I have shared so many posts like this. I try to educate as many people as I can. As someone who deals with pet only people on a daily basis, I can say that the average person, and the majority of the pet buying public are swayed by the very professional websites and marketing terms. For example, "full panel genetic testing done on parents & puppies", that backyard breeders and puppy miller's put up. Most have no idea that you should not pay for a dog with a credit card on a random website. It is the norm these days. Not only are they doing that, they are picking their future puppy from a picture and having it sent to them sight unseen. Many of them buy off of websites that falsely advertise Mexican street dogs or the meat dogs from Asia. I live in a very small Northeastern Oregon town and know many, many owners with dogs from each of these scenarios. Somehow, some way there needs to be clarity between b******* and reality. I am clueless on how to do that on a large scale.🤷‍♀️🐾✌️

Why Choosing a Breeder Who Shows Their Dogs Matters, Even for Pet Owners

When selecting a breeder, you might wonder why it’s recommended to choose one who shows their dogs, even if you have no intention of participating in dog shows yourself. Does this focus on show standards seem excessive or elitist? It’s not, and here’s why.

Dog shows are more than just competitions; they serve as a rigorous evaluation process where dogs are assessed against the breed standard. This standard includes several critical elements:

• Soundness: This refers to a dog’s overall physical and mental health, ensuring all organs and faculties are functioning harmoniously.
• Type: Breed type encompasses not just appearance but also character, bone structure, temperament, and movement, reflecting the essence of the breed.
• Gait: The quality of a dog’s movement is assessed to ensure ease and freedom from structural issues.
• Temperament: This measures a dog’s general attitude towards people and other animals, an essential trait for a well-rounded companion.

So why does this matter to you as a prospective pet owner? If you chose a Poodle, you likely did so because of their renowned qualities: their gentle nature, compatibility with children and other animals, and their ability to make exceptional therapy dogs. Good breeders strive to uphold these positive characteristics through their commitment to breed standards.

While not every puppy from a show-quality litter will be destined for the show ring, all will benefit from the breeder’s dedication to preserving the breed’s positive traits. Puppies that are not suited for the show ring but are well-bred still embody the breed’s essential qualities, making them excellent family pets.

Choosing a breeder who shows their dogs is not about snobbery or elitism; it’s about ensuring that you get a puppy who will grow into a well-rounded, healthy companion that exemplifies the breed you fell in love with. It’s about the breeder’s commitment to preserving the breed’s best traits and ensuring every puppy, regardless of its future in the show ring, starts life with the best possible foundation.

In essence, selecting a breeder who shows their dogs is a way to ensure that your future puppy will be a healthy, well-adjusted member of your family. It’s a reflection of love and respect for the breed, ensuring that all puppies have the opportunity to thrive and bring joy into their new homes.

This very sad news came across my feed this morning.
If you think this toxic antibiotic given to cattle, sheep, goats and poultry, that is FATAL to horses and dogs isn't ending up in your pet feed, you are very mistaken. Ultra processed pet foods,(feed) AKA dry food or kibble, uses rendered animals that died other than by slaughter. In other words, they weren't clean animals intended for food. And obviously the animals given this poison are ending up in our food chain as well as our pets food chain.🤬
Do you still want to feed your beloved pets dry or canned pet foods??
These poor, poor horses‼️💔🥵

Beutler & Son Rodeo Company have lost over 40 horses used in their rodeo stock contracting business after feed containing monensin was mistakenly used.

𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲

The ability of any animal’s body to ignore foreign matter is called oral tolerance. As the puppy’s immune system matures, it learns what proteins are tolerable and which require attack.

The mature gut has a protective mucosal barrier that is only one cell thick and not always a perfect barrier, so proteins from the food can sometimes slip through. The gut’s immune system ignores the proteins it learned to tolerate and reacts, sometimes very aggressively, to destroy the other foreign proteins with antibodies, white blood cells and inflammatory chemicals like histamine.

Food allergy is an example of this aggressive response and when allergies develop against previously tolerated proteins, oral tolerance is lost. When this occurs, the general recommendation is to change the dog’s diet to a recipe that contains only a single meat source, one that the dog has not shown an allergic reaction to.

