We shared Gemma twice now and she’s still showing as in need. Her email says she needs out by tomorrow 1/17/25. Please network! A foster could save her life!!!

➡️➡️➡️If you can help or have questions, please contact the shelter via info in the post.

➡️➡️➡️From the rescue office:
“I hope this message finds you well. We’re reaching out today with another plea for assistance with a special animal in our care.

This plea is for Gemma, a tan, 3-year-old, 35lb female Pit Bull mix who was found on October 24th in Lawrenceville when a citizen was walking their dogs in their neighborhood. Gemma was wearing a pink service dog vest with a red leash attached and a prong collar tied together with a shoelace. Unfortunately, we currently have no microchip or owner information for Gemma.

Gemma is very friendly, wiggly and ecstatically happy to be with people. Just look at her sweet smile! She is a good girl and desperately needs a home where she can calm down. She knows how to sit, and takes the treats a bit hard/too enthusiastically. Gemma is able to be leashed and handled without any behavioral or aggression. Gemma has received her vaccinations, tested negative for heartworms, but has not yet been spayed or microchipped, but can be before leaving our facility if she is pulled for rescue.

Gemma is in need of specialized care due self-mutilating her legs due to kennel anxiety, to the point where the shelter vet has informed us that humane euthanasia may need to be considered for her if she is not able to get out of the shelter. They have tried medicating Gemma with trazadone and gabapentin and putting a cone on her to prevent her from chewing on her legs, but Gemma keeps managing to get the cone off and continues to chew on her legs and now she has also begun slamming herself into the window and cage door and also bites on the cage door now as well.

In addition to the compassionate care Gemma needs, we’re seeking your help with further diagnostics and rehabilitation to give her the best chance at a comfortable and happy future.

If you’re able to help Gemma, please contact us as soon as possible. Gemma has until close of business Friday, January 17th to find placement or an adopter. If you are unable to pull her directly, any help in spreading the word to other organizations would be invaluable.

“I hope this message finds you well. We’re reaching out today with an urgent plea for assistance with a special animal in our care.

This plea is for Guapo, a 7-year-old, 62lb unaltered male Pit Bull mix who was recently found on Bridgewater Drive in Lilburn, GA on Christmas Day. Unfortunately, we currently have no microchip or owner information for him.

Guapo can be a little timid and nervous when approaching his head from the front, especially if done so too quickly, so it is recommended he not go to a home with any small children or children that are not familiar with how to properly approach a dog. Guapo is affectionate and will see pets and is very interested in his environment, especially when he is outside. Unfortunately, Guapo displays aggressive behavior towards other dogs and will try to fence fight them, which makes him harder to place in a new home.

In addition to the compassionate care Guapo needs, we’re seeking your help with further rehabilitation to give him the best chance at a comfortable and happy future.

If you’re able to help Guapo, please contact us as soon as possible. If you are unable to pull him directly, any help in spreading the word to other organizations and friends would be invaluable.

🏆CHAMP ID 105289🏆

“This plea is for Champ, a 7-year-old neutered male Lab mix.

Champ came to us back in August 2024 after his owner pushed him out of her car and drove off abandoning him in our parking lot. Champ was adopted a month later and came to us again only a few weeks later as a stray and his owner had already adopted another dog and surrendered Champ because she could not have two dogs. Poor Champ sat here until January 6th, when he was adopted. Unfortunately, his adopter returned him the next day because Champ was being barrier reactive going in and coming out of his crate and the adopter was concerned about the safety of their children. We have not witnessed any barrier aggression type behavior in the shelter setting.

Champ has been described as friendly, happy, chill and affectionate by officers and has been a regular in playgroups (push/pull, social). He occasionally gets a little grumbly with the higher energy dogs that don’t respect his boundaries, but quickly drops it and moves on.

If you’re able to help Champ, please contact us as soon as possible. If you are unable to pull him directly, any help in spreading the word to other organizations and friends would be invaluable. Champ has until close of business Monday, January 13th to find rescue.

♦️ACE 107424♦️

“This plea is for Ace, a 4-year-old male, 130lb Bullmastiff who was recently found running loose with another dog at a residence on Rosebud Road in Loganville on December 12th. Although he was microchipped and his owner was contacted, unfortunately, his owner has failed to come reclaim him.

Ace needs specialized care due to his temperament. Although he can be handled and walked without too much trouble, triage was a bit difficult. Officers went slow and offered treats, he did snap at them a few times. Ace has snapped and lunged at several Officers without being provoked as well. It has been determined that, with Ace’s behavior, he cannot be safely adopted out to your average citizen. Ace needs someone experienced in behavior and his breed to help modify his behavior. Ace needs rescue by close of business Monday, January 13th.

In addition to the compassionate care Ace needs, we’re seeking your help with further diagnostics and rehabilitation to give him the best chance at a comfortable and happy future.

BRADLEY (tan- 107498) DOMINO (blk/wht- 107536)

“ I hope this message finds you well. We’re reaching out today with an urgent plea for assistance with a special animal in our care.

This plea is for Bradley and Domino, two canines in our care that have not been able to pass a behavior assessment for rehoming.

