Unless you pet has a cellphone, we suggest a microchip
From the first time we were able to find a lost dogs owners we were hooked. It resonated with us, what would we do, or want other to do if one of our pups went missing? The answer was simple..EVERYTHING.
The more we worked with local lost and found groups, the more we learned and became involved. That led us to becoming “Scanners” folks from our group that have or are provided a microchip scanner who go out and scan found animals, sometimes even deceased ones in the hope we can locate an owner and give them the opportunity to say good by.
And it grew from there, we were asked if we wanted to start doing chip implants for the group....we said yes of course, trained and certified we added “chipping” to what we do almost daily for the lost and found pet rescues.
And it grew from there, a second scanner was purchased so both Kaye and I would always have one available.
And it grew from there, after a few times of being out of microchips provided by the group we were working through, we decided to take some money we had saved, just over $500 and buy microchips.
And it grew from there, we started chipping for more groups city and county animal shelter events, pet owners who found us on face book, nextdoor app, or friends and family.
And it grew from there , we decided this “thing” we do needed a name......We Chip Pets was born, we have added a top of the line scanner with the help of others, and just recently another more powerful scanner for Kaye. We added microchip outdated contact info research to our growing list of free, volunteer services. All to often a pet is lost and found, scanned for a chip and there is one, but the owners never registered it, or updated the contact info. It sometimes takes days of hunting but most times we can find the pets owner, through paid search services we use, social media, LinkedIn, tax records and more.
Where will it grow from here? Only time will tell...if we win the lottery next month a lost and found rescue facility staffed by veterans, some live in, some not will be built. We will add a drone with day and night cameras, thermal cameras to the tool bag to help search for a lost pet. We will find the best trainer we can (actually we have a GREAT trainer here in central Texas, Louise Bryte BryteRidge Dog Training to help us train a dog, to seek and find other dogs. The vision is there, if only the winning lottery number would cooperate...
