A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS

For 249 years, Marines have served as our Nation's sentinels of freedom. As we celebrate our Corps' birthday this year, I encourage all Marines to reflect on our legacy forged in blood on battlefields since 1775, and to rededicate ourselves to carrying that legacy untarnished into the future. Collectively, we who wear the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor have an obligation to uphold the ideals of self-discipline, warfighting proficiency, professionalism, and personal conduct that define what it means to be a Marine. I know you are all up to the task.

Twenty years ago this month, Marines fought and won the Second Battle of Fallujah, a brutal, grinding house to house fight, whose victory ultimately paved the way for the stabilization of the Republic of Iraq. Often in Iraq there were no true front lines, and by necessity, Fallujah was a battle in which every Marine fought, demonstrating once again our cornerstone philosophy that Every Marine is a Rifleman.

Our history bears witness to Marines of all stripes picking up their rifles and fighting for Corps and Country when the call came. From Wake Island to the Chosin Reservoir to Khe Sanh to Camp Bastion, every Marine fought. Our future battles will be no different. Our rear areas will be as vulnerable as our front lines and every Marine from our infantry battalions to our aviation squadrons to our headquarters and support elements will have to stand-to when called.

Preparing for the threats of the future requires the same exceptional standards and ironclad discipline that are the hallmarks of our Corps. Twenty years ago in Fallujah, our predecessors staunchly
Core Values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment. Though technology and equipment change, the Marine Corps' culture of excellence must not. The road ahead is far from certain, but our ethos will never change — Every Marine a Rifleman and Everyone Fights.

As I've said before, it is the honor of my lifetime to be a Marine and serve as your Commandant. I'm proud to stand alongside each of you, and I'm excited to see what the future holds for our Corps. When I travel to visit Marines here at home and deployed around the globe, I find absolute confidence that this generation of Marines has what it takes to uphold our Corps' legacy and prevail in any conflict we face. Good morning, Gunny’s Family and Friends

We hope this update finds you and your furry hunting companions well and your fall hunting season safe and successful.

We here at Gunny’s have had an exceptional season so far with nearly 4 weeks afield and many successful hunts. We would love to share a few of our Family members hunts and pups with you over the next few posts. Below is Brulee and her person Dawn. They have been together since 2020 and are melded into a wonderful team. Dawn also is a heck of an artist with her art studio in Girdwood Alaska, her studio hyper link is also below. We are honored to have her as a Family member and look forward to seeing Brulee and her next year on a wonder about in Alaska.

Good morning, Gunny’s Family and Friends

Below are photos and videos from the first day of Sharptail season in Montanna 2024. Gunny’s had a great turn out of family and friends with our group taking up much of a hotel. In all we had 12 four-legged furry family members and 18 two-legged family all together for opening day. We found it was a great Hungarian partridge year with an average of 12 coveys of Huns a day. The Sharptail were a little slow with numbers slightly down from last year. This could have been due to late rains. All in all, though it was a great year with limits of both Sharptail and Hungarian partridge taken each of the 5 hunt days and more importantly we had a safe hunt trip with no major issues due to heat snakes or porcupines. Good Morning, Gunny's Family and Friends

We are fresh off of our Montana, Wyoming sharptail grouse trip. We had a great two weeks afield with a lot of new wonderful memories for the four and two legged family members alike. We seen solid numbers of birds each day with it being a great Hungarian partridge year. We have tons of photos and media of the hunt to share with you all over the next few weeks.

EVI and me are gearing and training up for bird season opener in a few short weeks with the memories of last year's great season and dreams and hopes of a great opening day 2024 to motivate our training. We hope to see you in the field.

Do you all hunt the Cattails for Roosters ? I am 6 foot 4 inches and the Cattails were at my eye level made for a really cool hunt. Special thanks to our frined James and his family for taking us on thier wing shoot and sharing thier home with Evi and me.

