Join us in celebrating the retirement of K-9 Bas, a Belgian Malinois who has been a part of the City of Kenner's K9 Divison since 2017. Trained in narcotics detection, criminal apprehension, and tracking, he always enjoyed heading to work daily alongside his partner, Lieutenant Tusa. Our hospital has cared for K-9 Bas since 2016, and we are honored to have been part of his journey. As Bas steps into his well-deserved retirement, we look back with gratitude for his service and look forward to seeing him enjoy his days of leisure. Thank you, K-9 Bas! Enjoy your retirement!

Our patient is Suzy. 💗We thought she looked adorable in her pink surgery recovery suit. Because of her recent surgery, she needed this suit to prevent her from licking or biting her surgical area. We often recommend the use of a recovery suit or an Elizabethan collar (usually referred to as an "E-collar" or "cone"). This helps protect the stitches or staples from being disturbed and possibly risking infection. Our top priority is ensuring your fur baby is comfortable and protected during their recovery.

Socialization helps dogs learn how to interact with other dogs, people, and new environments, making them happier and more well-adjusted pets. Arrange regular playdates with other friendly dogs to help build their social skills. Remember, a well-socialized dog is a happy dog. Before socializing, ensure your pet is fully vaccinated to protect them from contagious diseases.

It’s hurricane season. We all know how important it is to plan for the safety of our families, and that includes being ready to take our pets with us when we evacuate. If it’s not safe enough for you to stay home, it’s not safe for your pet. Keep in mind our hospital may need to close with little notice or have limited hours for the safety of our staff due to weather. Our patient is Lady. She is a beautiful Great Dane who spent several days in our care, battling an illness that required intensive treatment and lots of love. We're thrilled to see our commitment to supporting our Kenner K9 Units with essential equipment and health care continue to grow. Special recognition goes to Officer Stroyewski, who has just completed the Canine First Aid training with Dr. Trumble, ensuring she is well-prepared to care for Canine Capone in emergencies.
A big thank you to our partners at Anna 4 Paws, who partner with local vets to provide canine teams across the United States with emergency supplies and an emergency veterinarian-taught training class so the handlers can stabilize their canine partners in the field before transferring them to get emergency medical care.

Winnie and Ernest came in for their first wellness check-up. We're happy to report that both pups are in excellent health! Our team ensured they received their vaccinations and a thorough health examination. They were incredibly brave and rewarded with many treats and belly rubs. They made a lasting impression on us here, and we look forward to watching them grow.

🐾 Reunited and It Feels So Good! 🐾 Something magical happened at our vet's office! Two adorable puppies from the same litter were unexpectedly reunited during their appointments. 🐶🐶 Meet Luca and Buster B, siblings who found their forever homes just a few weeks ago. By sheer coincidence, their new families scheduled vet visits at the same time.

Randi was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. 😞This morning, we started oxygen therapy to increase the amount of oxygen in her blood, which helps her organs function properly and reduces her symptoms. Randi was apprehensive about the treatment till our Delgado student, Che, who is doing her summer externship at our hospital, sat with her. Randi must have sensed Che's love for pets.

Our patient, Sonic, was here for eye redness and discharge. During his exam, Sonic was a bit anxious, so Dr. Nix and our technician held him and sang to him to help keep him calm and comfortable. We discovered he liked it, so we made notes in his chart to hold him and sing to him on future visits.

What Are Hotspots? They are localized skin inflammation and irritation areas characterized by redness, moisture, and hair loss. They are most commonly found in areas where moisture accumulates, such as the neck, base of the ear, hips, and limbs. Hot and humid environments can also make pets more likely to develop hot spots due to trapped heat or humidity at the skin surface where the bacteria reside. This is a common skin issue for pets in our area because of our summer heat. If you notice any signs of hotspots or skin irritation in your pet, schedule an appointment for appropriate diagnosis and treatment. Stay informed, stay proactive, and keep your pet's skin healthy and happy! 🐾

In Memory of Teddy, a beloved boy, fostered as a "hospice foster" in April 2019 and expected to only live a few weeks. Teddy ( whom his mom said could win an ugly dog contest) had the world's biggest heart. He left this earth last week, leaving behind grieving family and friends. Consider adding a senior pet to your home. You may find your "heart" dog or cat.

This cutie is Maple, a miniature Labradoodle. We captured her adorableness while she was here for her spay day. Spaying significantly reduces the risk of various health issues in female pets, including uterine infections and certain types of cancers, so they can have a longer, healthier life with their families.

Moka was here for her first yearly check-up. We hadn't seen Moka since she was a puppy, and she was still the sweetest during her visit, but Dad's shirt was the best. Her dad obviously loves her!

Hot summer days with your pet can be a lot of fun, but our four-legged friends can be put in some pretty unpleasant and even dangerous situations if we’re not careful. Here are some things to keep in mind:

Nail trims or pedicures are an essential part of dog grooming. It is best to start training your new puppy to be comfortable with getting them done. Jade, a 15 weeks old labrador, is enjoying her pedicure. As a Fear Free Hospital, we use lots of treats and praise to help the procedure be stress-free for our puppies. Our team nailed with her!
