A nice video showing subtle signs of thermal stress in a dog. Notice how the dog retrieves the ball, then avoids his handler, seeks shade, then eventually dropped the ball on his own. This is not typical for this very “toy driven” dog. Signs of increasing thermal stress can be very subtle and easy to miss if you’re not watching closely or not familiar with what is normal for that particular dog. No need to panic though, just means it’s time to give the dog a break and let him cool down. Understanding the normal signs of increasing thermal stress, and being in tune with your own dog's level of fitness and conditioning can be instrumental in preventing heat injury!
