It is with great sadness to announce that silver Lining Equestrian is closed for good. Our landlord, the Village of Lake in the Hills has forced us to shut down. Never in my life have I dealt with such horrible, lying, unethical people as I did with the Village employees and representatives. We brought beautiful horses and riding to this community. Kept kids off the streets by providing them with a sport or hobby they thrived in. The people at our barn had become a family and helped one another out in every way they could. The Village of Lake in the Hills doesn't care about all these good things the barn brought to the residents of their town and the surrounding areas. They did to me what they did to all the past tenants since the Village acquired the property, cause me to fail and then get me out. The last plan they had was to build a hotel on that property. They will deny it, but they will wait until everyone forgets about it and the drama dies down and then they will strike and this beautiful historic barn will be gone.

As for me, I was offered an amazing opportunity out of state. I guess good things do sometimes come to people who work extremely hard and have been selfless for a long time. I have put my family and our finances last for way too long. I spent all my time at the barn working and started to miss events and things that happened with my younger daughter. What I dealt with from the Village and the barn in general put massive stress on my health and my marriage. As much as it pained me to leave everyone behind I had to come to the reality that I had to do what was best for me for once.

I'm sorry to those that got hurt during all of this. This is a sad ending for Silver Lining Equestrian but a beautiful new beginning for all the wonderful people that were a part of our barn family. Good luck to everyone.

Last call to sign up for the Spring School Show. I'm cutting off entries at the end of the day this Saturday, May 20th. All levels of riders are welcome. Here's the details:

Sunday, May 28th from 9 am to 3 pm at Silver Lining Equestrian

Cost is $100 per rider which includes schooling (practice session/lesson) the Friday prior to the show and 4 show classes - 2 Hunter and 2 Equitation

For the more advanced riders there will be a Jumper Jackpot. $25 gets you entered and the winner splits the pot with SLE. The more the merrier as the bigger the pot.

We will also be looking for volunteers to help with the following:

Check in riders and hand out numbers
Announce riders in the ring
Pass out ribbons
Assist other riders with grooming, tacking, adjusting stirrups, etc...

Preferred attire for riders are beige breeches/riding pants, riding show shirt or white polo/shirt, boots with half chaps, black helmet, black gloves, white contour saddle pad if riders have all the attire. If not, it's not necessary to go out and buy it.

There is a sign up sheet for both riders and volunteers at the front desk.

Riders, when signing up, please put down two horse choices. We will do our best to match up horses and riders. Volunteers please put down times you are available and what type of jobs you would like to volunteer for.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Let's have some fun!!

I'm feeling nostalgic today. Many of you have heard stories of my previous horses. They were all great and very talented in each of their own ways.

One I'm thinking of right now is Evening Attire "Tuxx". His story starts with me driving by myself to central Illinois in my 1989 Iroc Z Convertible. A farmer's neighbors were trying to help him disperse his horses as he was 80, very sick and losing his farm. We agreed I would just pay for the haul of the gangly gelding with proud flesh on his front leg to the farm where I would board him at. Had I not taken him that week he was going to the slaughter auction.

Hard work and time trained him and he showed how amazingly gorgeous and talented he was. He is the horse that got me to Kentucky and blue ribbons at the Kentucky Horse Park. I played on the Rolex course with him too while there for fun. Years later I sold him to a lady on the east coast and here is a video from when he showed in Upperville at the highlight of his career.

Unfortunately his talent was cut short when he suddenly went blind in both eyes. However his owner chose to build a little farm for him and keep him to live out his days. I miss each one of my past horses tremendously. It's one of the hardest parts about being in this industry.
