It’s National Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week! 🐾

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible dogs and cats who have been with us a little longer than most. Their adoption fees are WAIVED through Saturday! We don’t believe any of our animals are “less adoptable”, they’re just waiting for the right home. These long term residents may need a quieter environment, a little extra training, or a family without other pets, but they have just as much love (if not more!) to give! Listed below are our long term residents and their requirements!

Bella - 844 Days - No other animals or kids
Palisade - 464 Days- No other animals and no kids under the age of 5
Egypt - 410 Days - No other animals and no kids under the age of 10
Germ - 390 Days
Fanta - 301 Days - No other animals and no kids
Adonnis - 237 Days - No other animals and no kids under the age of 10
Denali - 236 Days - No cats
Liberty - 210 Days - FIV +

We cannot thank WHITNEY at Puppy Junction enough for being an absolute LIFESAVER and squeezing our boy Groot in for an emergency grooming session! This poor guy was SO matted, it took over FOUR HOURS to carefully get him shaved down and cleaned up, but Whitney handled it with such patience, care, and love! Groot is feeling a million times better now, strutting around like the handsome prince he is. We can tell he’s more comfortable, happy, and definitely knows he’s lookin’ good! Seriously, we couldn't have done this without you, Whitney. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for going above and beyond. You’re a rockstar and we are so lucky to have you in our corner!

Too Cute Tuesday! Meet Karl!

Hi, I’m Karl! I’m a 3 year old cattle dog mix, weighing in at a perfect 27 pounds, just the right size for snuggling, in case you were wondering! People say I’m a little shy at first, and that’s true. I like to take my time when meeting new humans or exploring new places. But once I feel comfortable, my silly, sweet side starts to shine. I’ve been told I’m a total bundle of cuteness and I won’t argue with that!
I’m a smart little guy with a loyal heart. Like most cattle dogs, I enjoy having a purpose and love when I get to learn new things or go on little adventures. I’m not the kind of dog who craves the spotlight, I’d rather be hanging out with my person, soaking up the love and giving it right back. If you’re patient, kind, and looking for a low key buddy with a lot of love to give, I think we’d make a great team! Stop into KAAS to meet me!

It is just another "Meow-nic" Monday! This "Meow-nic" Monday features adoptable Gypsy. Meet Gypsy! She was abandoned at a local vet clinic... left behind, confused, and unsure of who she could trust. But even through all of that, she never gave up hope that her forever family was out there! Gypsy may come across as a little shy at first, she likes to take her time to feel safe and settled. But once she knows she can trust you, something really special happens, she blossoms. She leans in for gentle pets, offers soft purrs, and shows just how loving and loyal she can be. She’s not the loudest or flashiest cat in the room, but she’s the kind of friend who will quietly curl up next to you and remind you what peaceful companionship feels like. Gypsy does well in calm environments and would thrive with someone who understands that patience is just another word for love. If you're interested in meeting Gypsy, please stop by KAAS!

Meet Griffin!

Hi I’m Griffin, and I’m just a little pup with a big heart and even bigger dreams… mostly of belly rubs, tasty treats, and a forever family to love me endlessly. Everything is brand new to me, and I greet it all with wide eyes, floppy paws, and a tail that never stops wagging. I love to explore, play with toys, and follow my humans around like their loyal (and slightly clumsy) shadow. I’m curious, cuddly, and oh so sweet, the kind of puppy who will fall asleep mid play and then wake up ready for round two. Of course, I’m still learning the ropes of being a good doggo. Potty training, leash manners, basic commands, I’m working on it all, one treat at a time! I’ll need a patient and loving family who’s ready to guide me as I grow up into the very best boy I can be. September 14th – 20th is Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week and here at KAAS that is all about giving a little extra love to those pets who’ve been waiting the longest for their forever homes. At KAAS, we don’t believe any animal is “less” adoptable, they’re simply looking for the right home, not just any home. To help our long term residents find their perfect match, we will be waiving all adoption fees for them during this special week. Whether they need a quieter home, experienced adopters, or just a little extra patience, each one has so much love to give. If you’ve been considering adoption, now’s the perfect time to meet a companion who’s been waiting just for you!

Too Cute Tuesday! Meet Sarge!

Hi, I'm Sarge, and yes, I really am the goodest boy! They call me Sarge, but don’t let the name fool you, I’m more of a snuggler than a soldier. At 6 years old, I’ve mastered the art of being the perfect companion. I’m gentle, calm, loving, and known for one very special talent, I’m a professional head tilter. Yep. Ask me a question, say my name in a silly voice, or just look at me with love, I’ll tilt my head like I’m trying to understand every word. People say it melts hearts. I just like making people smile. Kearney Area Animal Shelter

The Kearney Area Animal Shelter was made possible due to the generous donation of gifts, talents, and time of many individuals. Most importantly, $1,000,000.00 was donated by Scott and Cheryl Morris for the construction of a facility that would be capable fulfilling the mission of the Kearney Area Animal Shelter for generations to come.

After a long and careful planning period, the Kearney Area Animal Shelter broke ground on their new facility on June 10, 2005. The site is located on Highway 30, south of Meadowlark Golf Course and east of the Nebraska Department of Roads facility.

The Kearney Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony was held on February 16, 2006 at 4:30 pm. and pet adoptions began Sunday, February 19, 2006.
