Kombucha is a probiotic-rich, fermented tea that supports gut health, boosts immunity, and provides a natural energy lift! Making your own is easy and rewarding. Here’s how to get started:

**Basic Kombucha Recipe:**
🍵 4–6 black or green tea bags
🍯 1 cup sugar (organic preferred)

**Instructions:**
1️⃣ Brew tea, dissolve sugar, and let cool completely.
2️⃣ Pour into a clean glass jar, add starter tea & SCOBY.
3️⃣ Cover with a cloth & rubber band.
4️⃣ Ferment in a warm, dark place (68-78°F) for 7-14 days.

Why not shake things up and craft your very own natural soda pop? It’s a fun, delicious way to sip on something fizzy and fabulous, free from artificial ingredients! Start your fizzy adventure with a homemade ginger bug – the key to creating your naturally fermented soda. Here’s how to get started:

**Ginger Bug Recipe**
Ingredients:
- 2 cups water
- 2 tbsp grated fresh ginger root (with peel)
- 2 tbsp sugar (white or brown)
- Additional ginger and sugar for feeding

**Instructions:**
1. In a clean glass jar, combine the water, grated ginger, and sugar. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.
2. Cover the jar with a cloth or paper towel and secure it with a rubber band.
3. Leave the jar at room temperature. Stir the mixture once a day and add 1 tsp grated ginger and 1 tsp sugar daily for 5-7 days.
4. You'll know it's ready when it becomes bubbly and has a pleasantly fermented aroma. Strain out the ginger pieces and use the liquid as a starter for your soda recipes!

From there, let your creativity fizz! Mix your ginger bug with fruit juices or herbal infusions, bottle it, and let it ferment until it reaches your desired level of carbonation. Cheers to DIY soda that's not only refreshing but also naturally nourishing!

1991greenery Homestead is gearing up for winter sowing native seeds for this year’s garden, and we need your help! I'm looking for clean milk and water jugs to use as mini greenhouses for our native seeds.

What’s Winter Sowing?
It’s an amazing method of planting seeds outdoors during winter in repurposed containers like milk jugs. The seeds stay dormant in the cold, just like they would in nature, and sprout when the weather warms up. It’s eco-friendly, low maintenance, and perfect for growing native plants that thrive in our environment!

If you’d like to help, you can drop off your rinsed milk or water jugs at 1006 Durant St, Lansing, MI. Your contributions will help me create a thriving garden that supports local pollinators and biodiversity!
Thank you for supporting 1991greenery Homestead!

P.S. Thank you to EVERYONE who donated jugs to 1991greenery Homestead last year. It was truly appreciated 💚

The beauty of farming lies in community, collaboration, and the art of trading! This week, I had the pleasure of swapping some of my beloved vermicomposting worms for delicious venison from the amazing folks at

Trading with fellow farmers not only helps us diversify what we bring to our tables but also strengthens our connections and shared purpose. It's a reminder that we're all in this together, supporting each other's growth and sustainability.

Thank you, Dragonfly Downs, for this nourishing exchange. Here's to more partnerships that feed both our farms and our hearts!

12/30/2024

2024 was a year of incredible growth, challenges, and triumphs for 1991greenery Homestead—far more than I could have ever asked for. The journey was filled with opportunities to teach, connect, and cultivate, both in the garden and in life.

I taught numerous workshops, sharing my passion for gardening, vermicomposting, and sustainability with eager learners. A standout moment was leading my very first make-and-take workshop at the Eli Broad Art Museum—a milestone that still fills me with pride.

1991cosmetics was reborn this year as 1991greenery Homestead Apothecary. With this relaunch, I combined my love for herbs and apothecary knowledge to create a natural body product line that reflects the heart of 1991greenery Homestead. It has been fulfilling to see this vision come to life.

Throughout the year, I met countless inspiring souls, all striving toward the same goal of fostering sustainable agriculture. These connections enriched my journey and laid the foundation for future collaborations. I also built strong business relationships that are already shaping the future of 1991greenery.

The garden club I started may be small, but its impact has been mighty. Watching a community grow around a shared love of gardening has been one of my greatest joys.

Of course, the year came with its share of challenges. A skunk and groundhog problem tested my patience, and pest issues—slugs, in particular—kept me on my toes. But these bumps in the road only deepened my connection to the Homestead. I’ve fallen even more in love with what I’ve built here.

There were moments of pure delight, too—like when the basil went absolutely BONKERS, filling the garden with vibrant green abundance. Pollinators flocked to my yard, drawn by the wildflowers and perennials I added, transforming the space into a buzzing haven of life.

One of my biggest achievements this year was getting hired as the associate GardenHouse manager at Hunter Park GardenHouse. This role has been both a challenge and a blessing, allowing me to expand my impact within the community.

Looking back, 2024 was a year of profound growth for 1991greenery Homestead 💚🌿🌱🌲
