Wayside Waifs needs foster families for shelter animals who need a break from shelter life. Shelter life can be stressful for the animals. Sadly, some animals are starting to exhibit signs of extreme shelter stress and need a change of environment to help ease their stress and anxiety.

About 15-21 dogs are housed in Wayside's Canine Behavior Center (CBC). The CBC is dedicated to behavioral rehabilitation for fearful/shy/under socialized dogs and high arousal/high energy dogs who are not quite ready to be available for adoption. To help meet their evolving needs, we have several CBC dogs that need a break from the shelter environment and are seeking a foster family. Could you fill this short-term foster need?

Foster families play an integral role with this unique population of dogs, providing a temporary, loving home to those who may have never experienced life with a family before. On average, dogs are in foster for 2-3 weeks. There are several benefits to fostering dogs in your home. It provides vital information on a dog's response to life in a home setting, which really helps us when finding permanent placement with an adoptive family. Fosters can even help find an adopter for their foster dog, and fostering helps make more room at the CBC for new dogs to begin their own behavioral rehabilitation.

Our next low cost, drive thru vaccination clinic is this Saturday, Nov. 9 at Wayside Waifs! These services are first come, first served, while supplies last. These clinics are for struggling pet parents who need assistance in getting their pets current on vaccinations.

From walking dogs - to socializing cats - to assisting in the veterinary clinic, or helping with administrative work. There is a lot of opportunity at Wayside Waifs. Thanks to the support of our community partners and our donors, Wayside is able to provide struggling pet parents with low cost spay/neuter services, free or low cost vaccinations, and pet food assistance. Wayside's Pet Food Pantry has provided food to 3,869 community pets so far this year. If you are a struggling pet parent who needs food assistance, you can contact us at 816-761-8151 to learn more about the process.

Meet Peep and Jelly Bean. These brothers came to Wayside and need a forever home where they can continue to be together.

As you can see, they love each other so much! They work better together and help each other be confident and feel safe in new environments.

They are looking for a calm and quiet home with cat savvy human.

They do enjoy humans and getting attention, but having each other around gives them the confidence and courage to ask for attention.

Do you have a puppy at home who needs a little help building their confidence? Join our Puppy Socialization on Saturday's!

Each week will offer a different variety of stations specifically with the goal of safely exposing our puppies to new sights, sounds, textures, etc. We will also speak briefly about the use of positive reinforcement training methods and how to help our puppies learn.

This is a drop-in class, Saturday's at 1:30pm, specifically for puppies 8 weeks - 15 weeks old.
