General information
Blue Collar Bloodstock Agency Finding Thoroughbred horses for owners with not so deep pockets We specialize in researching and locating Thoroughbred horses for new and current owners as well as partnerships with budgets under $100,000.00. Please review our information to see how Blue Collar can help you select the Thoroughbred(s) in your price range at the upcoming Keeneland September Yearing Sale and the October Fasig-Tipton Yearling Sale. Lets face it, most horses that cost millions or even hundreds of thousands of dollars are not hard to find. Royally bred horses by high profile sires out of stakes winning mares with great confirmation can be found at almost every sale. For those with that kind of money there are plenty of people who are willing to point you in the right direction to help you spend your money. That is not what Blue Collar Bloodstock is all about! Blue Collar Bloodstock offers a full range of support and research to help meet the needs that you, as a new or veteran owner, require to make the best possible choice when purchasing a Thoroughbred either at a sale or privately. We will work closely with you using the racing objectives and budgets that you have in mind. Our research and recommendations will be guided by your answers to questions such as; what track surface will you have the most opportunity to race on? Do you want to concentrate on fillies or colts? If you race fillies will you be interested in breeding her once she retires? Upon completion of our research and inspections we will present to you what horses are available that will meet these parameters and still fit your budget. Blue Collar embraces this challenge, to find a horse(s) out of hundreds of prospects that meet your requirements AND fits your budget. Often such horses are overlooked due reasons such as; less than stylish breeding lines, horses offered by smaller or newer consignors or horses by sires that have been shipped overseas or been retired. Some of these horses may have some confirmation or size issues that lowers the interest in them but they have an athletic look about them that catches our eye. We have been successful in finding such horses not just for clients but for ourselves as well. Maybe it’s through their athletic ability or just pure heart but they overcame their shortcomings and have gone on to become successful runners and in some cases stakes horses. Blue Collar Bloodstock is ready to work to try and do the same for you! We want you to be involved in this process as much as you care to be. You are putting your trust in us and it’s your money that is being spent. No matter how involved you wish to be we want you to know that we value this trust. We will work as a team with the same discretion and concern as we would in spending our own money. After all, in the end our reputation and future depends upon your success! Anthony Granitz buys and trains Thoroughbreds to race in Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana and other Mid Western states as well as Florida during the winter months. Anthony’s purse earnings exceed 12 million dollars and he has won over 675 races. It should be noted that many of the horses Anthony trains he bought at auction or privately for his owners. This exemplifies Anthony’s willingness to back up his purchases by training them and shows the trust his owners have in him. Unlike many brokers who buy horses and pass them on to others to train, Anthony is always willing to stand behind any purchase by training them as well. Jim Carfagno has had horses in training with Anthony since 1991. Jim currently has a partnership with John Loven which includes 12 horses of different ages and three brood-mares and races under the name of Captain Jack Racing Stables. Jim does his own sire selections fro breeding their mares. He has successfully researched and recommended breeding selections for other owners as well. Jim makes use of the many tools and information sources available today on breeding and pedigrees. The results of this research is used at the sales to help narrow the search for successful breeding trends. Using this information in conjunction with Anthony’s visual inspection helps create a list of recommendations for closer review. In the case of 2 year olds the breeze videos of those on the list of purchase prospects are again reviewed. Our veterinarian will also review available x-rays and scope reports to check for possible bone or breathing problems. For the clients who are with us at the sale they will have been present through most of this process and our findings are continually discussed with them. Should it not be possible for them to be present a call is made to them to review the findings of our research. Once agreed that a prospect is a candidate to be bought then the horse is x-rayed and scoped again by our veterinarian to make sure no injury has occurred since the last set of x-rays were taken. If all goes well the horse is placed on the final list of choices. Then it’s off to the sales ring where the excitement builds as we await our choices to enter the sales and the bidding to begin.
