Mama Echo keeping watch of the baby ducks that hatched today 💛

German Shepherds can be taught to do all kinds of amazing things, but what is always astounding, are all the things that don't even have to be taught to a well-bred dog. Their instincts and inherent intelligence and discernment are some of the reasons I am obsessed with this breed. There isn't much that can replace excellent lineage and breeding for health and incredible attributes.

When making a decision as important as adding a companion to your life, good breeding really matters. That's why it's so important to us.

Goodnight, from mama Echo and her new flock of ducklings 🐥 💛

Mama Echo takes her jobs very seriously. She knows that she is to protect our kids. She keeps watch of them and if they venture out into the water, she will gently herd them back in. Wherever the kids go, Echo will follow and keep them safe. We love our amazing girl so much!

🐾Just showing off our gorgeous boy!! 🐾

Charlie Bodnar (we affectionately call him Bodhi) joined our program earlier this year and he has been an amazing addition.

Charlie is extremely loyal and loving, gentle with his handler, very sweet to female dogs and shows them how the alpha of the pack is supposed to behave. He is playful and silly, smart as a whip, and has a wisdom about him that makes him a really fun dog to work with. We love Charlie Bodnar so much and we know he is going to produce some phenomenal puppies!

Aspen Tier Von Allen
Dob: 7/11/21

PennHip: Under 0.4 on both sides
Full Embark Panel: Clear
DM: Clear

Aspen is an extremely sweet and loving girl who is intelligent and intense with her jobs. She loves babies and children and is gentle with the animals she protects on our farm. She has a high prey/ball drive and is always willing to work for toy or food. She is very affectionate, submissive and loyal. She is med/high energy with a sharp mind and a will that doesn't quit. She has a phenomenal off switch and recall. She is the perfect family dog; a tolerant and loving protector.

Charlie Bodnar
Dob: 08/17/21
AKC #: DN69175205
Sire: Iran Tompera
Dam: Axa Spod Mozlova
Pennhip: 0.22 and 0.24
OFA: Hips - good, Elbows - normal
Full Embark Panel - Clear
DM: Clear
Color: Silver sable
Size: 88lb, 26in at withers - stocky build
Slovakian import with Czech lineage, stock coat.

Charlie is an excellent boy with just about all the traits you'd want in a German Shepherd. He is very intelligent and has excelled in nosework, bitework and police academy training. He has an extremely high ball drive and loves his kong, which he takes everywhere he goes. He has a goofy and funny side and is excessively affectionate and sweet to his handler. This boy's biggest flaw is just not knowing he is a huge dog and not lap-sized. Charlie has been a perfect addition to our program!

Great advice!

Great advice!

Awww they want to meet, look at their wagging tails ⚠️
A wagging tail is never a good indicator of your dogs emotional state.
It can simply mean their emotional state has changed, apart from happiness and joy, that can also include changing into a fearful, anxious, angry, confused state. Tail wags are not a good indicator when deciding your dogs (or another dogs) emotions.
I know this is controversial for some to hear but very few dogs are truly dog social....many are highly selective.
They may only like their own breed.
They may only like female dogs....small brown dogs...or curly coated dogs.
They may have their own unique preference.
They have (and are ALLOWED) their own social preference....just as we have our own social preferences.

Or they may just dislike any other dog outside their/your family and friends.

Encouraging dogs to meet a dog walking down the street (even with the best of intentions) can cause some serious issues. If your dog pulls you down the road at the mere glimpse of another dog, your dog is likely in a highly aroused emotional state. Allowing them to meet others in that state is habit forming and rewarding....so they WILL repeat it.
Other dogs can respond badly to over aroused dogs.

Why not just let two dogs meet ?
There can be lifelong consequences to "just letting them meet"
Reactivity and/or aggression.
Anxiety and stress
Injury.
A lessening of the strong bond they may have with you as they can no longer trust your judgement.
Why not take a bit of time and lessen the chance of these serious (and sometimes life altering) issues occur in the first place.

So.... meeting any strange or unknown dogs on a walk, JUST because there is another dog there is something I highly discourage.

However....
There are some circumstances where you may have to introduce dogs. So these are a few tips which have been written about before (separately) in graphics but I have squeezed them together for a clearer reference.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is only concentrating on their own dogs emotional state and not watching the rising stress in the other dog involved....
These cause those "Out of the blue" reactions....

They weren't out of the blue, they were just missed.

🔵Micro meetings are essential.
🔵Parallel walks are a must.
🔵Avoid face to face.
🔵Keep your voices light and happy.
🔵DON'T make a dog sit or lie down.
🔵Tension creates more tension so keep those leads loose.
🔵NEUTRAL territory....not your yard, your house or even your immediate area around your house....go somewhere else.

Biggest tip though (as mentioned) watch the body language of both dogs.....IGNORE the tail wags and watch the whole body and all the little tell tale signs given.

If it doesn't feel right...it likely isn't.
Trust your own intuition.

ALWAYS advocate for your own dog no matter how "friendly" you are told the other dog is.

All of our puppies go home with some items that help to bring them comfort as they transition to their new homes. We have our mama dogs sleep with some special puppy baby blankets for a few weeks before the puppies go to their families. The pheromones that mom emits while sleeping are very calming to the pups and help them to settle right in and transition without anxiety when they leave our care.
Echo is giving the blankets one last snuggle before she sends her pups off! 🐾

Echo's D litter is 7 weeks old! They are fully weaned, and full of play and puppy antics! Their personalities are all shining bright 🌟
These guys have all been matched to their families and are all scheduled to go home next week after their vet exam and temperament tests!! We will miss them but are so excited for them to be able to meet their families after a long wait!
2 puppies from this litter will be transferred to System Of A Dog for their early board and train program! This is a great opportunity for pups to get an excellent foundation before going to their homes. Their families will be very involved in their training throughout the process.
Our next litters are planned for spring 2024!

They are consistently using their litter box, are continuing to be exposed to early stimuli to help build strong nerves and are spending lots of time playing together and sleeping.

D litter is 5 weeks old! They have moved into their "big kid" area and are using their litter box consistently (we use the Misty Method for potty training. You can find more information on that process here - https://www.dogbreedinfo.com/breedingdogs/pottytrainingpuppies3weeks.htm)
They all have teeth, are weaning, are playing and establishing their personalities and their pack order through play. This week's development is essential to their strong nerves and confidence as they learn their place in the world and start to show the dominant attributes of their personalities.
This week they will be exposed to many stimuli, different floor textures, stairs, different sounds, etc., as we continue to work on their early descensitization, which makes them very versatile, balanced adults.
All puppies are raised inside our home, with us every day, where they are constantly exposed to our small children, other animals and dogs, noise and routines, which all help them to integrate well into their new homes.
By next week we will have a great idea of family placements and will be reaching out to everyone with our recommendations.
Their litter exam is scheduled and they will be temperament tested in a few weeks as well!
🐾Litter is fully reserved🐾

"D" litter is 3 weeks old today! Their little personalities are coming out full blast and its so fun to see them decide who they are. This week the puppies are starting to get teeth, so they are chewing on each other and beginning to play with toys! They can walk and romp now and are very active little bugs. We are watching their personalities closely to assess their aptitudes so we can perfectly match them to their families!
We have one male reservation spot available for this litter.
Send us a message if you're interested in applying!