Moral of the story: Don't feed every protein you can find because you might need at least one backup option later on.
Class dismissed 😆

If your dog has been prescribed this very scary drug, please get them off of it ASAP! You need to find the cause of your pets itching discomfort or sensitivity. You are masking the symptoms with this drug and suppressing the immune system which causes a whole host of other issues including cancer. Let's look at what you're feeding and your dogs gut health first and foremost‼️🐾🤷‍♀️

DOES APOQUEL AGGRAVATE CANCERS? THE WEBSITE SAYS SO...
Did you enjoy last night's RPM on tick adherence, times to bite and time to transmission of various infections?! I certainly did, particularly the stuff on chemical spot-ons.

My God, the level of side effects (more likely than not, that statement alone...) and the fact that those side effects are never, ever discussed with the pet owners in clinic is truly worrying.

Dr Victoria was great. Soon, it's hoped, we'll get her back to talk about Apoquel, based on something she casually said in Patreon (the extra 15-20mins we do for folk that donate to the show).

Here's the low down - our T cells are a vital component of our immune system. They attack pathogens and constantly scrutinize and destroy tumour cells.

Very handy, we're all agreed.

Apoquel, for inflamed dogs, works by reducing their T-cell response.

And it does work to relieve itch, no doubt. The problem we this side of the fence (folk with questions) have is that, aside product safety, what is the CAUSE of that itch. As conventional vets never seem to realise it's usually kibble / gut / gut flora / yeast related, the worry is that this powerful drug becomes a FIRST response as opposed to a last.

Because there are obviously side effects to immune suppression.

By decreasing your pets system's ability to neutralise cancer, many vets, specifically dermatologists, are concerned by the increasing levels of cancers they have observed in animals on the drug, that Apoquel (and drugs like it) may be fuelling this cancer growth (just may not necessarily INITIATE it).

Side effects listed on the product insert include "vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, anorexia, dermal masses (unspecified), decreased leukocytes, decreased globulins, and increased cholesterol and lipase. Low numbers of dogs in the studies developed demodicosis, NEOPLASIA, pneumonia, bloody diarrhoea, skin and ear infections, UTIs, and histiocytomas".

In fact, the Apoquel website states

"Apoquel may increase the chances of developing serious infections, and may cause existing parasitic skin infestations or pre-existing cancers to get worse."

So what do you know about Apoquel and its cousin, Cytopoint, the cruxes of the atopic response by the conventional veterinary sector?

About as much as me I bet. So we'll be scheduling a show on them soon. As ever, any dirt you have, you know where to find me. In the meantime, I went looking for some. Every single vet website that discusses the drug mentions the fact there is a study showing it DOES NOT cause cancer.

This study was produced by Zoetis, the charming multi-billion manufacturer of said medication.

So rest assured!!

That's Zoetis, with 1.4/5 stars on TrustPilot.

That's Zoetis, manufacturers of other drugs like Librela which are currently under investigation for (potentially) causing more harm than good, fuelled by a 2024 article in the Wall Street Journal article titled “What Killed Their Pets? Owners Blame Meds, but Vets Aren’t Sure". The article states "Health regulators in the U.S. and Europe have received thousands of reports of side effects and are currently conducting reviews".

That's Zoetis, currently under investigation by EU antitrust regulators as it (may have) blocked the market launch of a rival pain medicine for dogs, a move that could result in a hefty fine for the U.S. pet products maker.

Sure why wouldn't you trust a little study they produce that supports their main cash cow.

The fact that study is enough for the entire veterinary profession to turn off their radars and keep on recommending this drug, sort of tells you where we are.

🐟 FISH GELATIN, FERMENTED HERRING, FERMENTED COD LIVERS, MANGO 🐟

Fish Gelatin Jiggles are truly a uniquely healing food and a huge aspect of that is how they are made. When discussing holistic health, nutrient analyses and ingredients lists are only part of the story - how component parts are sourced and processed are vital in terms of maintaining product health viability.

All our Gelatin Jiggles are made by a wonderful farmer named Steve right on his property, surrounded by goats, flowers, wild grasses, and various birds. In a raised lean-to, frames are simmered in large stainless steel pots and then cooled before desiccated powdered mango and fermented herring are added. Our bottling facility is literally just up the gravel road - perhaps a two minute walk. This low energy manufacturing integrates the wild and healing polycultures of the farm into every carton of Gelatin Jiggles - healing energy that will never show up on an ingredient panel or in a nutrient analysis.

