This weekend, we completed our first track of the year. Although it didn’t result in a successful recovery for the hunter, we were able to provide some closure. The deer had been down for approximately 16 hours before we could begin tracking. Given the warm weather and the location of the shot, which hit the frontal brisket, we did our best under the circumstances. We tracked for about a mile, and in the final few hundred yards, we encountered fresh blood, which led me to conclude that the deer is still alive and moving well. While the outcome wasn’t what we hoped for, there is some comfort in the closure, and we remain optimistic that the hunter will have another opportunity as the season progresses.
