As of 4 p.m. on September 9, 2025, Public Health – Seattle & King County is recommending that people and pets stay out of the water at the swimming areas of both Houghton Park and Juanita Beach Park for at least one week due to elevated bacteria levels. Signs will be positioned to indicate that people and pets should stay out of the water. The rest of the parks remains open.

Water quality staff from the King County Water and Land Resources Division tested the water recently and found that the levels of bacteria at these beaches exceeded safe thresholds for bacteria based on the samples collected. King County crews will return to the beaches next week to collect further samples.

(AKC image, Shiba Inu) this is not the actual dog, but of course I had to stop everything and rescue a Shiba Inu that was running down the road that almost got hit by a car. This was in Lynnwood around 200 SW. and 48th. Two or three other cars were also trying to corral the dog. Unfortunately, they kept chasing the dog which never works. He was getting more and more scared. We managed to corner the dog into the fenced backyard of a man who also came out to try to help. I keep cordage with a loop and a spare dog collar in my van because I have lost track of how many stray dogs I have brought to the authorities. Somewhere along the line, after trying to direct all of these people, all, but the homeowner disappeared, because I was able to lasso the dog, and also switch to a leash that I dug out of my pet first aid kit. So it probably took 20 minutes of baby talk and slow movements to get the dog in custody and into my van. I took it to the nearest vet which was the Veterinary Emergency Group where they scanned the dog for a chip. He had one! They had me fill out a release form, and they took him in saying that they would have the Everett animal shelter take over. I went back after my appointment to check on the progress, and apparently scanning the chip automatically notified the owner, so before the vet tech had a chance to enter in all of the information online to find out who the owner was, the owner showed up at the clinic! They said this was the fastest rescue turnaround they had ever seen… About 10 minutes! The owners were very happy and in tears to get their dog back. So please take this as a reminder to get your pets chipped if you haven't done so yet! And if you have an opportunity to help a stray pet, please do so. What goes around comes around.

Three! 3 River Otters. Ah, ah, ah! Too far away to see clearly with my phone, but this is on the Sammamish river by Bothell City Park where I walk while I'm in the Juanita/Kenmore area.

Very unusual for Venus and Bella to be this close. I have three cats here, and they all sort of keep their distance from each other, especially Venus and Chanel. This is normally Venus's chair, but Bella stood her ground, with a little trepidation. I told them they were both being good girls.

Video in the comments. One of the very odd duties of a Catsitter, is paying attention to what's going on around the house. I heard some critter, digging, chewing, whatever under the floorboards in the kitchen. I looked outside, didn't see anything. Then I heard it in another part of the house, and went outside and looked at the vent, and there is a bunny! Trapped under the house. So I got permission from the owner to cut open the screen, and wait for the bunny to get out. He finally figured it out about a half an hour later. Then I went around the edge of the house to figure out where he got in, and there is a big hole under the front porch. I covered it with a 3 ft.³ bag of dirt… Weighing about 200 pounds I think? I believe it. that was awkward.
