New clients ✨ I sat for a whole houseful of pets this weekend - meet Eago, Clover, Milo (aka We**ie), Tatertot, Cosmo, Violet, and Willow!

If you have a lot of pets with a diverse array of needs, my "Full Day" sit option might be the right choice for you. I do not stay overnight, but I spent about 8-10 hours a day with these cuties! I left for other bookings and a run to the store, but did not leave them for more than a few hours at a time. Our days were filled with playtime, cuddles, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

This type of sit is best booked well ahead of time to ensure I am available & a good fit for your pets.

Community Caseworkers work in our Pet Resource Center and are responsible for all animals entering the shelter whether it be strays, owner surrenders, or animals coming to Lawrence Humane through Animal Control. They also help run our Crisis Pet Retention program and create solutions for pets and their owners so we can help keep more pets and people together in Douglas County!

Medical assistants support our veterinarians and the Clinic Coordinator in operating the clinic effectively by preparing animals for surgery, assisting with daily exams, administering medication, taking x-rays, and more! Apply today at lawrencehumane.org/ourteam 💖

New 💗Adoptable💗 Client! Kona is a very good girl currently being cared for by a loving foster family. She's a sweet senior who loves to cuddle, but still has enough s***k to defend your yard from squirrel invasion.

Kona is looking for a household where she can be the only dog and does have a history of seizures, though her meds have been keeping her stable 🥰 She also did great with me dropping in - no issues letting me enter the house, she listened really well, and was immediately down for snuggles.

Check out all the animals (and their people!) we were able to assist in the month of January through our Crisis Pet Retention program! 🥳

The Crisis Pet Retention (CPR) Program helps pets and people stay together through poverty, houselessness, job loss, and other systemic issues and inequities. This program proactively addresses pet problems that otherwise might result in a pet being neglected, abandoned, or surrendered.

In the last month I have had some fun, funny, scary, and proud moments. In no particular order, here are a few for you to cringe, smile, and laugh at:

- thawed a frozen outdoor spigot at a client's home (unhook your hoses, these suprise freezes in between warm weather will get ya)

- stepped in dog p**p, inside 🤦

- had lovely interactions with strangers who recognize my work shirt "Are you the dog dad? I walk by your sign in my neighborhood every day!"

- taken a dog to the vet for an emergency (last I heard she got the necessary care and is recovering at home)

- had my last regular walk with a 5 day a week pup whose person is ready to go back to walking him herself ❤️ bittersweet 💔

Y'all I had such a lovely day. Here are just some of the pets I got to see. All said and done I visited 7 households with a total of 10 dogs and 1 cat 🥰 My feet hurt & my heart is full.

Policies & practices highlight 👥

Job sharing is seemingly unpopular among professional pet sitters because it can open us up to liability for things done by people we job shared with.

That sucks, and I am planning to meet with a lawyer to get advice on whether I need to add anything to my client paperwork.

AND I think job sharing is lovely, necessary, and sometimes really fun because I have "coworkers"!

I am piecing this together as I go and I so appreciate everyone who is trusting me to do things right, even though I'm new to doing this "professionally". ✨
