My name is Ben Reardon, and I’m from the outskirts of a little town in Williamsburg County, SC known as Kingstree… I started woodworking about 5 years ago as a way to relieve stress and never entertained the thought of the outlet ever going this far… In the 5 years sinc
e starting this new found passion, I have experimented with all types of woodworking methods and projects… I have since realized that woodworking is truly an art form and that every piece of wood has an inner beauty and purpose just waiting to come out with the help of creative hands…. The name of my future business “Black River Woodie” is derived from several things. The Black River that I have spent most of my life hunting in... My passion for hunting wood ducks... My families Labrador “Woodie”… All these things combined with the passion for the art of woodworking formed the name… The custom artwork and design is also a creation of mine… I still enjoy drawing all my artwork for my wood burning projects…
The majority of the woods used in my projects are either collected from a scrap pile waiting to be burnt, a sawmill salvage pile or I just go out and cut it myself… I do this in search of wood that is full of character derived from the imperfections that Mother Nature added… During the creation of a woodworking piece I like to leave natural imperfections as well as add a few of my own to resemble age and prior use of the piece… To me this makes the piece a true one of a kind and personal work of art… Only problem is that I tend to get attached to the piece and hate to part with it... Haha!! I guess I just have a thing for the old rustic look and feel of wood… Keep the design simple and let the Mother Nature do the talking…. I hope you enjoy viewing my woodworking pieces as much as I do creating them and please feel free to ask any questions you may have concerning any piece…. I have not officially started the business as of yet, but I am taking orders and requests….
