ABOUT GOLDEN CROSS RESCUE

Golden Cross Rescue is a nonprofit organization. Our story had a unique beginning. What started as a simple search for a local meet-up group for our own 6 year-old golden, Cooper, was the beginning of so much more for us. Instead of finding a play group, we found our life’s mission. Along with local rescue groups, we discovered groups from all over the country that exist to rescue internationally from places that do not share our western cultural view of dogs as loving members of our families.

Six years ago, when we were trying to find a golden to make a part of our family, we looked first to local rescue groups, that we might be able to save a life and much to our surprise, there were none available. Goldens are a popular breed and are rarely surrendered. Meanwhile, there are hundreds of them overseas, being bred in slaughterhouses to be killed for their meat, or tossed out in the street because a country deems them to be “unclean” and has implemented sanctions to dissuade or criminalize owning a dog.

There are organizations that are working on the ground in these countries to rescue these animals. We are determined to work with as many of these organizations as possible to save as many of these dogs that we can and connect them with the families that are looking for them here in the U.S.
