I can not say enough good things about this breed that this breed has the natural pointer well suited for hunting in pointing, flushing and retrieving; temperament of a lab; shedding is almost non existent and one of the top 5 healthiest breeds (not well know and back yard breeders haven't enter the market-yet- This will change over the next 5 years because the popularity of the breed is growing. There are two down sides Vizlsa require engagement they are know to be one of the most loyal breeds and lack of engagement tends to adversely effect the relationship with the owner. Even though this is a hunting dog it does not have 2nd undercoat found in labs; retrievers; etc and can not remain in the cold for long .duration.

The Breed originated in Hungary to work as a pointer and retriever, the Vizsla dog breed has an aristocratic bearing. The first written reference to Vizsla dog breed has been recorded in the Illustrated Vienna Chronicle prepared on order of King Lajos the Great (Louis the Great King of Hungary, Croatia, and Poland) by the Carmelite Friars in 1357. Companion dogs of the early warlords and barons, Vizsla blood was preserved pure for centuries by the land-owning aristocracy who guarded them jealously and continued to develop the hunting ability of these "yellow-pointers". Records of letters and writings show the high esteem in which the Vizsla was held. The Vizsla survived the Turkish occupation (1526–1696), the Hungarian Revolution (1848–49), World War I, World War II and the Soviet Period. However, Vizslas faced and survived several near-extinctions in their history, including being overrun by English Pointers and German Shorthair Pointers in the 1800s and again to near-extinction after World War II. During the 1950s a careful search of Hungary and a poll of Hungarian sportsmen revealed only about a dozen Vizslas of the true type still alive in the country. From that minimum stock, the breed rose to prominence once again. *********** The Vizsla was bred to work in field, forest and water. Agile and energetic, this is a versatile dog of power, drive and endurance in the field yet a tractable and affectionate companion in the home. Hi Bo,
We had the privilege of adopting Walter into our home a year ago as a companion to Junie. He has brought so much joy to our lives, and we are so grateful we took a chance on this big lug! He has bulked up, weighing in at 43 pounds. Wally is the best snuggler in the whole entire world, and he is insanely devoted to his family. His favorite things include long walks, playing ball, begging for food, and getting loved on. He demands pets and attention constantly, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! Walter and June Bug are buds, although he outweighs our tiny peanut by ten pounds and can run all over her at times. He still doesn’t care for the pool, but he will hang around while his kids are outside to make sure they are okay!

Our beautiful, petit, active, quirky little princess is doing great. She loves her younger brother, Barley and her kitty, Button. She is ball obsessed and definitely lets us know if we haven’t taken her outside to play in a timely manner. Her favorite snack is a carrot.
She is great traveler, we have taken several motor home trips. She thinks everyone she meets is her best friend.

Of the 4 dogs we’ve had, Lila is by far the spunkiest! She fears nothing so far and is super social - with everyone and everything! Lila appears to be a water puppy! She loves hanging out by or in the pool, using her paw to splash, creating a game for herself! She also likes to play in a raft! Lila is surprisingly independent! She’s wonderfully content playing with a toy by herself for a bit. Lila is obsessed with Kora (Stella littler, 2021) and Kora is finally engaging her in some play! No couch snuggles together yet, but lots of chasing. Lila gets right in there with Kora .. she’s definitely one spicy girl! Lila is impressive on a leash and does better every day with learning commands. We absolutely adore Track and could never imagine our life without him. He has been the best dog for us and our kids. He is extremely cuddly and is pretty sure he is no longer a dog, but definitely a person. He sleeps with his head on the pillow and the comforter pulled up to his neck between my husband and I every night. We are avid marathon runners, so he is a part of our marathon training group. He runs on average 50+ miles a week. As soon as we ask him if he wants to run, he starts racing up and down our stairs and howling. Emergency Notice for HEB Heritage Ranch Dog food -(what I/ Use to recommend for new puppy owners).
IMMEDIATLY STOP USING (if you do use it)
3 out of 6 pups from the last litter have experienced bad diarrhea issues. After switching the issues went away. Leads me to believe there is contamination in the HEB product. (puppy formula only)
We do boarding and use the same brand but the adult version no issues at all and we always have a least a dog or two at the ranch at any given time
FDA can not force (have the power) for recalls on dog food. Only if enough complaints will they recommend that the product be pulled. So its up to you all to have a common voice if you have had isssues with this product

So You're Thinking of owning your 1st Vizsla ...

