People sometimes ask how a dog in our rescue gets along with other dogs. Our friends at Level 3 Canine asked Ellie and Erica to answer that question. More about them is posted below.
Time for a Gabe update... his hard beginning has not slowed him down. Especially true when his bowl gets empty because he ate everything. Happy puppy!
New experiences with Loni show us she is actually VERY social once she gets to know the other dog. Her previous owner allowed another dog to pick on her and she had become defensive and scared of other large dogs. This is video of her interacting with another DRNV Dobe named Rudy. Rudy is a big friendly boy and she seems to be doing just fine. Yes, she is available to join you and your pack. Take a look.
Updating our information on Loni: She is coming out of her shell! Very shy and sometimes defensive towards other dogs because her owner allowed another dog to pick on her, she is rediscovering her roots as a pack animal. This au natural young adult had a chance to hang with a little dog at her trainer's house. And she is even warming up to fellow big guys!
We believe she will do fine with the right other dog(s) as long as they can go slow, stay controlled and give her a chance to gain trust. And, she is a love-bug to all people. She is going to be someone's great companion.
So, you like road trips? You like being social with your dog? You like spending time in the beautiful outdoors around us? If you like those things, you will love Rudy. He is so good his trainer took him along on vacation!
This 3-year-old Blue and Tan Doberman is strikingly handsome and a big friendly guy who will do all those things and more. He came to DRNV when his former owner fell into hard times and lost her home. Forced to move in with relatives, she discovered the resident dog was just not going to accept the addition of Rudy to his realm.
Respectful kids, most dogs and anyone willing to play ball are on his favorites list. Blue Dobermans are not common and many have problems with their costs. Not here. He is even more handsome and striking in person than in his photos.
Ready for some road trips? Rudy is.
Level 3 Canine
Rocky's latest checkup was excellent. In two weeks he gets to stop wearing the cone. His life is so much better. Instead of bumping into things and looking worried about a blurry world, he is happy, walking around puddles and chasing pigeons from the yard!
Dr. Christopher Smith Eye Care for Animals - Las Vegas, NV performed this great service and explained it for us.
Many thanks to Special Needs Dobermans for their support, and thanks to all of you who help by supporting them.
Here's looking at you!
Basic training = basic happiness! DRNV is taking a different approach with young dogs like a 1-year-old named Ace. Working with Michael Carpenter and Level 3 Canine, Ace has come a long way from a boy with NO manners who was terrible on a lead. Look at his progress! Look at what a great dog someone is going to get when they adopt Ace!
We're still looking for someone whose handling skills are up to Kobe standards. Many are attracted to his spectacular looks, but it takes someone with experience and commitment to lead a boy like Kobe. We asked one of the leading trainers of working dogs in the country to help us help potential adopters decide if he's for them. With 40 years of experience, Bill Cassell is a retired police K9 officer, President of the Schutzhund club and consults on training working dogs around the country. He's as direct, straightforward and honest as the dog he's leading. How about you?
