Max is so cute! Those wrinkles!! He came in today to get his last Distemper and Parvo vaccinations. If you have a puppy be sure to have them vaccinated so they are protected against infectious diseases.

If your pets are afraid of fireworks …. we have calming treats, anti-anxiety medications and sedatives that can help. We will be closed July 4th so sure to pick up any medications on Monday or Tuesday. Have a fun and safe Holiday!

Why you should get your pets vaccinated at Kapa’au Veterinary Center instead of getting a discount vaccine from a “shop” in town

I am a licensed veterinarian. I have 8 years of college education and medical school training. I am licensed in the state of Hawaii and I have 30 years of experience. They are an untrained, uneducated and unlicensed individual.
I will give your pet a complete physical exam from nose to tail. If needed I will address any health issues I find. They do not examine your pet.
Vaccines should not be given to sick animals or pets with fevers. I always check your pet’s temperature before giving a vaccine. Do they??
I research and use the most effective vaccines with the lowest side effects. They use the cheapest vaccines.
I get my vaccines direct from the manufacturer and they arrive properly packaged in a cooler. Do you know if their vaccines have been handled properly?
I keep detailed computerized records of your pets vaccinations. They do not keep records.
I can provide you with a vaccine certificate for boarding facilities. Do they?
I send reminder cards through the mail when your pet is due for their next vaccination. They do not send reminders.
My staff will give you a reminder call to alert you that your pet’s vaccinations are due just in case the reminder card gets lost in the mail. They do not do reminder calls.
Sometimes pets have vaccine reactions. Just like people some individuals can have anaphylactic reactions that need immediate treatment. I can treat your pet if they have a reaction. They can not help your pet if they have a vaccine reaction.

My vaccine/exam costs more. If you truly want the best care for your pet isn’t it worth it?

Support your local veterinarian… it’s in your pet’s best interest and yours.

Big sweet Zola came in for her Annual Physical Exam today. She is a Caucasian Shepherd mix.
We recommend that all pets be seen by a veterinarian at least once a year. Senior pets should be seen bi-annually.

If you like helping animals especially dogs and cats this job is for you. Duties include assisting the veterinarian, holding animals, running lab tests, cleaning and stocking. Must be able to lift 40 pounds, standing, walking, bending, and computer skills necessary.

Fireworks are fun for people but many pets are afraid of Fireworks!
Here are some tips to keep your pet safe
1. Confine them indoors if possible
2. Close the windows and play music to help distract from the loud noises
3. Give them a treat or a toy
4. Use a thundershirt or zen jacket
5 . Call your vet. We have noise phobia medications and sedatives to help keep them calm.
