Our primary mission will focus on providing life-changing service dogs for children with Autism and veterans, creating opportunities for independence, connection, and improved quality of life.

To bring this vision to life, we are looking for passionate individuals to join our Board of Directors!

💼 What’s Involved as a Board Member?

🐾 Spending Quality Time Together is Essential! 🏞️🏡

Building a strong bond with your dog goes beyond training—spending quality time together is key. Here are some activities you can enjoy with your furry friend, whether you’re out exploring or relaxing at home:

Hiking Adventures: Take your dog on a hike. Exploring nature together not only provides great exercise but also strengthens your bond through shared experiences. Make sure to choose dog-friendly trails and bring plenty of water.

Beach Days: If you live near a beach, spend a day by the water. Many dogs love running in the sand and splashing in the waves. It’s a fun way to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors.

Play Fetch: A classic game of fetch is always a hit. Whether in your backyard or at a local park, this activity is great for burning off energy and practicing recall.

Training Games: Incorporate training into playtime with games like hide and seek. Hide treats or toys and let your dog find them, stimulating their mind and reinforcing training commands.

Let’s explore our dog training terminology.

𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
When teaching a new behavior to your dog, it is best to break it down into what we call the 3 Ds. This helps your dog understand that maintaining a behavior until released regardless of what is going on around them is rewarding. It also allows for more positive reinforcement during the acquisition stage of learning a new behavior, which is essential for building handler engagement and increasing the likelihood a behavior will be successful in the future!

Training isn’t just about teaching commands—it’s a fantastic way to strengthen your bond with your dog. Even dedicating just 5-10 minutes a day can make a significant difference. Here are some easy training exercises to integrate into your daily routine:

1. Sit and Stay: Practice these basic commands during mealtime. Before giving your dog their food, ask them to sit and stay for a few seconds, gradually increasing the duration.

2. Recall Training: Use recall exercises during playtime. Call your dog to come to you, reward them with a treat or praise when they do, and then let them return to playing.

3. Leash Training: Incorporate short leash training sessions during your daily walks. Teach your dog to walk politely by your side, rewarding them for good behavior.

4. Impulse Control: Use daily interactions to practice impulse control. Ask your dog to wait before going through doors or getting out of the car, rewarding their patience.

Offered Behaviors: What are they? An offered behavior is when your dog naturally performs a behavior without a lure or cue. You capture the behavior by marking and rewarding it, therefore increasing the likelihood your dog offers the behavior in the future! But here is another fun tip: you can create offered behaviors by showing the dog the behavior back to back either via luring or pressure and release, eventually leaving your dog to assume the pattern of performing the behavior again. This guess at what is next, allows you to capture your dog giving you an offered behavior without any prompting! It is a quick and easy way to phase out your luring or pressure prompts, letting you quickly move on to naming the command. Give it a try with your pup! Make sure you use your marker and rewards!

Including children in dog training fosters trust and builds strong relationships, as it ensures consistent behavior and commands. It promotes safety by teaching children to interact with dogs appropriately, preventing accidents.
