Klaus the Pug

Klaus was an owner surrender in 2020 from East Tn to Harlee's Angels Rescue. Klaus has a rare condition called Pemphigus.

Pemphigus is an autoimmune disorder in which the body's immune system attacks the connections between its own skin cells. Klaus is an adorable 2-year-old pug with Harlee's Angels Rescue Southern Division. Klaus was owner surrendered at the beginning of 2020. The first part of his life was spent bouncing from family member to family member causing him to never have the proper care or treatment for

his Pemphigus. When Klaus arrived at his forever foster family home with Harlee's Angels Rescue, he was scared, the skin felt bumpy with open sores and bleeding. Klaus was extremely uncomfortable and in pain. Through the right medication, food, and most of all love and trust, Klaus's skin and heart have healed. Today Klaus is a happy boy who loves his forever foster family. In order to keep Klaus healthy, he takes monthly prescription medication for life and eats Natural Balance Venison food. Sweet Klaus had been doing well, however as you can see in the pictures he’s had a flare up.

He will need to see his vet, Karns this week to get medication and relief!

Hi everyone. This is Klaus' long-term foster mommy Vicki. As you may know, Klaus has an autoimmune disorder that causes his skin to break out into sores on his entire body when he has an attack. Currently, he is in desperate need of atopica, which he was on for several years before his skin cleared up. I took him off of it slowly a few years ago. He was thriving on a special diet of only salmon-and-sweet potato-based food. For reasons unknown to me, he has had a severe breakout over the past few months. The vet I saw in June (same long-trusted clinic, different doctor) didn't want to prescribed atopica, but wanted to go a different route of prednisone and (expensive) medicated shampoo. The shampoo has helped dry out some of the sores, but the antibiotics did nothing. So now he's miserable. Klaus needs some love sent his way. If you would like to contribute to his medical care, I will post the bills once I get another appointment for him. They were booked all day today or I would already have meds. The pictures don't show the bumps that are underneath this fur, but they are literally all over his neck, chest, back, and legs. Poor baby has stubby short legs and can't scratch most of his body, which is good because he can't scratch them raw. But bad because he's miserable. But you can see the patch on his face, which that alone is pitiful. Help a puggy boy out if you can. He will be so very appreciative. He needs to be the happy boy he was again.

Dogs with a grass allergy will have many different signs that are difficult to diagnose. The scratching and inflammation may be mistaken for fleas, dry skin, or chronic dermatitis when it is actually the grass that your dog is allergic to.

Klaus the Pug has had a lot of people who love him and several who have helped out with his monthly medical bills. They aren't small. I want to say a special thank you to Melissa Edwards, who reached out to us almost a year ago to see if we could help this sick baby boy. She has consistently donated to his care and checks on him often. Surrendering is never easy, but she has never let go of her love for him. Thank you, Melissa.
