Starting off the New Year on the right foot! We had the perfect opportunity to get Sizzle some training and she rocked it! This little pup is going turn into quite the tracking dog!

Happy Thanksgiving from the Red Dog Recovery crew! We have so much to be thankful for. We have taken more tracks and have recovered more deer than ever. Kylie has also surpassed 50 career recoveries a few weeks ago. And finally everyone has managed to stay healthy this year! Calls are slowing down, but we will be back at it tonight!

The rut is starting to show it’s effect on tracking dogs and we are seeing bucks live longer from hits that would have killed them much sooner just a month ago. Bucks are full of testosterone and hormone levels are at their max right now. This means extended wait times and the chances of jumping deer and finding deer alive increase.

Nate had shot this buck during his evening hunt. He knew the hit was back so he backed out for the night. The next morning he tracked to an empty bed and soon ran out of blood. We arrived about 20 hours after the shot.

Diesel was less accurate as he usually is outside of the rut. This is completely normal for most tracking dogs. The woods are loaded with intense deer odor, rutting bucks are everywhere and many fatally hit deer seem to refuse to acknowledge they’ve even been hit. This all can lead to more work to recover a dead deer.

After 2 restarts, Diesel tracked to this buck still alive at 20 hours from a stomach entry / exit hit. Outside of the rut, we find this deer dead the vast majority of the time.

Hunters - please do your part to help us recover your deer. Please back out after a questionable shot and do not rush in and push a deer that’s still alive. Please call and let’s talk about what might be the best option.

We put some good ones on the tailgate today!

First track was a bloodless leg hit that we were able to locate and back out with Kylie. The hunter could then put finishing shot on a beautiful 13 point buck. This is our first leg hit that we were able to recover without property issues.

Second track was a stomach hit that the coyotes got to first.

I would like to thank both hunters for calling first before they pursued these deer. It made our jobs much easier!

We have a birthday girl here at Red Dog! Sizzle has now turned one and continues impress! Can’t wait to see what the future brings with this little girl at the end of the lead!

Huge thank you to Peak PEMF Performance for allowing us to rent out their new machine. The season has been a bit hard on us this year. Between Kylie’s eye injury and our normal bumps and bruises, Emily and her therapy has increased our recovery time so we can get back out there and recover your deer.

Great way to start our Sunday! Congratulations on a hell of a buck Matt! This guy showed just how tough these deer are during rut. It was a lung/liver/stomach shot that was left overnight and waited to track until we arrived. This deer went around 900 yards doing circles on his scrape line and checking bedding areas before we found where he doubled back on the opposite side of the river and expired trying to climb a ridge. Good job Kylie!

Got on a couple good tracks tonight! First was a 24 hr old quarter to shot where the whole arrow stayed in the deer. This buck was proof that deer will climb up tall steep ridges. No blood past the hunters last blood. These guys did everything right. From knowing the shot placement and waiting to backing out and calling us in to a nice clean track. Great job guys!
Second was a good buddy calling for some practice for Pip! The shot was good but the arrow hit the far side shoulder eliminating pass through. Very little blood would have made this track a bit tricky but Pip led us just under 200 yards right to the expired doe without hesitation.
