Happy Spring!

Anyone looking for adult male axolotls?? I have a few holdbacks that could use new homes. I have 1 leucistic and 2 melanoid. Send me a message if you’d like to chat about them.

Also, I have a few unsexed juveniles that I would consider releasing. Mostly leucistic (one albino).

I’m happy to answer questions, provide care information or basic setup advice, and even direct you to other breeders who may have the color types you are after. Hope everyone is well!!

It has been a wonderful weekend getting axolotls to new homes. I love seeing adults and children light up when they take their new axolotls home! There are still melanoids and leucistics left and you can reach out to me any time to ask questions or arrange a pickup.

Anyone like short stories? I recall reading this one many years ago and stumbled upon it again recently. Check it out if you have some time.

Hey, how are you?? Hope all is well.

Just wanted to check in. I have a number of melanoid available. There are only a couple leucistics left. If you’re still interested in getting one, please let me know soon before they eat all my food and prices go up again!

Also, if you have gotten an Axolotl from me in the past, I’d appreciate a review or recommendation. Some new people shy away and have even thought I was a scammer. A few minutes from you can help others find and enjoy these awesome creatures.

Happy Sunday! I got home last night and took a couple quick pics of a couple young axolotls as I was changing water and feeding. I also found my new favorite theory of dinosaur extinction courtesy of Dinosaur World in Cave City, Kentucky 😂

Im lucky to still be able to offer them at $40. This may be the last week or so I can keep them at this price. Remember, these are for local pickup in Lexington, KY.

So, now is the time! Feel free to reach out with any questions. If they are care related and not answered by my previous post on caring for an Axolotl, I’m more than happy to discuss with you.

Hope you are well and thriving. Take care!!

Welcome to all the new people finding my page!

I was feeding some smaller ones and their parents today and just found their personalities coming out in full. One almost back flipped trying to get me to feed it.

Most people who are interested in axolotls usually say the same thing; “They are so neat, but I just don’t know how to keep them.”

Here is some basic care info to help you understand what an Axolotl needs.

Tank size:
20 gallon long for the first adult sized axolotl at least 10 gallons for each additional. Surface area of breeder tanks or long tanks are much better than tall tanks. Axolotls are bottom walkers not swimmers. More area to walk around and find places to hide makes them much happier.

Tank temp:
You must be sure you can keep temps below 70 degrees. Simple solutions to warm water are frozen bottles floating in the tank or small fans blowing at the water causing evaporative cooling. Keep tanks away from windows to avoid spikes during warmer months.

Substrate:
Keep them bare bottom until larger than 6 inches. After this, I suggest either bare bottom, aquarium sand, or natural slate tile that has not been glazed or finished. Simpler is better here.

Tank mates:
Axolotls need a species only tank. You may keep them with other axolotls of similar sizes. If one is much bigger than the other the larger will eat the smaller. Do not house with fish, snails, or algae eaters as they can cause harm to your axolotl.

Decor:
Aquarium safe plants are great, especially floating ones. Axolotls like to hide. Any type of cave you add should be aquarium safe and without sharp edges. Easy ones are terra cotta pots and PVC pipes. Each can be cut and sanded. Multiple hides should exist when housing multiple axolotls.

Lighting:
Lights are stressful for axolotls. They do not have eyelids and are subject to the full force of the lights. Floating plants can help decrease the light pe*******on to the bottom. Else, use bright lights sparingly.

Filtration:
A fully cycled tank is ideal. Unless you are willing to do large water changes daily they will need a cycled tank. Axolotls can be prone to ammonia burns. Beneficial bacteria can help decrease the ammonia content created by axolotls waste. Best filters are sponge filters, tetra whisper filters, and canister filters where the water output can be decreased. I’ve used sprayer bars in the past with great effect.

Food:
Axolotls enjoy a high protein diet. Juveniles require feedings daily while adults can be fed 3-4 times a week. The best foods are live or frozen black worms, live red wrigglers, chopped night crawlers, and soft sinking salmon pellets. It is important to feed correct food smaller than the size of the axolotl’s mouth. Excess food should be removed shortly after feeding. This helps keep the water quality up.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out.
