🚨 PLAQUEMINES PARISH HURRICANE IDA UPDATE! 🚨

In the days following Hurricane Ida, the Louisiana SPCA has taken in more than 180 animals. While the normal stray-hold period in Plaquemines Parish is five days from the date of intake, the parish is extending this to 10 days from the date of intake.

Once a stray animal has been held for the 10-day stray-hold window the Louisiana SPCA becomes the legal owner and can determine the best placement option for that animal, including adoption. All animals taken in since Hurricane Ida can be viewed at www.louisianaspca.org/strays.

If you see your pet on the Louisiana SPCA’s website, here’s what you should do.
🐾 Immediately fill out a lost report at www.louisianaspca.org/lost. If you are unable to fill out the report yourself, call 504.934.6931 for assistance.
🐾 Once the report is received, someone from the Louisiana SPCA will contact you within 24-hours to set an appointment to reclaim your pet.

The animal assistance efforts in Plaquemines Parish are well underway and the Plaquemines Parish Government has activated two national groups to assist the parish run animal control: The ASPCA and ifaw. The Louisiana SPCA is aiding in these efforts by providing pet food to be distributed to residents and pets being fed-in-place. For animal emergencies please call Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office at 911 so they can dispatch an officer. For questions call the Louisiana SPCA at 504.368.5191.

At this time the Louisiana SPCA is asking the public to consider making donations of pet food to support the recovery efforts. Unopened bags of pet food can be dropped off at the Louisiana SPCA's Plaquemines Parish Campus. If you can't physically bring a donation, please feel free to make your donation here and those funds can be used to do things like help buy pet food and litter.

this email you will find the following information:
β€’ Renewal Dates & Fees
β€’ Current Registration Details
β€’ Continuing Education Information
β€’ Instructions on Logging into new LBVM License Portal
β€’ Instructions on Recording Continuing Education Activity
β€’ ’21-’22 Renewal Instructions

Renewal Dates & Fees

All CAET Certificates issued to Animal Euthanasia Technicians expire annually on OCTOBER 1st. The annual renewal and re-registration of Louisiana certificates occurs during the regular renewal period of July 1 through September 30. All certificates not properly renewed will be expired on October 1st. Expired certificates can still be renewed after September 30; however, renewing an expired certificate will result in late fees being incurred. If you perform any functions of a CAET in Louisiana with an expired certificate, you are in direct violation of the LA Veterinary Practice Act. Practicing without a certificate is a serious offense for which the Board can take action.

Starting in the '21-'22 renewal cycle, all renewals must be completed through the new LBVM License Portal. Please visit our Renewal Info page at www.lsbvm.org/renewal and carefully read through the details for more information on logging into the LBVM License Portal and completing the new renewal process. Renewal forms will not be mailed via the USPS any longer.

Renewal Fees - The annual renewal fee for CAET Certification is $50. A late renewal fee of $25 will be assessed to all expired certifications that are submitted after September 30.

The LBVM License Portal will be available on June 28th after which time you can log in and start updating your contact and employment details and entering in all of your Continuing Education information; however, the Renewal application will not be available until July 1st, 202

Continuing Education Policies for CAETs - Please visit www.lsbvm.org/ce-policies-caets and carefully read the information related to Continuing Education hours. The Board implemented emergency rules in 2020 and 2021 which, in summary:
1. Allowed all CE to be completed online for last year’s ’20-’21 renewal cycle AND the current ’21-’22 renewal cycle.
2. Extended the deadline by which all CE hours must be completed for last year’s ’20-’21 renewal cycle from June 30, 2020 to June 30, 2021. All CE required for '20-'21 and '21-'22 must be completed and submitted by the '21-'22 renewal cycle deadline of September 3, 2021.)
3. Allows all CE to be completed online for the next year’s ’22-’23 renewal cycle (in the CE Period of July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022).
Due to the pandemic, the Board recognized that fulfilling CE hours was difficult, and as such prumulgated an Emergency Rule in June of 2020 which extended the deadline to report '20-'21 CE hours and also allowed for all required CE hours to be completed online. Our records indicate the following with respect to your reported CE hours for '20-'21:

09/30/2020 Submitted 0 hours of CE for 20/21. Will owe 12 hours by 06/30/2021 (All CE hours owed for last year’s renewal cycle and this year's renewal cycle must be submitted this year.)

We are working on dates for the conference for 2021. At this time it appears that it will be August 9th thru the 13th. We will update our information as it becomes available

Be safe
06/05/2020

Be safe

We are saddened in learning of the line of duty death of ACO Darrian Young who was a young, promising ACO for the Monroe County Sheriff's Animal Control Division. Officer Young's vehicle was struck by another vehicle resulting in her death.

Today is a somber day for the profession as we mourn for the loss of one of our own.

06/03/2020

The LACA board has received notification that due to the Covid-19 restrictions, LSU will not be hosting outside training in the foreseeable future. We are postponing our meeting planned for August but are working to find a way to have CE's for our members to cover the requirements for CAETs. We will update this site as more information is available. Keep safe during this time.

Now at the time where the state is getting back to opening up have any of the shelters been receiving an overwhelming number of surrenders. If so what measures have you put into place to offset the numbers.

Monday is the beginning of Animal Control Appreciation week. Keep in mind that these workers are reporting to work to care for animals and respond to emergencies during this trying time. Take a moment to reflect upon the dedication they have for the tasks they feel obligated to carry out for others. None of them is in this field for the money they do it for the need to make a difference. Thank you for your service
