Let’s talk about matting! Please note this a judgement free zone! 🐕🛁

SO WHAT IS MATTING?
Matting is when a pups fur becomes tangled into dense clumps or knots.

WHAT CAUSES MATTING?
Many different things can lead to matting just some of the most common are not brushing often enough or at all, using the wrong brush for your pup (see the end of the video to see what brush you should use), weeds/mud & if you have kids that like to pet their furry bestie with sticky fingers.

HOW CAN YOU HELP YOUR PUP IF THEIR MATTED?
You can try to brush them out over a couple days with a matte rake only if they aren’t very tight or down to the skin ( we don’t recommend this because most dogs won’t let you brush them out due to the pain), if they are tight or down to the skin you shouldn’t brush them out because it can cause a whole lot of pain for your fur baby. Instead bring them in and have us shave them off and make your pup feel brand new!

HOW CAN YOU PREVENT MATTING?
One of the most important things is to brush your pup at least 3 times a week if not daily, if you are unable to brush them for any reason they should be having more frequent grooming appointments, bring your pup for regular grooming even if you do brush them we recommend every 6-8 to weeks for long haired dogs, use the proper brush to maintain their coat (examples listed at the end of the video) & if would give them baths at home make sure you brush them before the bath as well because if they have knots the water locks them in creating matting.

WHAT THINGS SHOULD YOU AVOID?
Going to long between grooming appointments causing your pup to get overgrown, getting them wet if they are knotted/matted, letting them stay matted for an excessive amount of time, & neglecting to brush them at all
