Please keep the Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue in your thoughts and prayers. If you are able to help them financially and through foster, we would also encourage you to do so. While we pray none of our puppies are surrendered, these specialized rescues are SO important for our gentle giants who need their help 💔

Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue is saddened to announce that our Intake for Great Danes will be temporarily frozen starting tomorrow, August 15, 2023. This decision has not been made lightly and we hope that it can be changed in the very near future.

Our Rescue needs three resources to survive these tough times:
• Funds to afford medical care and training. The current average cost per Great Dane in Rescue is approaching nearly $3000 per dog (on average)!
• Foster Homes for all the Great Danes needing our help - maybe you know of someone that wants to help?
• Adoptive Homes willing to see the perfection and beauty in our imperfect fosters

We will ABSOLUTELY answer your calls, give you other resources to try AND we will be keeping a waiting list of Great Danes in need. We will be re-evaluating our situation weekly until we can re-open Intake once again. With your support we believe that we can survive these tough times.

Saturday is a BIG DAY for one of our past puppies! Tamara and Milo’s son, Gideon will be on ESPN for the AKC Fastest Dogs USA 2023!! Super excited for Gideon and his human momma, Julie!! They are rockstars!! 🎉

We picked up “Sis” from her weeklong vacation with some of our favorite friends and puppy families! She has been doing amazing in the crate and with potty training. She absolutely loves kids and we would love her forever home to have kids that she gets to see frequently, if not daily! 🥰

Cracked Window Myth

K-9 Rico is sad when he hears our Community Service Officers or Patrol Officers responding to a call with a dog in a hot parked vehicle. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, cracking the window isn't enough to keep the temperature of your car at a safe level. If your dog is distressed and at risk of severe injury or death, that cracked window will be shattered if that's what we need to do to save your pet's life.

It's going to be in the 90s this week. Don't leave your pet in your vehicle, window cracked or not. Leaving your buddy at home is safer, and we all love coming home to a wagging tail! If you must take your pet with you, use grocery pick-up or do it during the evening hours when it's dark.

You also need to think about your buddy's paws when taking them for a walk when the sun is blazing. Asphalt temperatures can be more than 50 degrees warmer than the air temperature. Four Paws International has a simple test you can do to make sure the ground is safe for your four-legged friend. Touch the back of your hand to the ground for seven seconds. If you can't hold it there for seven seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws.