Solutions for pets, solutions for our planet. Real food synergistic with the land it comes from. Fish Gelatin Jiggles.

Adored Beast Liver Tonic is gentle homeopathic support for the liver as well as the kidneys, pancreas and gallbladder. Can be used long term or seasonally as a detoxification. Always available here at BOB. 🐾❤️

☯️ A healthy liver ensures harmony and balance. The liver is regarded as a blood storage container. It allows the free flow of Qi (vital energy) through the body, controls tendons and ligaments, peripheral nerves, and gut function, and opens to the eyes. By examining these functions, a TCVM practitioner can discover liver disease earlier than may be found with Western examination and lab work. In addition to a complete examination, a TCVM veterinarian will evaluate bloodwork to look for elevated liver enzymes, bilirubin, and bile acids to check for liver imbalance.

CURE FOR LEAKY GUT?
When your pet has crazy GI issues, where no food or treatment seems to work, owners can often suspect leaky gut is at play.

Think of your gut membrane as castle walls. All the baddies are on the outside, in this case, all the digested food mixed with bacteria, some good but some bad, as well all the environmental bits you accidentally ingested, including pollen and chemicals.

The gut membrane's job is to suck nutrition from this mess and leave all the nasty stuff to be ejected from the body.

Imagine how complicated a task that is!

Keeping with the castle analogy, all the top soldiers are just behind those walls protecting the king and queen (the brain and the heart). And they take their job VERY seriously. They make it so everything coming in has to pass over the drawbridge and in the gate. That way they can check each and every entrant in case they're packing something naughty.

Leaky gut, which occurs if you are too long with a GI issue, be it a nasty, unchecked dysbiosis, IBS or IBD, or maybe a chemical insult, where inflammation and damage build to such a point, gaps start appearing in the castle walls.

Now the soldiers inside are freaking out. Baddies start coming in unchecked. But they're no walkover. They now attack and tag any invading protein. If that happens to be a half-digested bit of chicken protein then chicken becomes "a threat". Next time you eat that protein BOOM your body reacts, expelling it as quickly as possible.

This is the development of food INTOLERANCES, not an actual food "allergy", a word we hear bandied around way too much. It's a mechanical issue at the gut lining, mediated by IgA and IgM antibodies (soldiers). True allergy is a genetic issue (although can be induced by vaccines, think peanut allergies in kids), mediated by IgE, the SAS of antibodies. When these guys are active, it's dramatic.

The good news is, fix the physical barrier, cure the leaky gut, and these intolearnces can pass.

But you MUST fix the barrier first.

That's the bit most people don't understand including virtually every single conventional vet who knows virtually nothing of this process nor how to heal it (and hence they keep your dog on chemically preserved kibble which multiple studies show AGGRAVATES the condition).

Some owners try jumping to raw but it doesn't work. That's because the gut AND gut flora (the guys that fix your gut) are is completely shot. You're simply running a Ferrari down a road with potholes. The awesome car will not last (another one of my analogies, I need to TM these)

All you're doing, when you're jumping from this to that, is exposing more proteins to the gaps and building your list of food intolerances.

You need a resolution. The first is to watch my Allergy Course on drconorbrady.com. It's the most popular course I have for a reason as it explains a lot of this to you, as well as highlighting why allergy tests etc DO NOT WORK. And it tells you how to go about healing the gut using diet (via an exclusion diet), some simple herbal additions like BioFunction8 (wait till you see what I have coming soon there...) and maybe some probiotics (but not bacterial).
https://www.drconorbrady.com/resource_redirect/landing_pages/2149820514

It's already 3hrs long that course but I'm currently adding a new bit to the end to highlight how effective FMT is for cases that we can't get right using the above.

Check this study out: they treated human patients with leaky gut syndrome (LGS) with FMT in an attempt to remedy gastrointestinal flora loss "in a simple, inexpensive, permanent and effective way without the need for further treatment".

Doesn't that sound promising?!

Of the 56 patients (25 female, 31 male, avg age 33) FMT had a success rate of 89%.

