Our 2025 Spay & Neuter Clinic is officially in the works, and we’re doing things a little differently this year! Instead of limiting everything to just one day, we’re spreading the love (and the vet care) across every Monday and Tuesday in August! That’s right, more flexibility, more appointments, and more happy, healthy cats. 🐱 We’ve got 80 cat slots available, and they’re open to owned cats, stray cats, and feral cats.
*We cannot guarantee which Monday or Tuesday in August you will be scheduled so you will need to plan accordingly!*

What’s New This Year:
✅ $45 per cat
✅ FELV/FIV/Heartworm testing is included in the fee for all cats

📅 Registration Details:

🕗 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM
📍 In-person ONLY
📍Valid drivers license required
📍Kearney/Buffalo County residents ONLY

‼️ Registration is required, and slots go FAST! Our last clinic filled in just 15 minutes, so be sure to mark your calendars and set your alarms.

We're hosting a Pet Food Drive to support the animals in our care, and we could use your help! From July 24th–30th, we're collecting much-needed food donations to keep our dogs and cats happy, healthy, and well-fed.

All items can be purchased at our local PetSmart or ordered online and dropped off at the shelter during our open hours July 24th-30th. Every donation, big or small, makes a huge difference to a pet here at KAAS waiting for their forever home!

We will be holding a pet vaccination clinic on Saturday, July 26th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM right here at KAAS! The clinic will take place in our garage located at the back of the building, just follow the signs when you arrive. We’ll be offering all standard dog and cat vaccinations, as well as microchipping services to help keep your pets protected and safe. No registration is required! To keep everyone safe and things running smoothly, we kindly ask that dogs be on a leash and cats arrive in a secure kennel.

🐾 PUPDATE on the Hoarding Case! 🐾

We’re thrilled to share that all of the dogs rescued from the recent hoarding case have found their forever homes… except for TWO! One of those still waiting is our handsome boy Chance, and he’s more than ready to steal someone’s heart! Chance has come such a long way and continues to blossom every day. He’s looking for a patient, loving home where he can continue to thrive. Let’s find him the happy ending he deserves!

It is just another "Meow-nic" Monday! This "Meow-nic" Monday features adoptable Spice! Spice has been on quite the journey lately. She was recently surrendered to KAAS due to no fault of her own, her previous humans fell on hard times and became homeless. Spice is a sweet, affectionate, and absolutely GORGEOUS kitty who loves gentle pets, cozy spots by the window, and being close to her people. She’s not shy about asking for attention, you’ll always know when she’s ready for snuggles! One thing to note: Spice isn’t a fan of other cats. She prefers being the queen of her castle and would do best in a home where she can be the only feline companion! If you're interested in meeting this beautiful girl, please stop into KAAS!

Happy 4th of July from all of us at KAAS! We’re taking today to relax and celebrate, so the shelter will be closed on Friday, July 4th. Our staff and animals are enjoying a little break, but we’ll be back soon! If your pet went missing during the fireworks or you’re looking for a lost animal, please call us at 308-237-7387 and leave a detailed message with your name, a description of your pet, and your contact information. We’ll be checking messages and will get back to you as soon as we can.

Wishing all of our supporters and their furry friends a safe, happy, and pet-friendly holiday! Don’t forget to keep your animals indoors tonight, fireworks can be scary for our furry friends.

Kearney Area Animal Shelter

The Kearney Area Animal Shelter was made possible due to the generous donation of gifts, talents, and time of many individuals. Most importantly, $1,000,000.00 was donated by Scott and Cheryl Morris for the construction of a facility that would be capable fulfilling the mission of the Kearney Area Animal Shelter for generations to come.

After a long and careful planning period, the Kearney Area Animal Shelter broke ground on their new facility on June 10, 2005. The site is located on Highway 30, south of Meadowlark Golf Course and east of the Nebraska Department of Roads facility.

The Kearney Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony was held on February 16, 2006 at 4:30 pm. and pet adoptions began Sunday, February 19, 2006.
