Yall know what this means! Our first harvest of honeysuckle this year! We have so much growing and so much about to bloom that we will be restocked with floral teas and honeysuckle syrup and jelly in the coming weeks!!

PS. I realize this doesn't look like much but this harvest is in a 2 gallon bowl. This is just under a quart of honeysuckle 💛

A great homemade rehydration drink is infused water. We use filtered water, cucumbers and any herbs and fruit we might have on hand. Today it's made with cucumbers, lemon balm and blackberries. Cucumbers are incredibly hydrating, lemon balm (also known as Melissa), has relaxing properties, plus A LOT of health boosting benefits, and blackberries are delicious, plus have antioxidant properties and lots of nutrients. Do you make hydration drinks?

Pete. S. We got these adorable little reusable glass bottles off of amazon. I think they're 8 oz. We use them for water, because we like our water cold, and also easy to grab single serving tea or lavender lemonade for the family. It just makes it easy to grab and go when we're running out the door. I'll try to find the link and stick it in the comments later.

Lots of fruit trees and canes are flowering on the farm. We have pears, mulberries and wild blackberries (dewberries) in bloom right now. We are watching the blueberries, cultivated blackberries, honeysuckle and wild grapes (wild muscadine) for signs. Will update ❤

I brought our flock a nice snack and picked up the eggs this morning. The coop definitely needs some work, but it is secure and our flock is safe so for now...

Have you considered that meal prep is a form of self care? I know we normally think of bubble bath or skin care routines when we think of self-care, but in my opinion the ultimate self care is making sure that your body is nourished, that you get adequate rest, and adequate hydration, and that you have safe and loving people in your life.

So, along those lines, I try to spend part of at least one day each week prepping meals for the week. This is an egg salad sandwich with some lovely City Girl's Farm broccoli and red cabbage microgreens. As followers of this page, I don't have to tell you that microgreens are one of the most nutrient dense veggies available and i believe that including them in your meals is an act of self love.

We grow microgreens on the farm for our family, our subscribers, and a few select clients as well as for Lafayette's Hub City Farmer's Market on occasion when time allows. We're teaching a class in a little over a week at Cane Row Nursery and Landscaping on how to grow microgreens at home. Grab a friend and come check it out. Link in the comments.

Imagine answering the question, "What's for dinner?" by grabbing a basket or bowl and walking out to your kitchen garden. As you walk the garden path, notice what is ready to harvest and begin making your plan for a veggie side dish, pasta sauce or salad (you can even use your own homegrown herbs to make a salad dressing!!) This dream could be your reality, and I can teach you how!

For many years, this has been our reality, both in rural settings and in suburban settings. With just a few well planned and well planted raised beds and the knowledge of what to plant, and when, and of course a beautiful bowl or basket, you can replace a daily grocery store salad, side dish, pasta sauce and more with super fresh homegrown produce!

Message the page for more information or click the link in the comments to book your appointment.

Our Story

I grew up around farming. My maternal grandparents and uncle were farmers, my paternal grandfather always had a garden and was always experimenting with plants, and my own parents always had gardens (my dad grew veggies and my mom grew flowers). As a young child, I even grew things. But then, as I got older, I got too busy for that. High school, college, marriage and then full time jobs took up a lot of time and growing things took a back seat to all the other things. And then we started having kids.

Once we started having children, I quickly realized just how broken our food system is. I became fascinated with growing food and with the local food movement. We moved a lot during those early years with our children, so I played a bit with gardens at each of our homes. I learned a lot through trial and error. During this time, we lost my grandparents, and my mother became ill. This convinced me even more of the importance of clean food, Because of Mom’s illness, we decided to move back to Louisiana to be here to help and spend time with family. We were blessed to be able to have some of the land my grandparents farmed, as well as our home in Lafayette. Currently, we have an Urban Farm and are slowly building beds and infrastructure on the farm north of Opelousas which will allow us to grow even more.
