Safe sleep is SO important when you have a dog and a baby. It's so easy to fall into old habits, but it's unsafe to have a loose dog in the same space as parents and a baby who are asleep. It's impossible to adequately watch your dog or baby when you are asleep.
In this photo, the dog is safely contained in a crate in the parent's room for sleep time. This way, the whole family can be together, but everyone will be safe. Note - this dog has been crate trained and is not worried about the noises that baby makes.
Edited to add: crate training is a process and takes time. If it is an absolute no go for your dog (or you), there are options. If your dog is stressed by baby or the crate, then we don’t want the dog to feel trapped. You could also have the dog sleep outside the bedroom where pup can take the space he needs to feel comfortable. The point remains the same - a dog should have NO access to a sleeping baby. Also, this photo does not demonstrate safe sleep for the baby. The bassinet should be 1 foot away from the bed.
