Very important info!

I Don’t feed up my c**ts

And before anyone loses their minds. I’ll tell you why.

We’ve been raising horses for as far back as I can remember. 30 + years

We always fed up our c**ts. Hay , coffee can and half grain , supplements, mineral of all types. They were BIG and Fleshy. And they looked sale ready on a moments notice. And plenty big to start riding as a 2 yr old. Or so we thought.

Couple weeks into training and I was spending more time checking legs , cold wraps , lineaments. Trying to keep them at their best.

When I was about 15 we hauled into our vet. Talking with him about a 4 year old that shattered her leg. The best way to rehab her.

As we’re talking about bones structure, growth plates and overall well built c**ts. He pointed to a pen of big geldings. And said , their 17 and 18. Never been lame a day in their lives. Still ranched on regularly.

He asked me if I knew the difference between those geldings and the 4 year old in the barn. I shrugged my shoulders. I knew he was going to tell me.

He said those geldings never had been fed up a day in their lives. They weren’t given all kinds of grain to be taller , bigger , flesher faster. They just got to grow on their own. At their body’s natural pace. Their bones were stronger , well developed legs . Their body’s held up to years of work.

Unlike the 4 year old that was inside. Casted up. She grew to fast . Bones didn’t have enough density. Muscles that grew to fast to be able to build themselves correctly.

Horse need good forage , mineral and plenty of water. They grow just as big. Look just as nice and last much longer.

To many people kill them with kindness , without realizing it.

His words stuck with me since that day. 

I want to raise c**ts that perform well into their teens and 20’s. And live into their 30’s. Instead of looking at an 8 year old that had to end its career early.

We all like how sound and sturdy a wild horse is. That’s cause no ones running out there feeding them grain and all those goodies to make them big and tall too soon.

So keep that in mind , when you get a c**t from me. Do you want them around for the long haul. Or do you want a pasture pet too soon.
