Dogs like Odin are why I'm doing this and why $5 from every kit sold this month will be donated to this wonderful organization. I had this big plan to promote that the first 12 sold would mean a matching donation in the form of kits to the shelter.....but seeing Odin's face here, I'm excited to say that they're going to get those kits early, before the first one is even sold. It's my hope that giving dogs to do activities like this while they are in a shelter provides meaningful enrichment and relaxation for them, and maybe helps them get adopted a little bit sooner.
October is Pitbull Awareness Month! Pitbulls get a bad rap, but so many are friendly, smart, enthusiastic, and great cuddlers! It's easy to blame a whole breed as being aggressive, stubborn, or destructive, but just like any breed, a dog's behavior has more to do with upbringing, training, and individual personality!
The breed got its start working on farms, and as fighting and guard dogs. Many of those traits that it was bred for are still present today in the form of alert barking, oral fixations (chewing), being territorial, and more. If an individual still displays these traits, when given the proper outlets like going on walks, toys, playtime, doggy friends/socialization or even dog sports, they can be the BEST dogs! But we find a lot of Pits we get are the loving, couch potato types without a mean bone in their body! 🛋 🥔 ❤️
Odin here seems to be the stoic and sweet soul type who doesn't mean any harm and wants to please. He never escalates, loves full body rubs and snuggles, and is very attentive and treat motivated. He wags his tail all the time, and likes to explore the yard! He could definitely use a quiet home and time to decompress from the busy and loud shelter environment. It seems he's dealing with stress by shutting down, and we'd love to find him a home soon so he can blossom! (Did we mention he gets along with other dogs and he's housebroken?!)
