Checklist is complete, so it's time for some outdoor training! Here's a peek at our first outdoor session. Jett is easily distracted and pretty reactive while outdoors. We are working on keeping his focus on his handler instead of the people outside with me. We then go to work on some recall and getting rewards for relieving tension on the leash.

Remember, setting up your foundation and expectations indoors is crucial to successful outdoor training. Don't rush the process!

12/29/2022

This is two days of hard work for Jett and he has taken some HUGE steps! You can see the increase in confidence and willingness to work and learn. This little pup is definitely feeling empowered to stand on his own 4 paws rather than cowering in my lap all the time. We still have two more days of work and I can't wait to see him take some more big steps. Great job, Jett!

(Sorry for the video quality! Camera moved just enough to get some really bad lighting 😞)

12/23/2022

My first session with my Holiday client, Jett. This little guy needs to build lots of confidence! We are building a relationship by working through his fearfulness together. He did well in this session and he got a nice long break afterwards. ♥️

Tip: Overworking fearful pups will only make them apprehensive to the training, or reject it entirely. So take it slow!

12/08/2022

It has been a wet, stormy, week, but we finally got a (very short) break in the weather on this fine Thursday. Even though we have not worked on outdoor training all week long, we have set up the expectations so well indoors, that applying them outdoors was a breeze for this little champ!

One of the biggest accomplishments for Oliver is getting off the retractable leash. He has now graduated to a 4ft loose leash!

Pro Tip: Retractable leashes do not encourage proper leash etiquette or walking manners. They are also unsafe and unreliable. If your pup is having a hard time walking on a leash, the first step is to throw away that retractable leash!

12/07/2022

Oliver's pet parents said they want him to be better at down, holding positions, and focusing. We understood the assignment! No matter what I throw at Ollie, he's focused on his task. The cherry on top is that he loves to work and enjoys the challenge! This little guy has come so far. Good boy, Oliver!

12/05/2022

It is a cold, rainy day outside, so we are hanging out indoors. But that doesn't mean we wont get leash-walking work done! Here is Oliver's first go at loose leash walking with 'leave it'. I have some toys, treats, and socks on the ground, in which he is instructed to "leave it". He still gets some sniffs in there, but overall, we had a successful walk, all while staying in jammies! 😉

12/03/2022

In just one week, Oliver has come so far! His confidence has skyrocketed, he has learned the basics, and he is even holding positions. I love seeing him light up when it's time to train, rather than shutting down because of so much uncertainty. Such a fun, spunky, little pup to work with. Good boy, Oliver!

11/30/2022

This is Oliver. We have a lot of work to do between basic commands, house manners, potty training, separation anxiety, lowering the vocals, and lots of confidence building.

Here is one of our confidence building sessions. He used to bark and shake around the kitties, but here he is learning to touch something super scary with the terrifying furballs all around him! Good boy, Oliver!

Who else has a hard time keeping paws off the counters? Seamus is just about counter height so this is a struggle for him at home. The most effective way to fix this is to make the kitchen off-limits. While you can teach an "out" command, this should be an automatic behavior so only corrections and markers should be used. Even when I drop treats in the kitchen, Seamus doesn't cross his boundary. Good job Seamus!

Seamus, the 4 month old Mastiff, started his board and train this week. Definitely the opposite of the high energy aussie that just went home 😅 Slow and steady for this handsome, loveable, 50lb pup!

09/22/2022

I love having a pup with some versatile energy. We have a great time! Bellatrix is going to be an agility legend, just you wait! She has so much fun and it allows her to expell some of her crazy energy.

09/21/2022

Her long line work gets better everyday! 2 days left before she goes home. Bellatrix will keep working hard to impress her hoomans. 🐶

How is your pup's behavior while on a long line with other dogs around?

A very unique part about my board and train program is that it's held in my home. This means that while basic training is worked on daily, so are house manners and behavioral issues. We learn how to stay settled in the home, self entertain during downtime, keep off of furniture, work on not barking, etc. My 2+ week board and trains even get this training around guests. There's so much more to a well rounded pup than just being able to sit and stay, and I strive for well rounded pups in my board and train!

Training is all about balance between work, reward, play, and downtime. Bellatrix has been working hard this week so she has definitely earned some fun play time to start her weekend! Enjoy your days off, pup. Proud of you!

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Happy training! 🐕🐕‍🦺🐾🐶

09/14/2022

High energy breeds require high energy entertainment. So we have started Bellatrix on some fun agility training to give her options for extra curricular activities when she goes home. She is doing great already! Stay tuned for the tunnel video!