I am not a vet, but I am definitely well-read and very experienced when it comes to dogs and dog's health and well-being. I have been a breeder of Labradors till 2012 when I discovered the Vizsla. I thought I knew "dogs," and I had also done a ton of specific research (meeting lots of Vizslas, reading about them, asking tons of questions) BUT nothing prepared me for what a Vizsla (the BEST breed in the whole wide world !) I got my 1st Vizsla (Angle in 2012) By 2013 My breeding program for Vizsla was up and running
How would I compare having Labs to having Vizslas ? They are opposites. Absolute, complete opposites. Our Labs were "cottage kids" - laid back, big swimmers, happy to just chill. Our Vizslas are super high energy, must investigate everything, must keep moving, only stop when super tired from TONS of off leash running, hiking, playing. They are always ready to go on another adventure or to play. They are scared of loud noises, and in comparison can be anxious, worried, and high maintenance. Both breeds are super loving and kind. Please be very, very aware of how sensitive Vizslas are. They do not like to be alone, and get upset easily. They need a lot of love and patience. They are massively intelligent and need a huge amount of time and training. They must be both mentally and physically stimulated every day - not just walked on leash or left alone.
---They are ridiculously smart. They can be taught anything, and can understand full sentences and complex commands, BUT they must be taught with respect and kindness. Patience and a calm manner are essential. Please and thank you go a long way with this proud breed. They love to understand what you are asking of them. When you are introducing something new, practice it a lot and praise and praise and praise. They stand taller and smile. They DO feel proud and they DO know that they are loved.
---When they have done something wrong, Vizslas smile and wiggle their adorable bottoms and wag their tails. This is NOT because they don't understand that they have misbehaved. This is their way of saying "Please forgive me" or "I'm sorry." A gentle "No-Stop-bad puppy" is all you need to say. Turn your back and walk away if you need to as well. But please don't do anything else, --DONOT misinterpret their reactions as happiness or indifference. Just like humans, they push boundaries and make mistakes. But they want to please you more than anything in the world.
---Vizslas are also known as "The Velcro Breed." This is COMPLETELY true ! They will want to cuddle you (arms around your neck), kiss you constantly (and very enthusiastically), sit on you, lay with you, follow you everywhere... They really can't stand to be without their humans. They should sleep in the same room with you, and will want to be SQUISHED beside you on the couch.
---They require a MASSIVE amount of mental and physical stimulation and exercise in order to behave, learn, digest and be happy. They are not a "walk around the block" dog. They need freedom to run full speed, off leash (they are the world's third fastest dog), and to make their own choices about where and how they'll play. Teaching a perfect recall is super important.
--You have to be diligent about crate training –don’t allow for entitlement (ie sleeping in your bed)- Crate train them the day they come home. The crate is not a scary place. It's never for timeouts.. Leave music playing calmly as background sound whenever they are alone. Place the crate in a cozy corner, away from hot windows or cold drafts. Take them out for TONS of potty breaks. And tell them you're proud when they go into their crate, but don't make a huge fuss.
The Crate should not be considered a place of punishment –it will then become a scary place-
--Sometimes they panic and get scared-- bouts of anxiety that are very, very challenging to deal with (Thunderstorms/ Fireswors/ Gunshots). This can cause them to jump around, prance, jump up, scratch, etc. -- absolutely not easy to deal with --The calmer you immediately remain, the better they are. Teach the word "Settle" in a quiet, calm voice as soon as you can "I know" and "You're ok." They then settle down again. They like to know that you understand —The safe place crate with background noise (TV-Music-Sound machine) helps reduce it.
-- This breed is beyond sensitive, and requires a LOT of patience. Please never put a prong collar or a shock collar on your Vizsla (or any dog). Please don’t drug them so that they are just submissive and laying around like a Labrador. That is not what these pups are supposed to do. They are supposed to be inquisitive, they’re supposed to run around super fast, they’re supposed to climb and swim and run like the wind. They want to sleep in your bed and squish beside you on the couch. They are beyond intelligent, and are supposed to make their own choices. They should be learning constantly, and require massive amounts of mental and physical stimulation every single day. Vizslas don’t have an off switch. They truly don’t “get old” (just “lumpy bumpy” and their fur gets white - which happens to this breed if they experience extreme sadness or stress (ie loss of a playmate).
Bottom line - Vizslas are INCREDIBLE
Vizsla is definitely not a laid-back life. It’s a life full of adventures, extreme happiness, tons of love, and lots and lots and lots of patience. This is a lifelong commitment that never changes, this breed will never slow down. They will never stop challenging you and asking for hugs and kisses and being in your space and acting like a clown and making your heart swell with the greatest love that you will ever experience.
But they are ABSOLUTELY NOT for everyone.\