That is 89% cured. Not just helped.

Based on these results the authors conclude "In leaky gut, FMT should be the gold standard treatment".
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih. gov/pmc/articles/PMC9720094/

Can you imagine how utterly transformative that must have been for those people?

Leaky Gut will destroy you, physically and mentally.

Some background on the above patients:

"Before their diagnosis of leaky gut, 6 patients received radiotherapy and chemotherapy together, and 1 patient received chemotherapy alone. A total of 22 patients had long-term systemic steroid administration, while 38 patients had a history of antibiotic use for 21 days or more, at least once in their lifetime, and 27 patients had a history of intensive industrial food consumption. A total of 14 patients had a history of autoimmune diseases (arthritis, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, psoriasis, polycystic o***y, etc.). There was a history of the need for long-term antihistamine use in 19 patients. Of the patients, 16 reported a history of intensive care treatment, and 10 reported oral stops for seven days or more."

Proper sick people. Was the Leaky Gut the cause or the result?

Who knows. But what I do know is these folk need it fixed stat.

Then there is the behavioural bit:

"Before FNT, 46 patients had a mood disorder. Of the patients, 25 had depression, 3 had major depression, 1 had bipolar affective disorder".

An examination performed 8 weeks later revealed in patients who underwent FMT showed that just 16 patients were still experiencing an ongoing mood disorder.

40 were found to be normal.

9 of the patients had aut ism "and a history of aggression when consuming certain foods" coming into the trial.

Of those "symptoms were found to be in significant remission, aggressiveness disappeared, aut ism symptoms regressed, and who showed positive improvements in dialogue with others and in learning processes" in all 9.

WHAAAAT?

BLLAAAAAASSSSSPPHEMY

But why not? Kids on this spectrum very often have GI issues and just last month a "groundbreaking" bit of research, published in the prestigious journal Nature Neuroscience, found a “definitive association” between temporal changes in gut microbiome composition and observable traits and symptoms of individuals with ASD.

Sounds like what that scientist was trying to tell us 26 years ago but everyone burned him at the stake 🤫

It's almost like there IS an environmental cause to the explosion of this disease in the general population since the 1980s...

FINALLY‼️🐾

07/26/2024

FMT, Faecal Microbial Transplantation, is now the only probiotic I reach for.

This is my first in a series of posts on FMT I'm calling "Eat s**t and live" (that is literally the greatest tag line ever thought of, thank you Moddie Lambert!!!), largely as I'm having so much success with it I need to tell everyone.

Here's the short of it, and as I will highlight at Dr. Judy Morgan's forthcoming conference in Orlando in October, my journey with probiotics is something like a bell-shaped curve - "ooh what are these" at the start, "OH MY GOD THESE ARE AMAZING I'M GOING TO USE THESE EVERYWHERE" at my zenith and now tapering off to occasionally, the more knowledge I accumulate and the better solutions that are presented to me.

While yes, the data still suggests over-the-counter probiotics can and should be used to get you out of hole, in the fact of bad gut upset say, or maybe with antibiotics (though even then the longer term studies are now highlighting a few issues. One is the gut flora struggles to get back to normal when they are deployed, in that it takes it longer to do so).

But on reflection, and somewhat unsurprisingly, the gut biome is complicated. A 1000 different species of bacteria, oodles of yeasts, fungi and untold viruses and bacteriophages (and yes, maybe even a few parasites) all happily living together in an enormous (to them) hustling and bustling city.

Then you come along and move in a small handful of species made in a lab - we didn't want 100 plumbers, we needed 500 electricians, sort of thing.

So the biome is complex. This is where FMT comes in. In essence, they get gut flora from a very healthy dog and stick it in an unhealthy dog and boom the patient recovers.

As always, the method they've been using for 1000s of years works best.

FMT dodges the issues with over-the-counter probiotics. They include ALL the oxygen-loving bacteria (can't make a probiotics for the anaerobes, sadly). So it's all the good guys, a complete reset.

And the studies behind its usage, compared to antibiotics or probiotics, are highly impressive. Patients recover quicker from infection and gut flora returns to normal faster when compared to the other two. Moreover, it offers REAL resolution to patients with IBS, IBD, ulcerative colitis, all those sorts of issues, no joke. Have a Google and you'll find 100's of studies marking very large percentage gains for gut issues when using FMT over standard therapies.

