Hey DGC VIPs I am going to be out of the shop till the 5th! Have a great Labor day weekend!

08/22/2023

Over the past month and a half, I have lost over 9 4 legged clients. My heart has been pretty sad, but I had one today that broke my heart into a million pieces. I know what it is like to lose a beloved pet, your best little friend in the world, your snuggle buddy. I know what it is like to have to make that awful decision to call your vet and make that appointment. Then you start second guessing yourself and wonder if you are doing the right thing. All these feeling come rushing in, and you think to yourself why do, I have to make that decision. It sucks! It hurts deep into your heart. No one wants to have to make that choice. Everyone is different in how they handle making that decision.

I have a client whose dog has been ill for a while and has been declining over the last 8 months. When she came to the shop this morning I asked where my little buddy was, and she proceeded to tell me he was home laying in the kitchen. I started asking questions why, what is going on with him. He was dying on the kitchen floor. She could not bring herself to take him to the vet to assist with his passing.
My heart sank into my soul.

I had to finish with one of my clients who I had on the table all while contacting my remaining clients and canceling them to go and take this little boy to the vet. It was the longest 45 min. standing there with all my thoughts rushing through my head. Trying not to cry.

I finished and rushed over to get him.
There are no words as to how I found his little body lying on the floor gasping for air and the smell of death or I should say I would rather not describe how I found him. The condition he was in shattered my world. I picked him up put him close to my heart and rushed him to the vet. I spent that time in the car holding him and talking to him nonstop. He knew it was me that had him, holding him and telling him he was the best boy, and he was the best mole catcher, he was handsome, and everything he loved to hear when he came in for his spa days.

They took him in the back to prepare him to leave this world. I panic a little that they would not bring him back to me. I did not want him to be alone. I did not want him to take his last breath without me there, rubbing him and whispering in his ear how much he was loved.
He was gone.

I know it is hard having to make those tough decisions, but it still has to be made. In seeing the condition he was in the decision was made way too late. He was suffering.

Please know I am not putting this out there to judge the owner like I said everyone deals with things differently. It was devastating to the owner.
She could not bring herself to make that decision, so I talked with her and told her I would do this for her and for my little buddy.
I would hold his paw as he left this earth.

If you find yourself unable to be there for your pets last day then I will. I will be there for them. I will hold their paws, rub their ears and whisper to them how much they were loved and how much they will be missed.

I hear people now reading this…oh I could never let my pet pass without me being there, but there are some who just can’t. I don’t judge I just want to be there when it is too hard for others.

Hello DGC!
A while back we met a special gal name Mau Mau. As usual it was love at first site. We only had a short time with this sweet girl before she passed away, but in that short time she touched our hearts. We wanted to do something special in her memory.
Once a month we will go to our local shelter pick up a dog who is waiting for a forever home and give them what we now call the Mau Mau Spa Day. I truly believe she would approve.
Here is a little something from Mau Mau’s mom, telling you about her girl.

Mau Mau had a special effect on everyone who met her. Neighbors on our walks would call her name and say hi (even if I didn’t know their names or who they were), her family adored her, and kids gravitated towards her (though she didn’t care much for having them around-too noisy).

She always knew when someone needed a little extra attention. She would stay up all hours of the night, watching someone who was sick, and she would snuggle up and catch your tears if you were struggling with something difficult. She has helped more than one family member through anxiety and depression. I referred to her as my angel dog sent from heaven.

She loved walks, car rides, running the woods and creeks, camping, and the magic of a snow day always turned her into a romping puppy again. She hated staying up late and would “herd” you toward the bed by bouncing her nose on your leg when she got tired. She hated when dinner was late and would throw tantrums for a week when the time changed backwards.

When Mau turned 10, I wanted to start a bucket list for her. Since then, she’s ridden on a boat, gone to a baseball game, seen the ocean and played on the beach, helped me build a Mau Mau snow sculpture, learned how to open and shut the back door so she could sit out and watch the birds for as long as her heart desired, and so many more small, fun activities. The last thing on her list was to become a legend. Which I knew wasn’t going to be hard.

Mau was the center of our lives for nearly 13 years and my husband, and I were broken when we lost her and felt like we didn’t know how to live a life without her. Knowing how many people loved her and carry on her legacy is truly a blessing and we can’t thank them enough for giving our favorite girl so much love.

Good evening, Doggone Clean.
I have tested positive for covid and will have to shut down my shop for 14 days. Once all is clear, I will let everyone know and start back up making appts. I will go back before opening the shop back up to have another test completed to ensure I am negative. Once we are open, we will require all clients with two legs to wear a mask in the shop.

As people experience spikes in anxiety and stress due to the uncertainties of COVID-19, their pets could be picking up on and emulating their emotions.
