Update: Owners have been found. At this time they are unable to provide care, so he will be staying with us for a while. Additionally, it has come to light that they gave him Advil and Tylenol for his pain. We are going to be working very hard to save him. Prayers are needed for this boy. Thank you to everyone who helped us find his owners! You all are amazing!

The post we’ve dreaded. The post we’ve never ever had to make. It’s coming. River has been with the rescue for nearly a year now. We’ve never had that happen, not even close. He rarely gets shared when we post him. He’s gotten only a few inquiries over that time. To make it even worse, he was in the shelter for a very long time before that. Now he’s in boarding.

So we present our rescue’s most unwanted dog. We are at a total loss for how to get him seen. His adoption fee is sponsored. He’s had extensive training. He’s energetic for an old man. He’s a little quirky, a little aloof. He needs someone to take a chance on him. This is the most heartbreaking thing to see a discarded dog continue to go unnoticed and unwanted. Please share him. It’s the only way to get him out of boarding. His ideal home would have a big yard as he’s very active for an older guy and loves running around in a yard. He’s been fine with other dogs and sometimes enjoys playing with them, but mostly keeps to himself. Don’t know about cats. No young kids. He’s house trained and leash trained. He is not for a first time dog owner - he can be sassy and displayed some resource guarding, though he has received extensive training and his trainer will work with his new adopter. This is no way for a senior dog to spend his last years. Transport up the east coast from South Florida (West Palm) is available.

We want to take a moment to clarify a few things about Hank’s Bark Box. We are not a business, we are not a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and we do not make or accept any money. Everything we do is made possible by the generous food donations from our incredible community. We operate solely on these contributions, and for that, we are deeply grateful.

Because the food we receive varies all the time, we may not always have the specific food you’re looking for, and for that, we’re truly sorry. We try our best to accommodate as many people as we can, but our resources are limited, and availability depends entirely on what has been donated.

While we sometimes have pet-related items such as leashes, collars, kennels, and similar supplies, these are not things we always have in stock. Please understand that if we don’t have what you need, it’s not intentional or personal. When we do receive these items, we typically post them on Facebook as they become available.

We also want to address communication. While we want to help as much as possible, we are just two people running this from our home. When we receive messages at 1:00 a.m. or during weekends at all hours of the day and night, we aren’t always able to respond right away. We could be eating dinner, taking a shower, away from home, or simply sleeping.

We understand it can be frustrating if we don’t respond immediately, and for that, we apologize. But please remember, we are not a large pet food chain or organization; we’re just two individuals doing the best we can to help our community.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we continue to work hard to make a difference for the pets and families in our community.
