🐾 Kicking off the chase-pulling and steadiness training for Raven! 🎯 This stage is a crucial part of developing a reliable hunting dog. During training, we guide our dogs to control their natural chase drive and teach them to remain steady when birds flush, rather than rushing forward.

Starting the steadiness process early helps establish discipline and enhances their performance in the field. This training not only builds trust between the dog and handler but also sharpens the dog’s ability to point and hold position until commanded otherwise.

With consistent practice, these pointers will learn to channel their instincts effectively and become rock-solid partners in the field.

🔹 Training Spotlight: Our apprentice, Josh, is putting in the work as he masters the “whoa” command foundations using different techniques! 🐕💨 In the photos, you’ll see him working with both the whoa post and the buddy pole, essential tools for teaching steadiness in pointing dogs.

Each tool serves a unique purpose:
• The whoa post helps create a clear boundary, reinforcing the command and building a strong, steady hold.
• The buddy pole involves using a pvc pole and used for dogs that may have been over conditioned to recall/heel to stay in position, offering a clear approach to not moving forward to the handler.

Why teach one command in multiple forms? Because every dog learns differently! 🐾 Troubleshooting and using varied techniques ensures that we can find what clicks for each dog, helping to overcome challenges and solidify reliable responses.

🐾 Meet Bodie, a strong and spirited Rottweiler who’s currently with us for our 3-week off-leash training course! 👏 Shae and Raven took 1st Place in Open Puppy, going 2 for 2 on placements! This team is on fire, and now they’re moving up to the Derby stakes. Way to go, Shae and Raven!

🏅 Jeremy and Vita took 2nd Place in Open Derby. Incredible job, Jeremy and Vita!

🥉 Jeremy and Sal earned 3rd Place in Open Puppy with Bianca, the rare and beautiful Bracco Italiano. Not a breed that’s commonly seen in field trials, but they gave it their all and made an impressive showing!

🏆 Liam and Kimber took 1st in Amateur Puppy, with a big thanks to Jason for scouting this powerhouse pup. Kimber is a challenging dog to handle, especially for a new handler, and this win is a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Congrats to all the handlers and their dogs for such amazing results! Here’s to many more wins in the future!

Our girl Raven took 1st place in Open Puppy at just 6 months old, handled beautifully by Shae for her very first time in the field! So proud of this young duo’s performance. 🏆

Vita followed closely, placing 2nd in the Open Derby stake and showing her true potential! 💪

A huge thank you to the PANE club for hosting this event at the John Flaherty Field Trial Area and to the judges, bird planters, and all the club members for a well-run event. It was an honor to compete alongside such talented dogs and handlers.

🎉 What an Incredible Journey! 🎉

We’ve just wrapped up the final day of our first Intermediate Obedience Group Course, and we couldn’t be more proud of the progress our teams made! Over the last 6 weeks, we’ve seen incredible transformations—dogs mastering commands, improving focus, and strengthening their bond with their handlers.
