Brass Tacks Horsemanship, LLC Hello, my name is Ginger Salzman. I focus on building a strong foundation for the horse and rider When we work with horses this is so vital.

Have you ever heard the phrase "get down to the brass tacks?" It means to de-clutter the situation so you can focus on what matters. It is how a great foundation is built with the rider and the horse. Although I offer lessons for the mid to low level show goer, I specialize in helping beginner equine enthusiasts learn about these beautiful animals. My lesson students are like a club and often ge

t together for a trail ride on the property or hang out at pony night at the barn. All students have the opportunity to show off their skills at shows selected for their level and interest. I do c**t starting and offer training for the pleasure horse, trail horse, or speed eventer. Have your own horse and want to train it yourself? I'm here to help with that too. You can haul in or I come to you. I am happy to assist you in becoming a better horseman. I am always looking to improve myself. I continue to take lessons with other horseman in variety of disciplines. I am currently working with professional NRHA trainer to further my abilities in the reining discipline and will be working toward my WHC judging certification this spring. Come along with me and we'll keep learning together.

This is so so true

Thought for the day:
I still get asked regularly if I can take a young or green horse to further it’s training.
Often as not the request includes a story about how everything was going ok but then one day outside pressures caused it to act up.
The request is generally to enhance it’s knowledge or change their mindset so that they can handle all types of scenarios and be calmer and better behaved.
Often these requests are never attached to an aside like “can you teach me how I should handle and ride a green or inexperienced horse?”.
The onus is all on the horse to be able to carry (no pun intended) the rider through any situation that may arise and keep them safe.
That is too much responsibility for a young or green horse.
Your horse needs some support and help while it gains experience.
Regardless of your knowledge of horses or riding or a particular discipline you may find a green horse a challenge if you are inexperienced with them.
Many older horses can be much more forgiving of mistakes and have more experience of the world.
It takes more than a stint at a trainers to make an experienced horse.
Often there is a way through but it takes the help of people with the experience. Hands on help.
It also takes a little fortitude and the ability to not make your horse feel trapped with your hands or legs no matter what occurs.
Most of what is called acting up would not have occurred at all if the rider had acted the way the horse needed them to.
The first thing that it takes is the recognition that to ride young or green horses you may need to have yourself trained.

This weekend was all about learning and growing. Not the results we were looking for but without challenges, how can we learn to overcome them. Morah, you kept on smiling and loving the game even when you were at your lowest 😉 Addy, you kept your head straight and I'm amazed by how mature you are for your age and the encouragement you give everyone. Thank you ladies. And Elena of course rocked the 2'9 division giving everyone a spectacular show. You can hit me up anytime for a ride to the show. 😃

Rosie and Hazel were brave this morning and opted for ba****ck trail ride.
