This was a great masterclass presentation, with a focus on proper riding, building confidence in the horses, and systematically developing a lasting athlete.

Among the demo riders, it was great to see JJ Tate (Team Tate Academy) with Denali, showcasing the classical principles of dressage.

HAND IN HAND 2025 was 2 tremendous clinics, back-to-back.

The word that so many participants and auditors kept using to describe the collaboration was SEAMLESS.

Jim and I knew it was going to work well... but I think it's fair to say that it surpassed our expectations!

Here's some photos from our final day. Everything from the Bladder Meridian to a little piaffe work... We look forward to doing this again!

THAT'S A WRAP! (At least for clinic 1)
Days 2 and 3 of our 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱: 𝗔𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗼𝗱𝘆𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 with Patrick King and Jim Masterson (The Masterson Method, Integrated Equine Performance Bodywork). "Hand in Hand" is a perfect title for this clinic... and everyone in attendance agrees that it was a perfectly matched collaboration to bring out the best in the horses and the humans.

What an amazing 3 days! So many insightful takeaways...

🔑 "Slower. Softer. Wait. Breathe."
⭐️ "The lighter you go, the deeper they feel it."
🤬 "C'mon damnit, RELAX ALREADY!" (Okay, that one was really only said in jest).

Everyone already wants to know when "Part 2" is going to happen... and we will definitely be talking about that!

Speaking of doing it again... tomorrow starts the SECOND Hand in Hand clinic... and we're excited to do it again!

Hand in Hand clinic - Day 1... is a wrap!

We have a fantastic group of horses and people joining Jim and I for this clinic. The collaboration flowed from one topic to another, and from one piece to the next. (I mean - we knew that it would, but our expectations have already been exceeded!). Using the Masterson work to prepare for the in-hand work was a seamless transition... and doing the in-hand work with the "Masterson Mindset" proved to be a perfect fit.

We are looking forward to all the days to come, and if day 1 was any indication... there is a lot more fun and learning to be had!

𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝘁...

Just because a horse that is relaxed on it's own often has a lower head/neck carriage does not mean that lowering the head/neck "on command" will relax the horse.

We need to be careful confusing causation with correlation.

"Your horsemanship should be challenging like chess, not like weight lifting."

Riding and horsemanship isn't about force—it's a game of strategy. More of a mental challenge. Think of it less like weight lifting and more like a game of chess.

Like chess, true horsemanship requires you to think several moves ahead. It's about clarity, timing, and a deep understanding of your partner. Instead of pushing and pulling to get something to happen, you're using your mind and body to influence the horse's mind and body. You're constantly analyzing the horse's balance, energy, and emotional state, and making small, precise adjustments that lead to big results.

It should be a journey of finesse and communication, not strength.
