Sweet 14-week-old Golden Retriever puppy Percy is on the road to recovery after spending some time in our ICU over the weekend! He was an excellent patient and feels better already thanks to some time in our state-of-the-art oxygen kennel. In this photo he had popped his little head out to say hello to our staff during one of his treatments, and we don’t think he could get any cuter!

How Percy ended up spending the weekend with us is an important story that his caring owners allowed us to share to help keep other pets safe. Percy and his big brother were rough-housing, when Percy’s collar got stuck on his brother’s mouth. Percy panicked when he was suddenly stuck, and while twisting around trying to escape he caused his collar to become even tighter around his neck! Thankfully their owner noticed quickly that something was wrong and freed Percy before he lost consciousness. When his owners rushed him to see our ER team, Percy was struggling to breathe, drooling profusely, and very distressed. Radiographs showed that Percy had fluid in his lungs (non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema) caused by the time he spent struggling to breathe. Pain medications and oxygen support quickly helped Percy breathe more comfortably as his body worked to heal from the experience.

The strangulation hazard of dogs playing while wearing collars is a hidden danger that many pet owners don’t know about, but a story we hear with some frequency in the ER. Thankfully Percy’s story has a happy ending, but if his owners hadn’t been there to intervene it could have been tragic. Please, get your pups microchipped so they have a permanent form of identification, and then take those collars off when they’re playing with or interacting with other dogs!

"This is addressed to those who don't want to rent apartments to people with dogs and also to those who won't rent houses to them:

I can't take my dog to the beach for a walk because it bothers you on your vacation. You also won't let me rent a house if I have a dog, and I can't bring my dog on public transport either.
However, I can take my dog through the rubble to find you after an earthquake, into the forest after you got lost in the mountains without a map or GPS, under the snow because you went off-piste despite the prohibition, into the water because you swam despite the red flag, and anywhere else you might need because, in the end, it's just a dog... but it will find you.

Dedicated to all those who don't love dogs."

How can you resist this face?! JD is one of the five-pack left in a kennel in an empty parking lot, late at night. He has blossomed the fastest and is a full-on cuddler. JD will bark at you at first, but he gets over that quick, and loves to snuggle and hang out in your lap. JD loves people SO much, that he can be a bit possessive of "his" person. He will need to be an only dog, OR go home with a family experienced in these sorts of behaviors. JD is full of love and wants to share his life with a forever family- could that family be yours? DM us or email [email protected] for more info/meet and greet. Full bio and more pics online at www.chitownrescue.org

Giant 16th-Century ‘Colossus’ Sculpture In Florence, Italy Has Entire Rooms Hidden Inside.
This epic colossus, half man, half mountain, was erected in the late 1500s by renowned Italian sculptor Giambologna as a symbol of Italy’s rugged Appenine mountains. This mountain god, fittingly named Appennino, stand 35 feet tall over the ground of the Villa di Pratolino in Tuscany.
The rugged, mountainous statue hides a wonderful secret – his interior hides several rooms with different functions that made this colossus come to life. The monster that his left hand holds spewed water from an underground stream, and it is rumored that space in his head was made for a fireplace which, when lit, would blow smoke out of his nostrils.

PUPdate on Stormy! This adorable two-year-old Poodle mix had a bit of a mishap while at Chi Town. He used those long legs to jump, landed wrong... and broke his leg. Stormy is wearing a temporary cast until the hardware for his surgery comes in stock at our vet's office. He gets around well and is still a happy, playful, and friendly fella! We are open to a foster to adopt situation for this cutie. This would involve taking Stormy to his vet appointments (our vet is located around 43rd Ave. & Northern Rd., Phx), as well as giving him his daily meds. Once he's mended, we would finalize the adoption, with the veterinary costs being our responsibility. Interested in helping Stormy? Send us a DM or email [email protected] for more info!

“I was driving up 75, and saw the trooper in the turnout...checked my speed, oh I'm good.
A few minutes later, I see a dog in the ditch by one of the signs for exit 20. She looked bad.
I was in the left lane, heading to an appointment, and was torn. I decided I would go back southbound and risk a ticket by going to the turnout.
I turned in and the trooper was still there! Yay! He rolled down his window and said "yep! I'm here" to which i told him about the dog and I didn't want a ticket, but if I could help that dog, it was fine by me.
He just asked where the dog was and was on his way! I followed and we found her, still there, panting like she was fixing to die.
That trooper dumped his jug out and fashioned a water bowl for her. Then poured a couple bottles of water. The dog was scared of him, but frozen in weakness.
She sniffed the water, then realized this kindness was for her! She drank that water down in minutes! The trooper went and got her some more, plus a Little Debbie.
She watched him warily the whole time. She sniffed his hand but was still wary.
Next thing, he goes to his vehicle and gets a chair and an umbrella.
He told me he will stay here until she trusts him, so he can get her to a shelter, or take her home.
I believe his being there at the right time, was one of those little messages reminding us of the good in our world.
Meet Trooper Tudors of the TN State Highway Patrol. One of the good guys for sure."
