River is a 1 year sweet boy. He had a very rough start to life so is very guarded. He prefers a quiet home with a woman and other animal friends. He is very mouthy, always giving kisses and chewing on toys. He’ll grab your shirt sleeve or forearm to get you to pay attention and pet him. He’s a very sweet boy that just needs someone who will be patient, gentle and understanding. He's learning his commands and is learning to walk with a gentle lead. There are other dogs in his foster home and he does well. River is neutered, vaccinated and house trained. If you are interested in adopting, send us an application - www.helpinghandsrescue.org/dog-adoption-application - Lewiston.

Meet Freddy aka Fred. Freddy is an almost 5-year-old purebred registered Irish Terrier weighing 58 lbs. A little over a year ago Freddy lost his person very unexpectedly. Freddy protected his human until help arrived a few hours later, the true definition of " Man's Best Friend ". Freddy has a heart of gold and lots of love, with pure loyalty to give to his next person. Freddy's family wanted to keep him, but they are now seeing he deserves the life his human gave him. Someone who will take him with them every day.

A little history of Freddy he is the best traveling or daily vehicle companion. He loves to play ball and be outside. So if you are someone who loves gardening, yard work, being out in a shop, hiking, jogging, or something along those lines. Freddy would be your man just toss his ball a few times during this and his heart would almost explode with enjoyment. Freddy is good with cats, and small children but watch their toys, he likes to play with them just as much. Freddy is good around other dogs, but he does want to be the man of the house, he wants his human's full attention and friendship. He is good with any other animals you may have like horses, goats, cows, etc. Freddy does get extremely sad when he is left home all day. He will pace all day looking for his person. He loves to sleep at your feet. He will sit straight upright for a treat. He walks and runs great on a leash. He would prefer to lay than sit. He will stay but only next to his human. He will follow a butterfly off so you need to watch him so he doesn't try and follow them away from home. Freddy would do great with a retired couple or single person who is home all day or travels. His human was a contractor so Freddy went to job sites every day and on most weekends was off with his human racing motorcycles. Freddy is neutered, vaccinated and house trained. If you are interested in adopting, send us an application - www.helpinghandsrescue.org/dog-adoption-application - Lewiston, ID.

The puppy explosion continues!! This week we took in 17 puppies. Bonnie with 6 border collie puppies born 1/4. Bella and her 4 border collie puppies (this poor girl is 12 years old!) born 12/26. Then there are the 7 Lab/husky/rottie puppies born 12-8. None are yet ready for adoption. It will be a few weeks. We have never seen anything like this constant litter after litter. The only solution is to SPAY AND NEUTER!!

Helping Hands will pay 1/3 of the cost of any spay/neuter at any area vet clinic.

These 2 pups had a difficult start to their lives. They are boxer/Lab/hound mixes born 9/15. Baloo and Rory are sweet boys that just want to be loved and fed! Little Ozzie is an 8 year old poodle/Maltese. He's such a sweet little guy and bonds quickly. Before he came to Helping Hands he was bounced from home to home for some reason. We're looking for one more home for him! We're told he's good with other dogs, not sure about cats. We think small children would scare him. Ozzie is neutered, vaccinated and house trained. If you are interested in adopting, send us an application - www.helpinghandsrescue.org/dog-adoption-application - Lewiston, ID.

📢🙌🐾LCAS is thrilled to welcome our new shelter Medical Director and Veterinarian to the community!🩺🎉

The Lewis Clark Animal Shelter welcomes Dr. Lexi Schlamp, DVM as the New Medical Director and Veterinarian to lead their Low-Cost Spay/Neuter and Vaccine Clinic and care for the shelter animals.

The Lewis Clark Animal Shelter continues to be a dedicated community resource for animal welfare, and is excited toannounce the appointment of Dr. Lexi Schlamp, DVM as the new Medical Director and Veterinarian. Dr. Schlamp, who brings 10 years of experience in animal welfare, will lead the shelter’s low-cost spay/neuter and vaccine clinic, continuing the mission of providing high-quality, affordable care to pets in the Lewis Clark Valley and surrounding community.

As the new Medical Director, Dr. Schlamp will oversee all medical operations at the shelter, including managing the clinic’s daily shelter animal vet care, performing surgeries, and ensuring that each animal receives the best possible care. In addition to her expertise in surgery and preventive care, Dr. Schlamp is passionate about animal welfare and
community outreach, and is committed to making a difference.

“I’m delighted to be the new Medical Director and Veterinarian for Lewis Clark Animal Shelter. My love of animal shelter work dates back to even before vet school. I began working as a veterinary assistant at an animal shelter in Louisiana in 2015 and realized immediately that shelters were the place for me. After veterinary school, that passion
continued and I worked with more shelters in the area.” Dr. Schlamp shared.

“Every shelter I’ve had the pleasure of working with has had one thing in common - a sense of community,” says Dr. Schlamp. “You will never find people who love animals more or give more of themselves to a profession than shelter workers. In that same vein, I’m excited to be able to reopen our doors to the public to offer services like low cost vaccinations and spay/neuter services. While the surgical services will begin in the next few months, our vaccine clinic will reopen shortly. We’re excited to give back to the community that has helped support us.”

“Whether you’re looking to adopt, volunteer, receive vaccine services, or simply learn more about our work, I encourage you to stop by and meet the animals and team behind the animals. We hope to see you soon.” Dr. Lexi
Schlamp.

The shelter’s spay/neuter and vaccine clinic has been instrumental in addressing the region’s pet overpopulation and ensuring that animals remain healthy and protected from preventable diseases. Under Dr. Schlamp’s leadership, the clinic will continue to offer affordable services that support the well-being of pets and the safety of the broader community. Her strong animal welfare background and commitment to animal care make her a perfect fit for the shelter’s mission.

🐾🐈● VACCINE & MICROCHIP ONLY🐩🐾 CLINIC will take place, Friday, January 17, 2025 from 10am to 4pm at the Lewis Clark Animal Shelter.

Blaze (orange) and Ember (calico) are the cutest, 6 month old, bonded brother/sister pair you will ever meet! They love each other dearly and must be adopted together. They are sweet, playful and excellent snugglers. They especially love kneading and nursing on their favorite blanket. They are great with other cats and do well with dogs after an adjustment period. They are spayed/neutered and vaccinated.

01/14/2025

Due to a lack of funding and higher vet prices, we will NOT be able to offer our 50% spay/neuter vouchers this February. February is National Spay/Neuter Month. We were very fortunate to be able to offer these vouchers for the last three years. This saddens us, but it is a business decision. We always offer our 33% vouchers at any time of the year.

After you have an appointment, fill out our form - www.helpinghandsrescue.org/spay-neuter - we send this form to the vet clinic saying what we'll pay. These vouchers are good at any area vet clinic including the Palouse, Orofino, Prairie, Grangeville.
