Spring pastures may look lush, but they can pose a serious risk to your cattle. Grass tetany, a metabolic disorder caused by low magnesium levels, can result in symptoms like loss of muscle control, irritability, and even fatal outcomes. 🌾🐄
The culprit? Cool-season grasses like ryegrass and wheat, especially when rapidly growing or highly fertilized, can be low in magnesium and high in potassium and nitrogen, blocking magnesium absorption. Older and lactating cows are especially vulnerable.
Prevention is key! Feed your herd Purina® Wind and Rain® Storm® Hi-Mag mineral two to three weeks before turnout on lush grass and continue for at least 60 days. This supplement provides the magnesium your cattle need to stay safe and healthy.