Bradley is a two-year-old 47lb brown and white unaltered male Staffy mix that was running loose in Snellville, GA on December 21st. Officers had to place a trap and handle him with a ketch pole to catch Bradley to bring him to the shelter. Bradley is very timid and stiff and whale-eyed with people and has not opened up to anyone regardless of treats, toys, etc. and is shutting down quickly in the shelter setting. Staff was able to triage Bradley and handle him carefully and slowly, but he has not been able to pass a behavior assessment. He needs someone with a lot of love and patience to work with him.

Domino is a black and white unaltered male Pit Bull mix that was impounded and brought to the shelter after he jumped into a citizens car while she was unloading groceries and refused to exit the vehicle. Domino quickly began showing his teeth, barking and guarding the citizens vehicle. The officer had to use a ketch pole to get Domino out of the vehicle. Domino displayed the same aggression and possessiveness once inside the animal control vehicle as well. Domino will allow officers to leash him and pet him, but does not like his legs or paws being touched or hands anywhere over his head. He will quickly stiffen and his body language clearly tells you it’s time to stop. Inside his kennel, Domino will go from being happy to see you and tail wagging to baring his teeth, lunging, barking and jumping at you in seconds. His behavior will flip-flop quickly, sometimes even overlapping and giving very mixed signals. Domino has not been able to pass a behavior test and officers have not been able to triage him.

If you’re able to help Bradley or Domino, please contact us as soon as possible. If you are unable to pull them directly, any help in spreading the word to other organizations would be invaluable. Bradley and Domino have until close of business Wednesday, January 15th to find placement.

“I hope this message finds you well. We’re reaching out today with an urgent plea for assistance with a special animal in our care.

The 5 [Hatti is not longer listed on the website, so may have been placed already] lovely canines listed below need specialized care due to their testing positive for heartworms. All these guys and girls will come spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations, but the best news is that we will treat them for heartworms if a rescue wants to pull them!

In addition to the compassionate care these sweet dogs need, we’re seeking your help with further diagnostics and rehabilitation to give them the best chance at a comfortable and happy future.

🦮Mojo 106248🦮

6 y/o NM Boxer Mix, 64lbs

Mojo is a friendly boy who is curious, chill, and a little timid.

Playgroup notes: Mojo sometimes attends playgroups. He can be selective, social, push/pull, rough/rowdy, vocal. Monitor closely. Mojo teeters on the edge of tipping into assertive behavior.

Mojo came into the shelter October 4th as a stray with no identification.

🏄‍♂️Tilly 106282🏄‍♂️

2 y/o SF American Staffy Mix, 42lbs

Tilly is a very friendly girl often described as a “baby” and a “lap dog”. Tilly knows how to sit and is a regular in playgroups.

Playgroup notes: Social, gently/dainty. Likes to run around and play a little bit.

Tilly came into the shelter as a stray with no ID on October 5th.

🎀ASHLEY🎀
⚠️⚠️LONG TIMER ALERT⚠️⚠️
📍Gwinnett Animal Shelter
📍Lawrenceville, GA

Good news… the shelter is open again for dog adoptions and rescue!
We shared Ashley a few weeks ago after receiving her urgent email. She was hit by a car and had a hard time getting around. We were lucky enough to meet her today and she’s doing so much better. She still has a bit of a gimpy walk and will sometimes lose her footing, but otherwise she seems great! She was frolicking around, greeting other dogs through the fence, getting treats and pets, and even standing on her hind legs to get attention from people passing by.
She’s no longer rescue only and is on the adoption floor. Perhaps with time as she gains more muscle and strength in her hind legs, she could improve more too. The shelter staff could answer your questions on that if you’re interested.
She’s a beautiful girl and a smaller sized pit mix.
Please share this girl to help find her a home or foster!
There’s a video of her from the shelter in the comments too.

Here’s info about her from before:
➡️➡️If you can help or have questions, please contact the shelter via the info in the post.
➡️➡️From the shelter rescue office:

“I hope this email finds you well! This is an urgent medical plea for Ashley, a 1-year-old female Pit Bull mix weighing 52lbs. On

October 28th, Ashley was found injured, bleeding and unable to bear weight on hind legs at an apartment complex appearing to have been struck by a car. She had a pink collar on, but no ID or microchip has been found and no owner has come forward for her.

Vet Notes:

Minor abrasions on face, non-weight bearing in both hindlimbs - sedated with Dexdomitor IM for radiographs - no fractures noted. Dog does have deep pain but drags herself on her hind legs.

QAR, wagging tail and is friendly. Still down in hindlegs, deep pain present but lacks proprioception. When placed in a standing position she will support minimal weight in the hindlegs before falling, feet automatically want to knuckle when placed. When dragging herself on her front legs, she will attempt to pull the left hindleg forward and under her but is not successful. Makes no attempt with the right hind. Panniculus response hard to interpret - there were inconsistent skin twitches in the mid to caudal thorax but definitely lacked response in the lumbar region. Reviewed radiographs again - possible compression of disk space in thoracic vertebra but hard to tell for sure. Given presentation, suspect spinal cord compromise caudal to the front limbs - would need MRI and/or CT for definitive dx. Switch to oral steroids beginning tonight; needs rescue ASAP.

Sweet Miss Ashley’s kennel card and medical history are attached, along with a short video.

If you can find it in your heart to help this scared girl, it would be greatly appreciated! PLEASE reach out to me for more information.

If you can't pull her, PLEASE help us promote her to other rescue organizations you may know.

You can contact me at 678-245-2447 or by email at [email protected] or [email protected]

Thank you so much!”