Good Morning, Gunny’s Family and Friends

We hope this week’s update finds all of our family members both two legged and four legged well. Many of you as well as all of us here at Gunny’s are anxiously awaiting the brood reports from fish and game from across the country as bird season's opening day fast approaches in many western states. We are busy training ourselves as well as our four legged family back into field shape. Gunny’s will be in western Montana and Wyoming for the openers of Sharp tailed grouse and Hungarian partridge as well as Sage grouse in Wyoming. We look forward to seeing many of you in the field for the opener as we have planned multiple outings with our family members. We are excited to announce a new bloodline for Gunny’s in a new partnership with a kennel in Germany. We proudly present ARGO seen in the photos below. He is currently being trained in Germany and will be traveling to the US this fall. We are excited for the opportunity to learn, train and expand our family to the German roots of this amazing breed called Pudelpointer.

Now is a good time to get your gear ready, tune up some wing shooting skills on some local sporting clays. Here are a few things you may not have thought of that will make your opening day safer and more enjoyable.

1 Break in new hiking boots, inspect your old pair, make sure they are serviceable and still have good lacings, tread if you need new boots, get them sooner rather than later and give plenty of preseason wear on them to ensure comfort in the field.

2 Put together a first aid kit for your furry companion, this should include quick clot tweezers, pliers, splints, tough feet, various gausses, tapes as well as a good eye flush and rattlesnake first aid. I also take a few minutes to find the closest veterinarian offices to where we are going to be shooting/hunting along with emergency 24hr vets and add their numbers to a laminated card to the first aid kit. Always call the numbers to verify they are still in-service and check the vet’s hours.

3 E-collars and Chip. It amazes me every season the amount of hunters who have their pup lost or stolen. A good e-collar with GPS track can help with the lost pup but a chip is about the only help with a stolen puppers. Acquire the GPS collars ahead of time some require a degree in astrophysics to operate well.

4 Prepare for the heat. Groom your pups for hot weather most openers the day time highs are dangerous for you and pups. A good haircut along with a healthy supply of water carried on you during the field time may make the difference between a great memory and a nightmare. Last year’s opener in Montana saw day time highs in the mid to upper 80’s and 90’s consider shortening your hunt to the morning and evening hours and also shorten your planned walks. We conducted half mile pushes, water breaks and short hunts with lots of ice in kennels this led to a very successful and safe opener.

5 What goes for the pups goes for you. Everything stated for our fuzzy companions is double stated for us to train, get in shape, know your limitations, have a plan and communicate where you are when you return.

Good Morning, Gunny’s Family and Friends

We hope you all are well this afternoon. We are pleased to report that Lucy tochter von Grety of Gunny’s, call sign LULU has traveled to her host family the May’s in Minnesota. She enjoyed the hotel stays and weathered the air travel well. She now begins her long training journey of Gun Dog with multiple bird trips, training dates and a NAVHDA NA test scheduled for this fall. Lucy arrived with the May's 3 days ago and already has been introduced to water, swiming ,birds, paddle boarding, as well as pretty dress up already. We are eternally in the May’s debt for hosting and training little LULU. We also look forward to sharing tthe sporting fields with Chris and his family and LULU this fall.

Good Morning, Gunny’s Family and Friends

We hope you all are well this afternoon. We also hope those of our four and two legged family members caught in the summer heat wave across the country are finding ways to escape the heat.

We hear at Gunny’s wanted to apologize for going dark on our post and outreach to our families. We are still here and well. I wanted to thank all those family members that reached out with well wishes for my fast recovery from a knee surgery that took place in late May. I also wanted to thank the local families that came by for physical support running pups, as well as training and feeding chores so that I could focus on recovery and physical therapy. I am happy to report that I am up and back to my stubborn normal self. I still walk with a slight limp luke that 50 cent fella, but each day it's a little less as I train for the fall hunting seasons. My left knee was the only joint that hadn’t needed repairup to this point, every other joint has had repair pins or lashings or been fused together from a life well spent. We are saddened we missed the flag laying tradition for our fallen brothers and sisters grave markers at the national cemetery but will return next year.

We have had a successful whelping from our alpha pair Gretyl and Gunny, with one female pup born May 8th. I am very pleased to announce that we are keeping her as an heir to the mother’s bloodline. Her given name is Lucy tochter von Gretyl of Gunny's. Gretyl has earned a long retirement with us as this was her last litter.

We have a special breeding again Between EVI and Hirsch in October of this year as well as 2 other pairings of our pups.
