📣A special dog at Hamilton County Animal Control (386-249-9000), BUDDY is young (estimate one year), healthy, heart worm negative, vaccinated, and neutered). He's an excellent SERVICE DOG candidate for anyone with a psychological or emotional disorder such as PTSD, anxiety, or bipolar disorder. We recommended Buddy to “K9s for Warriors” the facility that takes in and trains rescue dogs as Service Dogs to place with combat veterans. Unfortunately they are full right now and we need to find BUDDY a home before they will have space. An Adopter can adopt outright or do foster-to-adopt to make sure he, the home, and his person are compatible. We will provide FREE IN-HOME DOG TRAINING. He has amazing focus, has a beautiful temperament, craves human attention, and learns everything quickly!
Here’s how his second dog training session went recently. When he was brought out to the yard where I was waiting, he got very excited to see me. Started to jump but caught himself and sat. I let him run off his energy. Remember he spends almost all of his time in a kennel. That’s just how it is when the dogs are in a shelter that is full. Once he got that energy expended, we had a fantastic time; first we played and then I gave him lots of petting and ear scratches as he snuggled his head into my lap.
Someone walked their dog up to the gate to ask a question. Buddy ran over and tried to make friends but the little dog was barking but he did not react to that behavior. Equivalent to a human shrugging shoulders!
In our first session, I taught Buddy not to jump on people and he is very good about that. He does like to lick and mouth human’s hands so I showed him I didn’t want him to do that and he picked up on that right away.
As you can see by the attached “report card,” he learned so many things in just one session. He had previously learned SIT and WATCH (look at me). In this session, I was able to teach him LEAVE IT and I began teaching STAY and COME. He is already walking on a loose leash. When he pulled the leash, I stopped, and he immediately stopped and looked back at me.
In 32 years of dog training, I rarely come across a dog who learns so quickly and is so eager to please.

There is an explosion of online dog training classes. Some of very good, however, "buyer beware" of bad techniques and expensive courses. Susan Garett and Zak George are two excellent trainers with very low prices. Victoria Stillwell and Zak George have excellent free videos on "YouTube" - search by their name & subject. For in-person trainers do a search on www.apdt.com (Assoc. of Professional Dog Trainers). If you cannot find or afford them, check the qualifications of an online trainer. If you see one or more of the following certifications, they are top notch trainers: NADOI, CPDT or CPDT-KA, IACP-CDT or CDTA. If you are not sure of an instructor or organization, please feel free to contact us here or e-mail us at [email protected] We'll be glad to check them out for you.

This starving boy needs your help. We will try to get him into the vet as soon as they can fit him in. If anyone can help with his bill, please call it in to Lake Park Vet at 229-559-3000. We don't know how much his visit will cost but he will need a yearly done at least. He has the sweetest temperament and will be looking for an adopter or rescue asap if not reclaimed!! Jasper FL

Our recent Snake Class for Hamilton Hounds. The pups were quite interested in Sir Snake. 🤦🏻‍♀️. In previous classes, at least one dog would show some hesitation! It appears the humans were more afraid than the dogs! 🤣

Rescued

Holly needs all the help she can get! She needs to find a rescue group to take her in. She's 10 years old and doesn't deserve to be in the shelter. She's the sweetest thing ever and has plenty of life and love left in her! Please message the page if your rescue can take her in and give her a more comfortable place to live out her golden years.
