Meet Cher! She is a new arrival at Animal Rescue Project in Kalamazoo, MI and she is very eager to find her forever home and get all the snuggles and love she can get! She does have your typical calico s***k, but is SUPER sweet and will rub against our staff and volunteers when she wants more attention and pets. She is not a fan of cats generally, but in the past has been more okay with younger cats and male cats. She is good with dogs and is GREAT with kids, as she is okay being held and will always tell you politely when she is too overstimulated. Cher is such an amazing kitty who is already spayed and up to date on her vaccinations, so all she needs is a new family to call her own! How have we not found a forever home for Luke and Fluffy yet? These two have been eagerly waiting to find their forever family through Animal Rescue Project and are currently at PetSmart Pet Supplies Plus - Portage, MI on Westnedge for public viewing. They are a bonded pair so they must go to a home together and are very mellow and loving. They both love to beg for attention and take naps in their kitty towers or in warm kitty beds.

Luke is FIV+ but because he is submissive and gets along with other cats, he is able to live with other kitties and live a long and healthy life like they can as well. Fluffy and Luke have been together since Luke was a young kitty and he did not spread FIV over to her because they get along so well and love each other so much!

One of our amazing fosters is sharing some great information on kitten seasons, cats going into heat, and how to start preventing cat overpopulation!

Spaying and neutering one cat can make a HUGE difference in controlling the cat population!

Let’s talk about kitten season because it's soon! 🙀

Cats are seasonal breeders and will go into heat as the days get longer. In Michigan, that's usually January through September. This means that kitten season is roughly March through November.

Female cats can start cycling as young as 4 months old and will cycle multiple times a year, as frequently as every 14-21 days. They can have multiple litters in a year and start cycling again within days of giving birth - the chart below demonstrates how easily cat numbers can multiply!🙀

Spay/Neuter your cats please!!!

Spay/neuter is an effective way to prevent unwanted pregnancies and reduce the number of unwanted animals in shelters. It can also benefit cats' health, by reducing the risk of reproductive tumours, uterine infections, viral infections and injuries occurred by mating or giving birth.

Female cats can safely be spayed during their season or early pregnancy, but since it takes two to tango make sure your male cats are also fixed (male cats may fight more during breeding season to protect their territory).

If you feed community cats, please look into TNR (trap/neuter/release) resources to help control the stray cat population in your area.

Happy Saturday! While our rescue may be closed to the public due to weather, we wanted to still show off some of our amazing kitties that are searching for a forever home through Animal Rescue Project in Kalamazoo, MI! Meet Saint and Nick who came to us almost two months ago and are around 6 months old. They are great with other cats, and warm up to dogs with time and the proper introduction. They would be most comfortable in a home with kids that were 10 and older, just due to the fact that they are a bit shy until they warm up and prefer calm environments. Between the two, Nick is the most confident, and loves to be around his foster family, but Saint takes longer to warm up, and is more independent. Happy Friday! Our rescue is currently closed due to weather, but we are still hoping we can share this picture of our sweet Rosemary and get her adopted this weekend or next week! She is okay with calm cats that respect her personal space, but is not a fan of hyper, young kitties, since she just wants to relax and lay around! Attention!
Due to the unfortunate weather we are expected to have the next few days we have decided to close our office early today, 1/11 and will be closed tomorrow, 1/12 all day.
We do plan on reopening Saturday, 1/13 as long as weather permits. If the roads are still in dangerous driving condition, we will reschedule any and all Saturday appointments to the following week.
We appreciate your understanding and from all of us at ARP, please stay warm and safe this weekend.

Dragon update! This sweet guy came to our rescue when he was barely 8 weeks old in very rough shape, but with the help of our cat lead and his incredible foster family, he has been on the mend for a while and is getting his special hernia surgery soon! After the surgery he can finally go to his forever home since his mom has been patiently waiting 🥰

*Dragon is NOT available for adoption*

Dragon's hernia surgery is scheduled!!! He doesn't let the fact that his insides are trying to escape stop him from being the snuggly, happy kitten that he is, but we're all excited that he gets to live his life without his guts falling out.

This distinguished gentleman is available for adoption through Animal Rescue Project in Kalamazoo, MI and he can't wait to find his forever home! Hercules is around 7-8 years old and is very mellow and easy going so not a lot bothers him. He loves to sit and nap in warm beds and watch the room around him, but he also loves to snuggle and will beg for you to keep petting him when you stop! He would be a perfect lap kitty and he also loves to chirp and talk to you whenever he is in his snuggly moods. He would do fine with other cats and kids that are 5 and older, but is not a big fan of dogs, so he would prefer to go to a home without those. She fits her name perfectly and loves to be held and snuggled by staff members and volunteers, so she would be an amazing lap cat! She is around 2 years old and is NOT good with other cats, but is good with dogs and amazing with children of all ages! Phillip is a sweet orange kitty that is currently in an awesome foster home, but is available for adoption through Animal Rescue Project in Kalamazoo, MI! He is a sweet guy that would be good in a home with kids and people of all types and ages, he just loves attention! He also is good with other cats with some time and with a proper introduction. Our cat program has doubled its adoptions in the past year and a half and we are hoping that we will have an even more successful year in 2024!

🥳AMAZING ADOPTION UPDATE🥳

Sweet Freeman, who was adopted from ARP a few months ago, was found to have diabetes while he was in the care of our rescue prior to adoption. We were told by our vet that with proper care from our cat staff and his future owners (this involved administering insulin doses and checking his gluten daily in addition to a special diet), there may be a chance that his diabetes would go into remission. After months at his new forever home, Freeman is officially diabetes FREE and just spent Christmas with his amazing mom and kitty brother! A clean bill of health is an amazing Xmas present for his family, congrats Freeman! 😻
