One of my favorite questions I received about Jenny during her Facebook Live last night was, "If Jenny were a food, which food would she be?"

I said that I thought she would be a restaurant fajita because she comes out sizzling. Sometimes, the presentation is a little much, and you feel like everyone is looking at you. But then, once it’s at your table and it simmers down, you’re glad you ordered it!

Sometimes Jenny will be minding her own business on the couch and I’ll be overcome by what a good girl she is. And then I’ll think of all the times she was probably told she wasn’t a good girl and so I have to go give her lots of hugs and kisses and tell her what a good good girl she is.

A friend came over this weekend and Jenny didn’t have perfectly controlled manners, but she didn’t bark at her and after about 5 minutes of excited jumps and butt wiggles, she redirected her energy to suckling her blanket. That’s huge progress. She’s just regular do***ng now!

Prior to writing this post, I had no idea how toxic these plants are to cats!

🛑 🛑 🛑 IMPORTANT WARNING ABOUT TOXIC LILIES 🛑 🛑 🛑

Adoptable Nova wants you to know that lilies in the "true lily" and "day lily" families are toxic and dangerous, especially for cats. So, Nova advises keeping these plants out of your home if you have pets.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Adminsitration (FDA), the entire lily plant is toxic to pets, including:

🛑 Stem
🛑 Leaves
🛑 Flowers
🛑 Pollen
🛑 Water in a vase

While dogs may get minor tummy upset if they ingest these, for a cat, it can be fatal. If a cat even licks a few pollen grains off their fur while grooming, they can develop fatal kidney failure within days.

Blue Pearl, a nationwide specialty and emergency pet hospital, sees an 85% increase in lily poisoning cases in the Spring. That's likely because these plants are common this time of year, and people often bring them into their homes or receive them as gifts on holidays, like Easter.

If you already have that Easter lily inside, it's not too late to remove it. Keep an eye on your cat and watch out for early signs like decreased activity level, drooling, vomiting, and loss of appetite. If you had a lily in the home and notice any of these, seek veterinary care immediately.

And please share this post to spread the word! One study found that only 27% of people knew that lilies were toxic prior to their cat's exposure. You never know when information could save a life!

Do you ever think how much anxiety you’d have if you were a dog? You’d always be wondering if your humans were gonna stick to the routine today or if your walk would be randomly taken earlier or later or if dinner would be on time or a few minutes late. The best must be when you get in the car and instead of pulling up to the vet, you’re at the woods you love to walk in.

Jenny, reporting for her adoption interview:

What are your greatest strengths?

Well, while a lot of people would think my outspokenness is a weakness, someone recently reminded me that it's a strength. I know how to advocate for myself, and my ability to speak up for myself probably kept me safe while I was lost and alone. I'm still learning when barking is the right choice and when a different form of communication might be better. I hope in this new role in a forever home, an experienced person will mentor me to continue to grow and develop as a great communicator and self-advocate.

What about your weaknesses?

To quote Michael Scott: "I work too hard. I care too much. And sometimes I can be too invested in my job... my weaknesses are actually my strengths." I'll acknowledge that this exuberance, though, can be a bit much for some people. I hope in my new role, I'll have a gentle and confident leader who can continue to show me how to play with less mouthiness and to be careful of those around me when I'm excited. But all in all, my joy is infectious, and I'm eager to bring that into a new space where play, walks, and general goofiness are a cherished part of the culture!

Look, my partner made a portrait of Jenny sleeping! 🐽 🐖 🤣

If you’ve always wanted a lil piggy but not one that keeps growing to an unmanageable size, Jenny is a great compromise. Here are some ways she’s like a pig:

🐽 See exhibit A of sleep position.
🐽 She’s playful.
🐽 She is friendly (once she stops trying to act like a tough girl when she first meets you).
🐽 She is sensitive! Do not speak too harshly or you’ll hurt her feelings.
🐽 She’s super smart. In three months, she’s learned many manners, like using her inside voice, keeping her paws off the counters, waiting her turn, improved leash manners, leave it, waiting to be released for her food, and she already knew sit.
🐽 She prefers the indoor life, spoiled next to you!

Boxers and their thoughtful, worried faces 😝

When you get a bath and all of a sudden start contemplating life. Like, how do squirrels have such tiny legs, but always manage to outrun you? And why do they make bones the perfect size, but mom always breaks them in half? And, why do they make it so easy to get the stuffing out of the stuffies? It’s hardly even any fun anymore. Man, doing this dog life thing is ruff. Yeah, I definitely need more self care days. And more treats. Preferably whole ones…..
