, they also provide essential benefits. Playing can be a dog's most natural form of positive interaction and communication with both humans and other dogs. They are essential in helping decrease stress and promote a better quality of life while here at the shelter. In addition to exercise and social interaction, playgroups provide opportunity for enrichment, assessment, training and behavior modification. We want to send a huge THANK YOU to Dogs Playing for Life for teaching us the importance of these playgroups as well as how to conduct them. Happy dogs = more adoptable dogs! ❤❤

Milo had a doggy day out and enjoyed his time out of the shelter. He loved getting to snuggle up on couches and take naps. Plus, we got to know more about how Milo is in a home environment! 🏡 Here are some things we found out! 🐾 He LOVES getting treats. (his favorite was chicken nuggets) 🐾 He enjoys romping around while playing with toys! 🐾 He's a gentle giant who just wants to have fun. 🐾 Milo is a HUGE lovebug! Donut Dash 2024

Our 2nd Annual Donut Dash at the beautiful Skelly's Farm Market is THIS SATURDAY, August 3rd and will feature a 5k and 1-mile run/walk! All participants will receive access to Skelly's sunflower fields along with a delicious apple cider donut waiting at the finish line. National Ugliest Dog Day celebrates the pups out there with a face only a mother could love. We wonder when it comes to man’s best friend, is there really any dog that can’t be viewed as adorable? We honor the facially challenged ones today, June 20th, on Ugliest Dog Day. What started as a fun contest has grown into an annual celebration of the not-so-handsome dogs amongst us. So, grab your favorite pup and give him an extra snuggle today and as you go about your day, say hi to every pup, pretty and not so pretty. *Here at the shelter, we think all our pets are adorable and still deserve a forever home where they are told how cute they are ... and sometimes, the more "unique" dogs are just that ... THE CUTEST!* ❤🐾

We'd like to introduce you to Percy! Percy is a sweet senior gentleman who loves to be pet, sit in your lap, and is just all around a peaceful little guy. Percy also has Diabetes. This does not slow him down at all! In this video, we show just how easy it is to give Percy his injections. We first draw up the insulin, then we 'tent' his skin where we will be giving his injection, then we give the injection. Then Percy goes back to snacking on his food and rubbing into us for pets. He does require these injections twice daily and as you can see, he's totally cool with it. He even greets at the door each time! Percy's Diabetes is very manageable at this stage of his life and thanks to the Cat-R-Walkin' Home Fund, we are able to help support Percy and his adopters after adoption! This fund will help his adopters to purchase items related to Percy's Diabetes, such as insulin, syringes, and specialty food.
