Jack's Jitterbugs

Jack's Jitterbugs Jack's Jitterbugs was an idea born out of grief and is named in honor of Jack, a cat who was taken from this world far too young.

Officially founded on June 23, 2011, Jack's Jitterbugs looks forward to eventually being able to both emotionally and financially support pet parents who have pets with special needs. Jack was only five when he was diagnosed with early onset kidney disease - he was born with only one functioning kidney. Instead of giving up, though, I dedicated a good chunk of nearly the next three years to provid

ing Jack with anything he needed to stay comfortable. Jack's hospice care came to a tragic end when his kidney disease took a rapid and unexpectedly severe turn for the worse. He passed away on May 2, 2011, at the young age of eight. Many have told me I did something extraordinary but I did what any pet parent would do. I loved Jack unconditionally - and I still do - and I saw a need for a support group for those who care for animals with special needs especially those who provide hospice care for animals who have a terminal disease like Jack did. Even if I had known how things would end I would do it all over again without hesitation. This group is dedicated to helping fellow pet parents who are going through or have gone through a similar experience.

General information

Jack's Jitterbugs is here for any pet parent who currently has or had a pet with special needs. However, ALL pet owners are welcome here in order to foster a loving and compassionate atmosphere. The original inspiration for Jack's Jitterbugs was the Rumpleteazer Fund at Riverside Cat Hospital in Okemos, Michigan. Feel free to share pictures, poems, stories - whatever - so long as it relates to animals in need. Share your experiences and ask for good thoughts and positive energy for yourself or your pet - it's all good here. Looking for thoughts on animal care? Post it here for feedback. Just looking for someone to talk to when things aren't looking good for your furry friend or you're having a rough night? You've come to the right place. The short-term goal for this group is to provide emotional support for these special pet owners. The long-term goals for this group are to provide that same emotional support but also establish a fund to help pet parents defer their pet's medical expenses. Additionally, I would like to establish a network of pet owners who have had to make the decision to put a pet to sleep that can be contacted by others who are facing that same horrible decision. I want this to eventually morph into a support network for pet parents that would guarantee that no pet parent will have to make that final visit to the vet with their pet alone. The network would provide a person to go with the grieving pet parent and, if needed, provide transportation to and from the vet.