Yesterday Sat May 25th was a big day at the Johnson city Ranch-
It was Eli 10yo birthday-- him and his sister were blindfolded on the hour trip to the ranch and had no idea. The grand parents arrived early waiting for them to arrive. The two kids were taken by hand and led up to the front porch where Mom was holding a 7wk old Vizsla puppy.
The expression on Eli face was priceless when he took off the blindfold mouth gaping eyes wide couldn't believe it he was so happy- the whole family stayed for two hours just loving not only on Honey (Eli named her last night)-but the rest of Lunas Litter.
alas she is to young to leave the litter so they will be coming back in over a week to bring HONEY back to her forever home.
What a way to celebrate a child's 10yo bday but with a loving Vizsla puppy that will brings years of love laughter and joy.
This little female from Luna litter (she is the smallest) is 6 weeks old. She is looking for a forever home to go to in less than two weeks.

Hey Bo! Romeo weighed 30 pounds last week . He is quite the joy and brings so much to our lives. He’s for sure a ball of energy and we have a long way ahead of us for training but grateful that he’s my plus one. He has been on a few camping trips now, a ton of hiking trips and he’s about to go to his first national park the end of this month with our family. He goes to the office weekly with me and truly has become a highlight in many people’s day.

Buck is doing great, we haven’t been to official weight check for a while but our home scale says 36. We do all things off leash whenever we can and he is so loyal and obedient. Still chewing whenever he can’t but big boy his teeth are all in now. His favorite loves are the vacuum, airplanes in the sky (he is so focused when they go by), the window down in the car and to try and love on our cats whenever possible. We have a neighbor who has a female vizsla from SCARLETT and they love to play!

Scarlett Litter is 3 weeks old today eyes are open and now walking and finding their voice. Here are 9 of the 10 Vizsla we are boarding over the 4th we are also 2 Boarder Collies and THCV has 5 Viszsla's + 2 Ranch Guardian dogs for our live stock --Its a party here at the ranch with 19 and every one is getting along really well -- We have 3 month old up to 9 years old -- A lot of families love have their dogs boarding with us here at the Ranch
Stella Litter of 9 at 7 weeks old. Just back from a trip to the Vet for a health check up and 1st round of shots--all are very happy our Vet has nothing put praise for how raise our puppies. In just a few days they start to go to thier new homes to be with thier forever family. Everyone is so excited about these puppies
Stella Litter of 9 at 37 days old with Scarlett Litter of 8 at 31 days old in their out side play area all 17 pups enjoying a nice spring April day. These pups start going to their forever homes in about 3 weeks
Scarlett Litter of 8 is now 3 weeks old today.They are learning to use their legs and walking in about another week they will be able to start running in short spurts Starting next weekend during the day they will be outside in their playpen on the covered front porch that will have some things for them to climb to gnaw on and they will start to meet the rest of the Vizsla pack and start socialization beyond the litter. In addition, their teeth will start to come in so mom will not be hanging out as much (because let's be honest, teeth hurt) . I will introduce them to whole milk mixed with raw egg and crumpled eggshell. During the 5th week they will be introduced to kibble.

I had a message between on this page and my Dog Kenneling Business PFB Page sorry for any confusion-It has been fixed Today was the big day 1) they are now outside during the day in their play pen --this will start the solmization with our other dogs as they investigate and sniff each other. 2) I have started the weaning process as of today I am giving them whole milk mixed with raw egg and the crushed egg shell they took right to it--Mom is not hanging out as much with them with their teeth coming in. It tends to get painful after a few minutes. -- in a week I will start introducing them to puppy Kennel by week 6 they will be fully weaned.
