Please help if you can! 😻

We could use your help! Right now we have close to 100 cats in the shelter. It takes a ton of food and litter to care for all of them.
We need non-clumping litter, pellet litter and cat food. If you have the means, could you pick up a bag next time you are at the store and drop it by the shelter. You can also order online and have it delivered right to us at 3101 E. Stone Dr, Kingsport, TN 37660. See image for the type of food we like to feed. Staying consistent helps with food allergies and tummy upset. We are also including examples of the litter that we use.

And remember—EVERYONE who made the effort to support us by posting photos of their ornaments gets a thank you gift. Pick them up during our meet and greets next week at Cornucopia (message us if you can’t make one of those). And if you want to keep your ornaments, you can take them off our tree anytime between now and Tuesday, January 7 at 6pm. LAST CHANCE FOR ORNAMENT PHOTOS!
If you sent us a pic of your kitty, don’t forget to take a photo with your ornament on our tree in Centennial Park and tag us for a chance to win Boops & Beans merch! We will draw three top prize winners, who will get a canvas tote stuffed with a sticker, lip balm, pen, T-shirt and mug. And EVERYONE else who participated will receive a recycled tote with a sticker, lip balm, and pen. Pick them up during our meet and greets next week at Cornucopia (message us if you can’t make one of those). Post by noon this Sunday, January 5, and we will announce winners that evening. If you want to keep your ornament, you can take it off our tree anytime between January 5 at noon and January 7 at 6pm. We will collect the remaining ornaments after Tuesday’s meet and greet, and you can pick them up at Friday or Saturday’s meet and greets. Good luck! 😻

VOLUNTEER IN THE NEW YEAR!

WARNING—LONG POST! We’ve gotten LOTS of messages about staff and volunteer opportunities. We’ll post about staff needs when we have a better idea of those. But we know we’ll need volunteers to help with the care of cats being fostered at the café on behalf of our non-profit shelter and rescue partners. You’ll need at least 5 hours at a shelter or rescue before volunteering at the café. We believe it’s important to experience the environment the kitties come from. And we know our friends at Petworks Animal Services can use some volunteers now. So, April will be hosting cat volunteer orientations at Petworks on Sunday, January 12 from 10am-11:30am, Wednesday, January 15 from 10am-11:30am, and we just added Saturday, January 18 from 3:30pm-5pm! If you can’t make one of those, then message us, and we’ll do our best to work something out.

LET US BE VERY CLEAR: Cafe volunteers will NOT spend their entire shift playing with cats—our customers will give them plenty of attention. Cat health and safety are top priorities, and volunteers will help us provide a safe, clean, and pleasant experience in the lounge to reach our goal of adopting shelter and rescue cats. Volunteers may assist with these tasks: cleaning, sanitizing, and following disease prevention protocols; monitoring cat behavior and health, identifying concerns, and reporting them to staff; basic grooming; monitoring customers to make sure they comply with lounge rules to keep the cats safe and happy; educating about the importance of spay/neuter; and facilitating good adoption matches.

We will have a volunteer orientation at the cafe 2-3 weeks before opening. If you’ve completed your shelter / rescue hours by then, you will be invited to participate. Volunteers will be given a T-shirt to wear on shifts, along with a pin identifying them as a volunteer, and will be asked to commit to at least two shifts per month. Shifts will be 2 hours, and volunteers may pick one drink and one snack per shift. For every 10 hours, volunteers will get a one-hour lounge visit coupon that can be used for anyone. For every 50 hours, volunteers get a $50 credit towards a cafe merchandise purchase.

MEET & GREET UPDATE!
It’s going to be COLD next week, so we’ve decided to move our events indoors. And we’re super excited to host them in the party space of our future nextdoor neighbor—Cornucopia! We just love their popcorn and fudge. So, come meet us next week and check out another downtown small business while you’re there, too! 😻😻😻

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We are so excited to bring a cat cafe to Kingsport in 2025. We’re working on so many things and look forward to meeting some of you next week at our meet and greets to learn what you think about our ideas and maybe even give us some new ones. In the meantime, we hope you like this first piece of art we made for our space. With 15-foot ceilings, this one is a monster at 4ft x 4ft. But it carries an important message—we hope to be doing lots of rescuing in the New Year! 😻😻😻

Petworks is hiring a licensed veterinarian technician. The vet tech will work with our supervising veterinarian to ensure that the more than 200 pets in the shelter are receiving proper medical care. We would prefer someone with animal shelter experience, but that is not a requirement. This position is listed as full-time.
