Hey everyone! The office phone lines have been down since yesterday. While we can receive voicemails, texts are unable to go to and from. Please contact Dr. Hood's cellphone for appointments and such in the meantime. Non urgent calls will be returned, and texting will be the easiest way for us to handle everything for the time being.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Unfortunately, we are having phone issues this morning! If you have an emergency, as always, if you're a client in good standing please call our emergency line.
It looks like the best way to contact the office during this outage is via email - I'll get back to you as soon as I can!

Thanks for your patience!

Friendly reminder that we will be closed for emergencies and regular appointments today through Wednesday, February 21st.

If you have an emergency, Dr. Hood has arranged for both Judson Road Animal Clinic (903.663.1111) and Red River Equine Hospital (318.965.4060) to be on call for any emergency needs you may have while she's out. Alternatively, Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (979.845.3541) is also always open for emergencies.

We have taken away Dr. Hood's phone to let her recover so you will likely not get a response from her in the next few days haha.

The office will be open and available to schedule you for the future regular hours! Text us at 409.254.3616 for the fastest response times.

01/29/2024

Darby will be out of the office today due to sickness. If you need anything urgently, please text Dr Hood. Otherwise, Darby will get back with you ASAP (hopefully tomorrow 🤞🏻)

Thank you for your patience!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year fam!!

We are so grateful for all of your support through 2023 and are so blessed to have some of the best clients and wonderful patients on the planet.

We will be closed next week to celebrate Christmas and New Years with our families.

A couple reminders while we're out:
1. Emergencies are for current clients in good standing. If you have an emergency, call Dr. Hood.
2. If you'd like to schedule an appointment for when we're back, the easiest way to do that is online. We'll go through these first when we're back to get you all scheduled. https://www.hoodequine.vet/appt
3. We are not currently accepting new clients. But if you'd like to join the waitlist, you can do so online: https://www.hoodequine.vet/newclientapp
4. If you need something from the online pharmacy, feel free to order it and we'll approve it when we get back! https://hoodequinevetservices.securevetsource.com

Any other questions / concerns, just shoot us a text to the office at 409.254.3616 and we'll get back to you in order as soon as we can on Tuesday, January 2nd.

Merry Christmas, y'all!!

We have a NEW PHARMACY!

https://hoodequinevetservices.securevetsource.com

I know some of you that were set up on auto ship got an email from the old pharmacy yesterday saying your orders were canceled.

While we realize a change in pharmacies will affect you, after the initial moving over it should only be positive changes! Here are the main reasons we switched:
- Coupon codes apply to whole orders, not just auto ship orders
- We can check out for you with coupon codes with your card on file, so there's no us billing you separately, we can just set it all up for you if you need help
- Meds are getting shipped out same or next day (versus 7-10 days later with the old pharmacy)

Feel free to text the office with what meds you need and for which horses and we'll double check everything and get those orders put through for you ASAP! OR, you can use the link and this code and get everything you need :)

https://hoodequinevetservices.securevetsource.com

COUPON CODE: 17NESTLE for 17% off your entire order! Including one time purchases and non prescription items!

Our office will be closed this week in celebration of Thanksgiving.

All communications will be returned on Monday, November 27th. If Darby already knows about a health cert you need to travel this weekend, feel free to text her to remind her, but we got you 🙂.

Dr. Hood will be seeing emergencies for current clients in good standing, so if you do have an emergency this week, use your normal process for that. If you're looking for an appointment, please fill out an online appointment request and we'll get you scheduled in the order they're received. Dr. Hood will not be making appointments for you just because the office is closed 😜.

I have a couple I know I’m going to ask her - but what do you want to know about Dr Hood?!

Drop your questions below and I’ll try to get them all answered for you! Do you want to know her favorite breed of horse to work on or her least favorite horse color to ultrasound?! Something serious, something silly?

Ps she totally doesn’t know about this so if this post is deleted… you know what happened 😂😂

Time for a Case Spotlight!!

Jackpot presented on June 30th with a large corneal ulcer. If you've been around horses long enough, you know that corneal ulcers this large and this deep can typically take weeks to months of hospitalization and a subpalpebral lavage dosing medications every few hours to heal. Ulcers this severe can often lead to a large scar in that area as it heals, causing future vision impairments.

Lucky for Jackpot, his owner Lyn at Greensleeves Gypsy Horses was willing to do some stem cell therapy for him! At the first visit, Dr. Hood implanted part of a stem cell graft from AniCell Biotech, LLC and sutured his eyelids closed to help the graft stay in and to help protect his eye.

The morning of July 4, Jackpot scratched his sutures out, which is why in that image the eyelids are quite distracting. If you look at the ulcer though, you can already see amazing progress in just a week. Because he scratched the sutures out, Dr. Hood opted to change to stem cell drops (also from AniCell) instead of attempting to redo a graft for him.

You can tell by the image from last week just how amazingly quick and complete his healing was. In a matter of several weeks, Jackpot is off all medications and has a beautiful cornea with no visual impairments.

Due to the impressive healing and decreased time of treatment, Dr. Hood will almost always recommend a stem cell product of some kind for wounds - on most areas of the body, even the eye!

If you've been a client of ours, or even following us for awhile, you know how much Dr. Hood is obsessed with amnion. She uses it in all kinds of wounds and in some lamenesses with great success. Obviously, her success is due to her fantastic case selection, but between that and the way she manages wound cases, these products just do amazing things in her hands.

Our most recent case: Dr. Hood's own Max. Ja literally watched Max pull his leg through a fence, so they got to it as soon as it happened. They cleaned the area, added an amnion graft into the wound bed, closed the wound, and wrapped it.

The original injury was Tuesday, the bandage change and these pictures are from Saturday. 🤯🤯🤯🤯

After the bandage change, Max did get a typical foot cast to help stabilize the repair and help with healing!

We'll be posting updates periodically to show you how well heel bulb lacerations (which historically can be gnarly and hard to heel wounds) can heal with the help of some AniCell Biotech, LLC amnion grafts!