Bellatrix, the mini aussie, started her board and train with me this week. Super smart, driven to work, and eager to learn. This is the type of high energy pup I love! Going to be a fun two weeks with this one! ❤️

The skill I focus on the most during my board and trains is impulse control. Without it, your pup has no focus, no interest, and will often do unwanted behaviors like jumping, lunging, or barking.

To test this skill, towards the end of the board and train I perform an "energy test". Here is a video of that test with Aubie.

She is coming directly from the crate. No prior training session, no play time, no free time, no preparation. Just going outside with all of her crazy puppy energy and going straight to work.

This video truly shows how far she has come. You can see her focusing in, quickly correcting any mistakes, and even when she gets extra excited, she is not out of control and doesn't jump on her handler.

I'd say she definitely passed. Super proud of this girl! 👏🏼

Would your pup pass this energy test?

08/24/2022

Having some fun with "place", "come" and "break"! Aubie gets so excited to work. I love her enthusiasm. She can send to place from more than 8ft now, where she will patiently wait until called. Good job, Aubie!

08/23/2022

Louie is almost done with his board & train program and he is really showing off his skills. He was really struggling with focus, patience, and impulse control, but look at him now! No matter the distraction, Louie is handling it like a champ! These videos show off a down and leave it with all kinds of distractions, including dropped food! Rock on Louie!

08/19/2022

Louie is working hard on staying focused on his handler. He has a pretty intense case of puppy ADD. 😅 He is doing so well with his recall work and bubble training, as well as not jumping! Hooray Louie!!

08/17/2022

This is a long video, but it showcases how to work on as much training as possible during a session.

This is our FIRST long line session outdoors and Aubie did beautifully! Really showcasing her hard work from her board and train.

In the beginning of the video you can see Aubie staring at some bicycle riders off screen. When she first arrived, she would lunge, bark, and pull towards distractions making recall impossible without dragging her away. Now, even though she is still staring, there was no barking or lunging and I was able to recall her! This is a huge step for her!

She also loves to jump on people constantly, so you can see me enticing her to jump on me. I reward her with praise and treats when she stays on the ground, but turn away and get still when she jumps. As the video goes on, you can see her choosing to stay on the ground, even when enticed.

We also worked on recall. Aubie learned "touch" already, and you see me giving her a target to touch when recalling her. Giving her the focus she needs to recall all the way to me. When she's in my space, she gets love, praise, treats, and even play. This encourages her to want to be in my space and you can see her choosing to stick around longer.

Working on "let's go" intermittently helps start some off leash walking. Which you can see in bits throughout the video.

A productive, successful, and shining 6 minutes for Aubie. Which was only part of her session! Good job Aubie ❤️

08/16/2022

Aubie is working hard on her focus while leash walking. She loves to switch sides and jump, but we are learning some better leash walking behaviors 😉

08/10/2022

Learning to work at the same time is crucial for any pups in a multi-dog household. These guys are catching on quickly! 👏🏼

Took a long vacation but back at it with a duel Bernadoodle board and train!

Say hello to Aubie and Louie! They will be spending the next two weeks learning all about home manners and basic training. Welcome you two!

07/21/2022

Working on door manners! Bolting out of the front door is a thing of the past for Sasha 👏🏼

No ques, no commands. Waiting for the "okay" should be an automatic behavior when the door opens.

Yes Nyla, you can come too 😆

07/21/2022

Solid foundational work is the key to all successful training!

**Sound on!**

07/18/2022

Look at this pup learning how to move her back legs individually! Creating body awareness helps with balance, coordination, and even provides some stretching. These are all things that can help prevent injuries.

Sasha is taking the stairs better, able to get her back legs untangled from her leash by herself, and is less "floppy" when trying to make turns during playtime. Go Sasha!

07/16/2022

Can your pup hold their positions and stay focused on you, even when they spot a kitty? Thanks to my assistants, my students can 😉

07/14/2022

"Touch" is a great command to teach for training, especially for puppies. It helps improve body awareness, focus, gives a fun target for recall, and can decrease puppy biting on your hands. Later, the target to "touch" can be anything! Potty bells, buttons, even walls for parkour stunts!

My Bengal, Jaylin, is helping Link with his confidence is her own special way. Link used to run and cower, but now he is doing much better at performing and holding his commands, even with the chaos.

Learning to work through tough distractions will only help your pup become more confident and focused. 🐕🐈 Go Link!

🎶 Toss a treat to your Bengal, oh valley of plenty🎶

When you see it 😆

I need some input from clients! I want to get together for a group session with the pups. Let's see what kind of session everyone wants to do! I need at least 4 pups. Let's get something on the books!

Saturday or Sunday?

Morning, afternoon, or evening?

Park? Swimming? Home Depot? Other ideas?