But it's all the other little cool findings. Like you can take gut flora from an anxious mouse and put them in a calm mouse and make him anxious (and vice versa, heads up folk with dogs chronic anxiety), they can take the gut flora from fat mice and put them in skinny mice and they get fat (and vice versa...know a skinny friend?! Just ask them to poo in a cup...) and recently, they discovered that they can take gut flora from Alzheimers humans or mice and put them in mice destined to get the disease and BOOM it kicks (they cut the vagus nerve, linking the gut to the brain in some of the mice who then didn't develop the disease, to prove the link).

In summary, I love the idea of using food / prebiotics to grow the groups you want in there, that's top of my list for sure, not popping in probiotics on the blind. But if I have a dog in real need, just terribly inflamed, chronic IBS/IBD that's been going on ages, I now recommend first trying S.boulardii (a probiotic yeast) to see if that helps rest the gut flora but it's 50/50 if that will work in tricky cases. I'm really saying that to buy time until their Legacy Biome capsules arrive from the US.

The testimonials I'm now getting from some close-to-lost causes are unbelievable, and I'll share them with you and a few of the more exciting studies in future posts.

If you have a dog suffering chronic gut issues or IBD (or chronic skin issues that swabs show you are not yeast-related as, if yeast related, you can fix topical issues with ProPythium quicker and cheaper or, if internal yeast, with bits from the local health shop, see my new "yeast" article on dogsfirst. ie) or a dog suffering chronic anxiety or hard-to-explain fear reactions (IBS), one that you haven't been able to restore with good diet and some natural additions, I urge you to try FMT.

I used to recommend you get the gut flora checked in these dogs but increasingly I recommend they spend that money on the actual treatment, particularly when I'm sure there's a likely dysbiosis fuelling the issue.

See links below to the product I use with 15% discount.

Hope it works. When it does, please let us know.

TONIGHT ON RPM - THE IMPORTANCE OF REARING A PUP RIGHT...AND HOW TO DO IT!

Tonight we'll be squeezing as much information as possible out of Paula from the Natural Rearing Group Natural Rearing Breeder Connection about the epigenetic benefits of rearing a pup right.

Paula Vandervoort is a veteran dog breeder, a trained aromatherapist specializing in animal applications, a trained animal communicator, and the only credentialed natural rearing boxer dog breeder in the world.

For years, Paula suffered from chronic fatigue and pain, arthritis, tendonitis, fibromyalgia, and more. Allopathic medicine sometimes treated the symptoms but could not cure her. Natural means freed her from her illnesses. She has since dedicated her life to learning about holistic healing and helping dog owners achieve animal wellness.

Asides from being highly qualified in any and all of the dark arts that you care to mention specifically here she is an AKC Breeder of Merit. She has bred show, service, and performance Boxers since 1978, so she has a LOT of experience breeding solid pups to share with us...

"As a boxer breeder of five+ decades and founder of Natural Rearing Breeder Connection, our goal is to reach dog and cat breeders to teach them the value of species-appropriate raw feeding, replacing Big Pharma (antibiotics, chemical wormers, injectable vaccinations) with plant medicines and homeopathics, incorporating early development protocols, improving microbiomes in the first 8-10 weeks of life, and using the Laws of Nature in all aspects of their breeding programs.”

We will be touching on:

🐾 What is natural rearing and why does it matter?

🐾 How does a dog or cat breeder incorporate natural rearing into their breeding programs?

🐾 How does feeding a pregnant mom differ from feeding a pet who is not pregnant?

🐾 Weaning to raw vs weaning to kibble

🐾 How to protect puppies from disease

🐾 And what is “dark whelping”?! I honestly don't know and am trying not to Google until I find out later...

And I'm back which I'm sure will be a massive relief to you all. I can only imagine the sensory torment of both looking at and listening to Bren and Nick all night without my witty interjections.

That's tonight on RPM, 7pm BST, over on the RPM page, Youtube or anywhere you get your pocast (and while you're in there, don't forget to give us a review, ideally an extremely positive one).
