WHY DO YOU THINK YOUR DOG ATTACKS A OLD, SICK OR INJURED DOG?
With all this rain, my dogs were slip sliding everywhere. Then Rugar ended up hurting his back leg and let out a YELP!! All of a sudden Ella and Callie went after him-growling and barking.... What the heck??? OMG!!! What did I miss?? Has my sweet angels turned aggressive?? And will my dogs still get along??
While it is our nature to want to protect our pet, it still shocks us when a dog seems to show a "killer" instinct. So DON'T PANIC.....
thousands of years ago dogs traveled in packs. And if a pack member became too old, sick or injured it could cause the pack to slow down and also draw unwanted attention to predators. And since part of canine survival was dependent on remaining safe from predators, it seems that instinct or even some sort of physiological change in the vulnerable dog sets off an ancient reaction to protect the pack and get rid of the weakest link..... What do you think?
